I have belted show tunes in FM concerts AND belted FM tunes in a show tune voice - then again, I am a little odd

Well it's just that this alleged song "Not Make Believe" reminded me of "Make Believe."

How do you guys know that this song does in fact exist?

chiliD 04-18-2006 12:48 PM

Are you serious?

It was one of the "extra" songs on the bonus disc with the Limited Edition Say You Will.

You can hear a clip here:

It's on my Say You Will bonus disc. Which wasn't much of a bonus. I don't think you're missing much.

Holy christ I bought that bonus disc.

I haven't heard it for a couple of years because I can't find it. But now I'm wondering if I ever played that 2nd disc at alll?! What was it? like cuts from earlier albums?

It was Lindsey's version of Dylan's "Love Minus Zero/No Limit", Stevie's outtake "Not Make Believe" and "Peacekeeper" & "Say You Will" from the AOL Sessions promo performance.

Which I must say I thought was good!!!!!!

I like Not Make Believe in terms of the musical structure and interesting drumming and phrasing. But, I think the lyrics are trite, even for her, especially IMO the red ones below - commentary from the peanut gallery -

It isn't just that we cause each other such pain
Everywhere we go now, at home or at play
It hurts my self-esteem, it hurts my everything
I am reeling, oh, it hurts my feelings

Sometimes it was heavenly
Sometimes it was too heavy
Sometimes it's just too much for me
Well, I want to run away

But then there are the things that cast doubt away
Those things that made me stay for so long
Not make believe then
I'm not make believe now

It's not make believe then
I'm not make believe now
I didn't understand then
But I understand now

It was the best of the times
It was the worst of times
And they both rushed by
Like a thief in the night
Taking no prisoners
Just like the first time
Adventures in paradise
Just like the first time
[I mean REALLY  ]

Then there are the things that cast doubt away [this one is phrased beautifully IMO]
The things that made me stay for so long
Not make believe then
I'm not make believe now
It's not make believe then
I'm not make believe now
I didn't understand then
But I understand now

Then there are the things that cast the doubt away
The things that made me stay for so long
Not make believe then
I'm not make believe now

It's not make believe then
I'm not make believe now
I didn't understand then
But I understand now

I would rather have Stevie burping the alphabet than to have Silver Girl on SYW. I really loathe that song. In fact, and I didn't even realize I felt this way until right now , but I think Silver Girl is a LAZY attempt on Stevie's part. L-A-Z-Y. It goes nowhere! She really should have left that one in the vault never to have seen the light of day. As Simon would say, it was VERY self-indulgent of her to put that on SYW.

Actually, I've grown to like "Silver Girl"...by far not my favorite, but I don't think it is NEARLY as bad as I originally thought.

I'd put "Not Make Believe" in place of "Running Through The Garden"...now THERE'S a stinky song.
