yes, that was one of the points of this poll - to estimate how many fans of each songwriter we have currently active on the board.

realistically, stevie probably has more like 80 fans on TL, many of them who never seem to check Rumours forum, and not just 40+ who voted in this poll.

just show you how ridiculous is to do polls in which stevie's songs are pitted against the songs from other 2 songwriters (all you people who voted to do them:wavey: - such as current poll MSB has opened - just look at the results in it so far :laugh:). such poll results in most cases remind me of the US Congress - most votes are divided down the party lines :D

I'm a HUGE Stevie fan but I just voted for one of Lindsey's songs over several of hers in MSB's latest poll. Don't just assume I'd vote for Stevie.

Seriously though, that's why Tusk is my favorite Mac album. All three song writers are at their peak of creativity. The rhythm section makes the songs pop! I love all five members, together they are the most unique band EVER.... But, I confess I am a proud chiffonhead. Its the passion and dedication I feel when I listen to their songs that keeps me obcessed with Stevie, Christine, and Lindsey's lyrics.:xoxo:

Yeah, it's a compulsion. It's deep-rooted.

Christine has the best in-studio voice, and has lost none of her range. She has trouble live when the sound is way up.

Stevie can sing live and in studio and makes the most of her diminished range.

Lindsey can't really sing anymore. He just sorta shouts and/or talks.

I couldn't have said it better. It's really too bad about Lindsey's voice. He could really get up there, when he was younger.

Christine really is amazing, that age only seemed to make her voice better. That's really unusual.

Especially considering her omnipresent drink and cigarette. Normally the combination of the two would destroy a singing voice.

I don't know how you can say that about someone who has not been heard from in almost a decade. The sixties is a precarious age, and Christine is almost 70 :eek:. I would be utterly shocked if she sounded exactly the same today as she did on ITM.

I think Lindsey can sing and live I think he has been singing pretty well for the last 5 years, (but recently better than ever). He doesn't have range though.

I've voted Christine because although i prefer Stevie's solo stuff a little more Christine's Mac stuff is just beautiful and I feel a more emotional connection to her material. I also think she's a little underrated and she has a wicked very English sense of humour and lovely legs. LOL.

exactly. seems like people who haven't heard him recently are making some extrapolations from whenever they've heard him last. these rumors keep flying around a lot it seems, because i was completely shocked when i first heard him live in April.

Honestly, I wouldn't shocked. In fact, I'd be shocked if she hadn't sounded good. If she could make it to her early 60s sounding like she did on the White album, why not to the 70s?

I guess none of us will know for sure unless (until?) she puts an album out again.

Fair enough. But the voice that belted Blue Letter--and even Bleed to Love Her--is no more, and that saddens me.

I have his latest cd, which is great. Heard him live on the last FM tour in Rochester. Unless something miraculous has happened, I'm not thrilled with his voice live.

and i don't know what happened, but his solo live voice has been incredible all last year. you can argue that some of that has been pre-engineered and mixed in at live shows, but we've also heard him sing live at 92Y, without even a proper mic let alone any engineering (check a bit earlier in this thread for Hejira's recording of one of the songs he did then).


EDIT: and, i hate what he did to his voice on SWS. all 6 songs from that album are much better live, with his regular voice - imo, of course.

Well it's great to know he got his voice back. I guess it is very possible, with the right living, etc... Christine's voice in 1984 was much worse off than it was in 1987.

could be a part of it, i don't know whether he's using some kind of vocal coach or something too...

i wouldn't necessarily say he's got his voice "back" because he definitely doesn't have the high range anymore, not surprisingly. a lot of his sounding so good might be due to putting his songs in the key he can actually sing them in. just a speculation, but might be possible that with FM, with both his and SN's voice loosing range, they cannot find the range in which both of their voices can do their best.

another caveat, i don't like his young high girly-sounding voice. the voice he has now is lower, much fuller, and all around pretty impressive when you hear it during solo shows.

You know, I really appreciate his deeper "normal" voice after the helium thrill ride of Gift of Screws. We have that high, rapid manipulated voice throughout the song and then at the end you have regular Lindsey coming in and sing-talking "to the left, to the right, up and down, in and out, that's right baby, that's right" and I think it is such a hot, jarring contrast. My ears like the testosterone perk.

But I had a similar experience when I first heard Michael Jackson's 2000 Watts. I was thinking, "whoa, who is this man? Where's Michael been hiding him?"

To be hyperbolic, this was a real Sophie's Choice for me. I'm a "package deal" kinda gal. I do love all of Lindsey's solo albums (as opposed to about 75% of Stevie's) but ultimately had to vote Chiffon in 2012. I have a tambo tattoo, 'nuff said.
