Glad this has finally been cleared up (at least IMO)! It never made sense to me that the WOS version was Mac. A summary of the reasons:

_ The prominence of Stevie's backup singers.
_ It appeared on the German acetate TISL -- this alone proves it predates the Say You Will sessions.
_ As Johnny Stew notes, Sheryl's promise that there would be an exciting Lindsey guest appearance on TISL.
_ An earlier version of "Thrown Down" is never discussed in the "Destiny Rules" film. If they had entirely scrapped the first version and re-recorded, it's likely there would have been some reference to that in the doc.
_ The new lyrics in the final version... indicating a significant amount of time passed between the recording of WOS and the final.

Convincing .....but what about the drums & bass? I'm quite positive that we're hearing Mick And John.........

Well I recently did a computer reformat so I don't have the WOS version to reference for starters :lol: Without hearing the other TISL track that JS mentioned, I can't say - but from memory I'd agree that the rhythm might be John and Mick. But who knows..

Nancy - yep; when I got back from a month in Japan at the end of 2002, the version had been leaked and was being touted as the first leak of an actual SYW track. When I heard it I hated it (in terms of it being a new sound for FM) and suggested that it was produced to be like a 'Wall of Sound', a nickname that I noted was taken up from that thread onwards. Only the person who said it first would ever remember who first said it :p And anyway as Gerald pointed out, it wasn't very appropriate to begin with!

I only have three non-album versions: a 4:44 bare-bones demo version, a 5:49 demo with more instrumentation, and then the 4:43 one that's always labeled "Wall Of Sound," with Stevie's backing singers and Lindsey.

Where can I find the one I'm missing? :D

The SYW version has always seemed very unfinished to me - it could have used a little something extra :shrug:

First of all, am I the only one who notices that the "wall of sound" version of Thrown Down sounds a lot like Big Love?

Second, I must say that I really like Not Make Believe, but I think there could have been more in the way of production. It sounds unfinished to me. I would have really liked more background vocals, like a nice harmony vocal here or there. Or something else in the background of the chorous.

(Be glad you missed out on the ****storm that erupted when the speculation about whom Stevie was singing about in "Can't Help Lovin' That Man" began to get heated.)

But the real firestorm started when Stevie had a ****-fit over their version of "Call The Wind Mariah"...thinking that they meant Mariah Carey, Stevie demanded they change it to "Call The Wind Stephanie".

It was cool when Mick did his vesturbation thing during "Oklahoma".
