It is interesting to read the comments here where people are saying the band could survive without Stevie....I believe whatever magic she had around her for a long time has faded and the cracks are starting to show and this generation of fans are much less forgiving. Yes, she is a legend, but the glitter does fade and it seems to be fading.

In my opinion Dave Stewart brought the darkness and decline to her career because he over exposed her....there was something enchanting and mystical about her being secluded and untouchable...

:lol::lol::lol::rolleyes:
Possibly because there has been an equal amount of press for Stevie's albumn, Gallery showing, and appearance on the voice as there has been for FM in general. Particularly after the initial announcement and first few shows.

brad975 10-14-2014 12:02 PM

It's comforting to note that Stevie did ultimately participate in the EP, and she'll likely contribute to a new album once it's close to completion.

They'll pick a few of her songs (likely both old and new), work out the arrangements, then invite her in to sing them.

That's how it's worked since Mirage. She spent only a couple of weeks with them working on Tango in the Night.

Maybe they'll add her backing vocals to a song or two.

Of course, I'd love it if she were more involved. But spending too much time around Lindsey the Studio Boss may be too much for her, and they don't need her there as a musician.

One of the things I really liked about Say You Will is how they added her voice to Lindsey's songs (something that hadn't happened since Rumours, to my recollection). Otherwise, it would have sounded like Tusk (with a disconnected Lindsey solo album built in).

Stevie loves to sing harmony, but she's been criminally underused in that capacity since joining the Mac in 1975 (Rumours outtakes like Oh Daddy, YMLF, and NGBA indicate how much more she could have contributed).

At this point, she's probably thinking, "Why bother getting involved too early? Lindsey's just going to dominate the album anyway."

once again corroborates that report from m&g, whether peeps want to believe it or not.

At the 10/7 MSG meet and greet, Mick said that Stevie still needed to be "coerced" into adding her songs to the album.

SteveMacD 10-14-2014 12:43 PM

Just throwing this out there: could it be that Stevie is playing her cards close because, as we all know, once she signs on for a new album, Mick won't shut about it in the press? Look at how well he did keeping quiet about Christine's return.

Macfanforever 10-14-2014 12:45 PM

Sorry to be blunt guys . Who wants to bother going into the studio and put up with the bull crap bickering and fighting every time they record.this reminds me going to my old job and fighting with the idiot co-workers.Thank goodness I dont have to put up with it no more.
I look at it this way .If it was not for the driving force of Stevie. We probably wont be seeing FM on tour and getting Chris involve again.

On the other note I do hope she makes her way to record with the Mac again in my lifetime.

Thank goodness for Dave's magic on the instant fast paced in the studio to get Stevie's 24K on in months instead of FM's slow-motion way of recording.

Stevie has never had so many things going on and has never been more visible and relevant than she is now...at her age we are talking about a possible Top Ten Debut of her solo album, that is Amazing...

Truth. All talk of a FM album is being kept under wraps until Stevie's promotion of her solo album concludes. Logic & reason, for the win!

How is Stevie a driving force in FM? Lindsey, Mick and John have always been game and they've always had to depend whether Stevie was up for it or not. As for as productivity goes she holds them back, no question.

Lindsey, Christine, Mick and John laid down 7 or 8 tracks...or however many they said it was.....in only 2 months of work. That's mostly Christine's new songs. Lindsey has already recording the bulk of his material from before.

I do think there's a gag order of sorts. I think that's why Lindsey doesn't mention plans for a new album on stage. Whereas last tour he talked about the EP and his hopes that the other songs they had recorded would find an outlet.

This time, even though he and Chris have recorded songs, he doesn't mention them and I think there's a reason.

However, I don't think Stevie has committed to an album yet. So, I don't think they know there will be one and just aren't talking about it. I think Mick hopes he'll be able to convince her to do one.

I concur! Of course Christine is getting a lot of attention, as she should. That doesn't deduct anything from Stevie. Dave Stewart has been a great inspiration and supporter of Stevie. Where is this darkness and decline?
Just like you said, the glitter is intact.

Dave breathed new life into Stevie, and I'm loving every minute of it. :sorry:

Exactly. Anyone doubting that can read the reviews for 24k and you'll see she's definitely not in decline. If anything, it's the opposite.

As far as her recording with Fleetwood Mac goes, I hope she doesn't. That way maybe she could do a 24k tour and pound out another solo album before she's 70. I don't think Fleetwood Mac needs her to be successful at all, especially since Christine's back. Fleetwood Mac has been through variations of itself many times and survived. Maybe there can be a new version without Stevie. I'm all for it.

Getting Stevie "on board" with recording is as easy as letting LB know that the rest of the band has decided to let Stevie have creative control of her FM songs...It's that simple...Step aside Lindsey and let Mama bring the greatness of her last two albums into the FM sound...Lindsey has ruled the band long enough time let Stevie do her thing...Who knows the songs might actually be good...

I meant to say on touring.

Yes I agree .the rest of Mac are piecing their work together on the Mac's album as Stevie was getting her 24K put together.

Got a point there.

I rather see her promote her 24K on a solo tour then FM touring with no new tunes in 2015.

If the argument comes down to who gets creative control, then why not let Christine make some of the decisions? She's the one who came back with some material and has also provided the band with the most Top 40 records.

Honestly speaking, if all of this even has a sparkle of truth in it, Stevie's doing nothing but hurting her own image. She's had two albums in the past 5 years of her own material and the band wants another album (possible a final one). They're not getting any younger, who knows how long they'll continue touring for and on top of that, Stevie doesn't even seem really bothered to write any new material seeing as she rushed out an album of oldies.

