Stevie is my favorite person to read interviews from EVER!
she comes up with the craziest one liners and statements like this

that SYW stuff is crap
i think she only sees the negative aspects and not the fun side of it
like her only memories of making it are fighting with lindsey over the tracklisting and the double album and the END of the tour
well what about all the inbetween stuff
there were lotsa happy Stevie smiles on that tour :P

i think Stevie is maybe kinda jealous he has that [seemingly] stable life [wife.kids etc] and she doesnt. that competition comment is soooooo true. if i cant have lindsey, well no1 can have lindsey and i certainly aint gonna let him be happy without me. you NEEEEEEEEED me lindsey :p
i think she goes around saying she hates him and will never be friends with him to hide her real feelings. she cant exactly go around saying she still loves him and wishes she was his wife and blah blah blah Lindsey would prob holla a "Sucked in baby, you left ME" at her OR Mrs Buck would be NOT impressed with Mama and Lindsey would get it all and it would come back on Stevie

We loved Say You Will, we hate Say You Will, I'm not touring ever again without Christine, I'll tour without Christine. We got along really well during SYW, all we did was fight during SYW. Sheryl Crow is joining the band, Sheryl Crow isn't joining the band. We have eight more years in us, I don't have enough time to eat a meal and I'm exhausted.

Bottom line... WE NEED YOUR MONEY!!

lol....great assessment, I've had the same thought myself. I could just imagine Chris sitting there, listening to this crap, giving a slight glance in John's direction while rolling her eyes about these two. The older they get, Lindsey takes 500 words to get across one point and Stevie is basically just bitchy all the time. It would be refreshing to just hear:

LB: You know, she's a bitch, I don't really even like her, but we need each other to be successful (i.e. make money).
SN: Yeah, he's a real asshole, he's been mean to me forever, but we need each other to be successful (i.e. make money).

I agree with you to an extent. But, they don't need each other to be successful.

Agreed, but look at what I put in parenthesis, that's what they need each other for. I was being somewhat facetious in reference to what they seemingly equate success with (money). Lindsey and Stevie can do all the solo albums and tours that they want, but in 2009 and beyond, the REAL money is in Fleetwood Mac and they each know it.

Ugh, I sometimes wish Stevie would stop, take a breath and THINK about how she words things. I honestly don't think she means to be condescening or arrogant or ANYTHING...I think she really doesn't word her thoughts correctly (which is so ironic seeing what a great writer is). I think when she said that about Lindsey, I really believe that she meant it positively. That a wonderful thing ABOUT him was how he loved her.

As for the whole Joe Walsh thing *rolls eyes*. I think we've all been in situations where we look back on something that wasn't so wonderful but remembered the good things. I do it all the time with certain ex-boyfriends. Then, you remember. I obviously know nothing about any of the private moments between Stevie and Joe but I do know that he treated her terribly. Some of the things he said about her, the way he constantly abandoned her...everything. And yes, we can say he was on drugs and was messed up- She was messed up herself. Still, the fact is he did treat her that way and it really does break my heart that she holds him on that pedestal.

and maybe it's just me but...I love Say You Will. I really do!

But if it was ALL hate, this band would've been over quite long ago.

I think she meant it that way and that the message is not only that Lindsey loved her that much, but that she never loved him as much in return. I think that's the impression that she wants to leave, although I don't think it's a reflection of what she really feels.

And it's not that this behavior is one-sided on her part. Lindsey has done it too. I mean, he was the one saying that Stevie and Mick were in cahoots to get him to stand closer to her on stage and play up their star crossed love and -- true or not -- I think he would only say that to be petty. And I know I think he was doing a Rolling Stone interview in the eighties and Stevie called him on the phone and he said something to the writer about her longing for his approval. I mean, I think she DOES want his approval. She is the one who said that she hoped he was finally just a little bit proud of her when she did the TISL album. So, I don't think what he said was untrue, but I do think he said it to be mean.

So, he says things to needle her just the same way she does it to him. The only difference is, Lindsey's behavior in that regard, his propensity to take jabs at her through the media, has improved and become a lot less frequent over the years. Hers hasn't. I'm not saying he's not being just as childish with her in private as she is, but he's not doing it overtly in public as much as she is.

Ok, help me out. What point is she trying to get across with this quote? Is she talking about Joe or Lindsey here? Both perhaps? Not that I'm surprised but the whole thing seems to be a contradiction within itself. Anyone care to try to intepret this Steviespeak?

I also wonder if the author just pulled the "Joe is the great love of my life" stuff from older interviews just to try to tie it to this quote which appears to be more recent given the phrasing.

I hope so. Whatever portion of my faith in her that was lost because of this interview will be partially restored.

Well on the upside, to my knowledge, we have only a few articles with this reference.

I don't think she's talking about Joe or Lindsey there. She says things were always volatile with Lindsey and they were with Joe too. Both of these men went on to forge long lasting relationships, but with women who were different from them and different from Stevie. I think Stevie is saying maybe that would have been the key for her as well.

So, I think she's talking about Carl the nebbish accountant who really loved her, but whom she just wasn't that into. Maybe she realizes that that's who could have brought her the most happiness. Not the heart-soaring highs and lows, rage and desire, but the day in and day out contentment. The nurturing, "normal" family life. He could have steadied out her rock star urges and with him and his horn-rimmed glasses she could have found peace and balance. But it was never to be.

Well, in some ways that's a relief. Otherwise the only songs we'd ever have had from her would have been about 1099s and feeling neglected during tax season.

But seriously, now that you put the comment into that context for me, I can see how it is relevant.

" I didn't like the songs" is the quote that's staying with me, some 8 hours after having read the article. She didn't say "I didn't like my songs"- I have a feeling she did like her songs, 'Silver Girl' and all. Yet, she didn't come out and say "I didn't like Lindsey's songs on SYW" but I think that may be closer to the truth.
Regarding some of the comments here about 'Tusk'- it was as early as 1986 when Stevie said that she did like the album. The famous Australian interview- with Molly somebody (a guy) and she said something like "I liked that album a lot and even liked Lindsey's songs on it a lot, which is what most of the criticism was about"-- she also commented she thought it was an album that could take a long time for people to 'get' but that eventually, in their quiet, alone, time, there'd be a lot of people who would really appreciate 'Tusk' and she was glad they made the album. Stevie then sang a smidge of 'Walk A Thin Line'- one song of LB's that I totally love (there are others) and it would be heaven to hear her do the song completely.

I think Stevie liked her songs, but think that someone else could have done a better job with them. I mean, we all love Thrown Down, but I think she thinks it could have been better. Then, there are songs like Smile at You where many people say her demos were better. She probably thinks they were too.

I think she probably was unhappy with the album all along. I wouldn't say she looks proud as punch in Destiny Rules. In fact, I'd say that she probably heard what he did with her old songs, while she was on tour, didn't like it and that's why she wrote 4 new songs at breakneck speed. But even though Lindsey bears the brunt of all of her unhappiness with SYW, probably he's only really responsible for a part of it.

I do remember Stevie saying when Tusk came out that she liked Walk a Thin Line, when asked to name one of Lindsey's songs that she liked on the album. Then of course we have the reference in the Mirror, Mirror lyrics. I really like that. Michele

I hope this is Stevie speaking the truth about Fleetwood Mac touring 7-8 years more and do more albums:blob2: :blob1:BUT I sooooo hope this isn't the end of her solo career!!!! :( :(
