I have to take back what I said about Talk To Me probably not being recorded if Mirror Mirror had happened:

Quote:

The song was written by Chas Sandford, who co-wrote John Waite's "Missing You". Sandford also plays most of the instruments on "Talk to Me". The song was brought to the attention of Nicks by producer Jimmy Iovine, "who was always on the hunt for a hit song." Stevie says she didn't like the song at first because she had trouble with the vocals, but Iovine persisted and she eventually recorded it. Jim Keltner was in the studio next door doing some drum overdubs during the recording process. After Nicks explained her dilemma, Keltner gave her some words of encouragement and offered to stay with her and be her audience. Nicks sang the song twice during the session and then it was finished.
And this is interesting as well:

Quote:

Jimmy Iovine was originally brought in to produce the album and worked on the original demo recordings in 1984. However, he parted ways with Nicks midway through the recording sessions, claiming he did not like the direction in which Nicks wanted to take the album. It was later revealed that the two had been in a relationship for several years, and he left production of Rock a Little due to their break-up and Nicks' subsequent relationship with Eagles member Joe Walsh (for whom she penned her much-loved ballad "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You"). Keith Olsen, Rick Nowels and Nicks herself took over production duties after Iovine's departure.

Found this on NickFix, part of a Jim Ladd interview from 1998:

Quote:

Stevie: Okay, the great story that goes along with Reconsider Me is in 1985 when I was doing Rock A Little, Jimmy Iovine brought me this song. Warren Zevon wrote it, and, of course I love Warren because I've known Warren since before Lindsey and I joined Fleetwood Mac. Warren and Waddy were some of our friends so we go back a long way. He brought this song to me. Jimmy thought it was a very important song for me to do. He thought it was like "Stop Draggin More Heart" was in a way. It was that kind of a career changing song. And, of course, you couldn't tell me anything in 1985 and I just really didn't want to do another person's song, you know? So, I at the end, I did record I it and then when all the songs were recorded in the end, you know, a couple songs had to go, I pulled it because it wasn't one of my songs and now, I didn't even remember that Reconsider Me existed until Atlantic went back in all their vaults and found a bunch of stuff-a bunch of wild and crazy stuff that's been lost forever…and um…they loved it and I said great, you know, great. It's a great song. I was very surprised that I sung it well because I didn't really remember recording it that much so I didn't really remember the fine tune parts of it, but when they played it for me I thought 'wow, it's a great song'. I'm not a real 'reconsider me' gal but it's okay because I didn't write this. I can sing this and I can interpret this for Warren and I hope everybody really likes it.

No, "Talk To Me" was recorded in May 1985, after Stevie and the record company coaxed Jimmy into coming on back to try to get some hit singles for Stevie. They recorded 5 songs that May. The plan was to get them done and release the album in August 1985.

So, Jimmy left, but he also returned. Ginny Kamano herself said that "Talk To Me" was recorded in May 1985 when Iovine returned to record 5 more songs with Stevie. Maybe that's when "Reconsider Me" was recorded as well, May 1985.

Jimmy Come Back?

I was just wondering if anyone had a clear version? Its my name but all I've heard from the ones I've heard was the he broke my hand and went on starving...then will be bop...you're taking my part out...sheesh.

mikebise 04-22-2011 05:30 PM

Oh, I love your lyrics!!!!

I don't have a good version.

There were several "Jimmy, Come On Back"s in that first eBay win of about 4 weeks ago. Let's hope that winner shares with us all.

Thanks for the info KC. I think it's kinda funny that Stevie doesn't even remember a lot of RAL. I feel that Reconsider Me just didn't fit the album at that time. I'ts one of Stevies most dated sounding albums... And I so much like better a lot of the unreleased stuff. Maybe that's why Jimmy didn't like where it was going;.... She had all this great material, and then ended up deciding on Imperial Hotel and Sister Honey...

I have to agree with this statement esp the end about IH & SH those songs are just 'fillers' to me. All flash no substance really. Now I know some people like them and thats fine but sometimes I think what was left on the 'cutting' floor so to speak was better than what we'd ended up with. Plus as we have mentioned many many times I always wonder if the original concept LP that is : Mirror, Mirror with just Jimmy Iovine himself--I do wonder if itself would've been a much better product?? I would hope so but well I guess we'll not ever know. Does anyone have any clue what songs were originally recorded for Mirror, Mirror. I'm sure we've discussed this before at length but I just don't recall other than MM and maybe One More Big Time R & R Star --I still think this was recorded earlier because of Stevie's voice than? same with Battle of The Dragon. I do think I would've loved MM better than RAL but we'll never know will we? sad but true.:D

So are these actually from a LOSSLESS source? I'm listening to them and notice that even though they're in WAV format, they're still very lossy and not much different than an mp3 version... Like, they still have that compressed sound.

So are they ripped as a wav file from an mp3 source?

I had posted this same alternate Single Remix of "I Can't Wait" a few months ago, but I found it on another CD, and it sounds better to me. Maybe not. Still ripping glitches in it, not from me. (I think it sounds better, and there are some extra Stevie vocals!)

sad songs

Hi you guys. Happy Easter, to those who celebrate. And for those who don't...I hope today is just as meaningful to you as well.

I have an odd request. I have had some painful losses recently and some of those I love are having a hard time...my Mum, Sue, Kristin....you don't know them but I just like to give posts a bit of me.

Anyway, I am sure some of you have been where I am sometimes...kind of sad but, you just keep going...and you keep things" up" the best you can.

So, here is my request. Stevies sad but thread of hope songs actually helpp me feel better...its weird, I don't know if you guys go through something kind of deep...and you had a demo or song playing on loop at the time...

I lost my sister and grandmother in my arms not long ago...

When I was driving in the rain without my glasses to the hospital...after she was gone, I had the clearest Sanctuary playing...and it was like a session cd.

The silver springs multi demo/outtake...etc...were for my sister.

Time is going to be really bright...and I was hoping someone had a collection.
you guys have been keeping me going as I take my computer phone...and all of you with me...everywhere I am pulled...and go. You make me smile.

Aw, this was so touching. It's so true though, songs work magic when you're in a certain mood. Especially Stevie songs. I know I've had a billion moments with them. Keep your chin up

That was sweet and made me cry. God bless you, angel.
