I can honestly say I've never seen a performance from him that I liked. Movies, yes. Performances, no. He's always the weak link, especially in Magnolia where it was really evident that he couldn't act for beans. Though I will admit that he didn't bother me in Risky Business one bit.

I think a lot of people are basing their hatred on Cruise because of his personal life but are attacking his work to back up their feelings.

I've not met him so far in life so I don't know what he's like although he seems fine to me from his interviews, but I do like a lot of his movies. Most are not exactly groundbreaking acting performances but he is king of his domain when it comes to popular culture movies.

I do think he deserved an Oscar for Rain Man however instead of "slow on the drive way" Hoffman.. Born On The 4th July was a great performance too...

These things don't happen in a vacuum. LA is a very tiny place, gossip wise. I heard stories about him within weeks of moving here. On the other hand, I never heard them about other stars of his prominence and age.

What do you expect ? A lisp ? Bleached hair ? A dress ?

For the record, I think he comes across as girly and precious. Not masculine at all.

Money. Success. Power. Fame. What every actor/celebrity wanna be wants. People will stop at almost nothing to get these things.

Every celeb or person of fame goes through odd career stages. I mean come on look at David Bowie, he wasnt the most sane of people, and now everyone loves him.

Bill Tush, also, he is probaly at his house feeding his dog wondering what he could've done dumb and odd to make the public love him still.

All, I am saying is let Tom Cruise do his thing he will be back to normal in four years.

I think he's a good actor and he's great at choosing films too.
I agree that Rain Man is definitely up there as one of his best performances but Hoffman did deserve that Oscar IMO.

I don't know why people think War Of The Worlds will fail. I reckon it's gonna be huge. You can't compare it with Batman Begins really, because with all the comic book adaptations and superhero movies hitting cinemas in the last few years, it was inevitable that people were going to lose interest in them a little eventually.