The problem with this is, I don't think the rest of the band has any problem with Lindsey's creative vision for the band. Some of his ideas don't end up making it (Double album in 2003, anyone?) but who can ever honestly say they have a 100% track record?

Stevie's out of excuses. Apparently, she was hesitant about giving new material to the Mac for an album because of sales worries (is that correct?) yet turned around and rushed out a new solo album. I'm sorry, what? If she's over that now, then it's time to put up or shut up. I was having a discussion with a customer just this morning at my CD store I manage and he bought The Dance CD because he and his wife said they are going to try to see them in Greensboro. He asked if there was any word on a new album and I said no, rumor has it there are complications and Stevie possible may not be on board for it. His response? "Seriously? After McVie came back and everything? Well **** her then, miss high and mighty."

Exactly. They don't need Miss High and Mighty to sell records or tickets. They can go back to being a blues band with occasional rockers from Lindsey.

There should be a "sits back on the sidelines eating popcorn whilst shifting eyes from one person to another" emoticon! So much drama here!

Like I've said MANY TIMES on the forum, only 5 PEOPLE really know the truth of what's going on with the future of the band...

Wow. I assume the people who believe this also believe her "performance" at the BMI award show was wonderful.

I was just pointing out that her glitter is fading, people are not thrilled by her anymore, she is going down in flames and her fans are applauding. I can't figure out if her PR "spin doctors" are trying to do damage control on this board by defending her flops or her fans are defending an empty space or a little of both.

FM will survive with or without her.

Ugh. I sure hope that's not what it takes. My copy of 24 Karat Gold finally arrived today and I listened to it excitedly... and was pretty unimpressed (except for maybe "Lady" and a couple others). I know it's getting some good reviews, but man, it sure sounds stuck in the '80s to me. And I LIKED In Your Dreams decently enough. Such a shame. I hope FM doesn't feel the need to kowtow to the whims of Stevie -- or ANY one of its members, for that matter. Almost all of them have acted like divas at one point or another, but the age of the big-ego diva is behind us, thankfully. I hope Stevie can put the self-centeredness aside and think about the great music that could be made TOGETHER.

Again, still don't know why you're saying that her "glitter is fading," and that she's "going down in flames" - or what either of those phrases means in this context. People can and do differ as to the quality of her most recent album (many like me think it's a career standout), but objectively speaking, I truly do not understand how she is somehow at a career lowpoint. It's simply not true.

Again, exactly.

MOST reviews and fan reviews of 24k have been very positive, and that's just the truth. This does not equate "going down in flames" by any means.

In case there's any question, I am not one of the "Spin Doctors". In fact, I doubt she has any. Her management team isn't smart enough to think of something like that.

Do they still have a deal with Warners/Reprise/other?

I really think they would need all five involved to have any chance of success. They're never going to shift huge numbers anymore, but that said you see the likes of Rod Stewart and others in their age bracket doing pretty well.

Sales aren't the be all and end all for them now, and as long as it's a good album that's all that really matters - but with decent promotion they could still do ok (hence people being annoyed at the Glastonbury news!).

A lot of speculation, accusations, and finger-pointing in this thread, despite the fact that this is all based on something Mick allegedly said. And, even if he did say something regarding the new album and Stevie's participation, without knowledge of his exact wording, we have no idea if this "Stevie's not on board" comment being attributed to him is even accurate.

For what it's worth, either Christine or Lindsey (I'm blanking on which) said just a couple of months ago, that Stevie has "assured" the band that she will be ready and available to participate in the album once they're ready to resume recording after the tour.

That quote was directly attributed. So I'm much more inclined to believe it than this latest rumored B.S.

I don't know if WB would give them a deal without Stevie being involved..."24 Karat Gold" just landed at #8 on the Billboard chart so FM should be able to do the same as long as Stevie participates.

Yes, I think they would be reluctant too.

Am not really a fan of her solo career (have a couple of her albums only) but that's great news that the album is doing so well:thumbsup:

I do wish her well with her solo stuff but do hope she can find time to record with FM. I reckon she will in the end;)

Baseless conjecture (well... if by baseless you mean, the band's history over the last 34 years). Some of these Christine/Lindsey songs will show up on a Lindsey solo album. Some will show up on a FM ep or greatest hits re-release to bolster another tour. In the meantime (HAHAHAHAHAHAH) Lindsey and Stevie will tour said solo projects. There will never be another FM album again. EDIT: Lindsey solo album should be titled "High & Mighty"

#8 isn't all that good in terms of sales. I don't think they will release it without her. That would not make sense on so many levels.
If marketed correctly, FMac could really have some stellar album sales. They certainly sold tickets very well.

It would be great if we could do a study. We could ask people who consider themselves "casual" Fleetwood Mac fans if they'd be interested in a release and tour of a Stevie-less Fleetwood Mac. It would be interesting to see what the results of that would be.

One more album as a five piece would be a great way for the band to go out. Let's see what happens.

bombaysaffires 10-14-2014 06:47 PM

someone (a Ledgie?? Karen??) just lost their sh&t on Richard for him saying if Stevie didn't join the band for a new album what is the point of said album--- meaning…..without the full 5, the chance to cap their careers with one more album as a fivesome is lost. This person went off, saying their blood was boiling over his "flip" response implying that the band can't record without Stevie.

If people can't stand dissenting opinions, maybe they should stay off online forums..just sayin'
