Watch Stevie Nicks Dedicate ‘Landslide’ to New York’s Jada Yuan

On Saturday, underneath an appropriately magical Supermoon, Fleetwood Mac played a slew of classics to a packed Jones Beach. Stevie, Lindsey, Mick and John opened with "Second Hand News" and ended with "Say Goodbye" — but not before a very special "Landslide" dedication to one of New York's own: Jada Yuan. "I always kind of save this for people who I consider to be family or really my closest, closest friends," Stevie began. "She wrote the most beautiful article about me. I thought, 'She's 35 years old, she doesn't even ... ' Come to find out that she got it. She got something that no one who has ever written about me has ever gotten. I'll never, ever forget it. It lives in my journal."

A ‘Landslide’ of Appreciation: Stevie Nicks Thanks New York Mag’s Jada Yuan

By Kara Bloomgarden-Smoke 6/25 6:18pm

When New York magazine reporter Jada Yuan went to see Stevie Nicks at Jones Beach last weekend, she got more than a concert T-shirt. During the show, Ms. Nicks dedicated “Landslide” to the journalist, who had recently written a profile of the singer.

“I would like to dedicate this song to a girl, a lady. Her name is Jada and she wrote the most beautiful article about me,” the Fleetwood Mac singer said.

“She got something that nobody that has ever written about me before has ever gotten,” continued Ms. Nicks. “And I just wanted to tell her how much I appreciate that.”

“I’ll never, ever forget it. Her name is Jada, and I want to thank her so much.”

Ms. Yuan, who was in the audience, was stunned. “I cried through the whole song and don’t even remember at least the next five,” Ms. Yuan told OTR.

Weeping, even without having Ms. Nicks dedicate the song to you, is apparently a common reaction to “Landslide.”

In the profile, which ran in the June 17 issue of New York, Ms. Yuan wrote of the song: “Chances are, you or someone next to you was weeping during ‘Landslide,’ with that chorus you might casually dismiss as cliché until you find yourself singing it in unison with 15,000 fans: ‘Time makes you bolder / Children get older / I’m getting older, too.’”

Ms. Yuan spent about four months working on the 5,823-word feature and saw multiple concerts. Most profile writers say that after spending so long with a subject—during both the interview and the writing process—the illusion of familiarity often fades once the piece is published.

“Anyone who writes profiles knows you end up spending a lot more time with the subject than they do with you,” Ms. Yuan said. “For them, it’s an hour or two out of their lives, but you spend days or weeks with this person rattling around in your head, and you can get pretty invested and then never hear from them again.

“It’s rare to get any feedback, let alone that they thought you got it right. So to hear it from Stevie Nicks, who’s such a beautiful writer herself, was a really special honor.”

Ms. Yuan, who was at the concert with a friend, went backstage afterward and got to follow up in person with the singer.

While the mandate of a magazine profile isn’t to please the subject, Ms. Yuan’s article wasn’t a puff piece by any means—it tackled Ms. Nicks’ battles with drugs, her weight and relationships.

The singer’s honesty about her struggles is one reason she has so many fans. Her gracious reponse to the article, said Ms. Yuan, “says a lot more about Stevie than it does about me.”

Video below (be prepared to have the song stuck in your head for at least 24 hours):

Fleetwood Mac rocks Jones Beach concert in Long Island, New York
rock and pop
June 24, 2013 By: Markos Papadatos

On a warm summer evening on June 22, Fleetwood Mac performed at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Long Island, New York, for a packed amphitheater.

They commenced their set with “Second Hand News” and they followed it up with “The Chain,” as well as the classic “Dreams.”

Other noteworthy tunes that they performed in sequence included “Sad Angel,” “Rhiannon,” “Not That Funny,” “Tusk,” “Sisters of the Moon,” “Sara,” as well as “Big Love.”

Prior to introducing “Landslide,” Stevie noted that the song was written in 1973 and it subsequently became one of the group’s signature songs. “There are so many people here that I cannot thank enough for everything that they have done. First of all, I would like to dedicate this song to a girl, Jana that wrote this beautiful article about me. I want to thank her so much and I will never forget it since it lives in my journal and it goes from journal to journal,” the rock songstress remarked.

Her soaring rendition of “Landslide” showcased Nicks’ distinct lilting vocals.

Equally captivating were “Gypsy,” “Gold Dust Woman,” as well as Stevie Nicks’ smash hit as a solo artist “Stand Back.”

They closed with “Go Your Own Way,” and returned for an encore that included such vocals as “World Turning,” “Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow,” as well as “Silver Springs” and “Say Goodbye.”

Conclusion

Overall, Fleetwood Mac gave a tremendous live show at Jones Beach. Stevie Nicks nailed the vocals and John McVie rocked the bass guitar. Lindsey Buckingham proved that he is one of the best lead guitarists the rock genre of music has to offer and Mick Fleetwood was phenomenal on drums and percussion.

They were able to breathe new life into these timeless hits and introduce them to a brand new generation of fans. The group interacted extensively with the crowd throughout the evening and Stevie proved that she is a great storyteller, in addition to a gifted vocalist. For passion and enthusiasm alone, their show garners 5 out of 5 stars.

According to Christine Nagy, esteemed radio personality from New York's 106.7 Lite FM, she remarked, “Stevie Nicks is such a timeless and ageless singer and songwriter, as well as a super front-woman. She is the only member of Fleetwood Mac who gets to perform her solo song, ‘Stand Back,’ in their concerts. She is also a strong, single woman who has dedicated her life to her art, especially since she spends her free time visiting wounded soldiers. There aren't many stars that will downsize their lives to spend more time doing charity work. I really admire her.”

Seeing Lindsey's face when she put him on the spot was priceless. She's still trying to convince him going solo was ok.

LOL. Do not nod affirmatively in response to that question, Lindsey.

Awesome night! Very tired, but the Without Intro, was yet again, a little different. Very funny, until Stevie got a little IDK maybe irked. Silver Springs was on fire, and Linds added another verse. Loved the GYOW intro. World Turning was a blast. During the Big Love intro, Lindsey had an exchange with someone in the front, she said she was born in 1994, the he said" your legal",a little strange. Major traffic getting home, and getting into JB parking was a nightmare.

THIS WAS ME. Basically Lindsey had been talking to me & my friends a lot that night throughout the concert because we were standing directly in front of him. During the Without You intro we were talking to Lindsey about picks and that's when Stevie was like "Are you even listening?!" or whatever. & he wasn't so she got annoyed. And then during Big Love he said "This song was written in 1987; before you were born, right?" and then he pointed at us. I just shrugged & my friend Ally yelled "1994! '94!" And then he said to her "'94?" and then I yelled "YEAH, WE'RE LEGAL." And he was like, in shock. LMFAO. He laughed and was blushing and then he said "Uhh.. I kind of lost my train of thought there." And I was like "SORRY LINDS!" It was hilarious. Everyone that heard was cracking up.
I think Stevie heard and she was mad. When they walked out together and hugged she was staring at us the entire time!
