It wasn't that dramatic. Me and my buddy were off for our regular 'Destiny' beer/bathroom break. We got near the Aladdin Men's room and there was quite a ruckus. Lots of yelling and swearing. Then two Towering Inferno Glamazons exploded out the Men's room entrance in a flurry of blonde wigs, chiffon, and fringes a flying. The presentation on both was complete with platforms. Each was nearly 7 feet tall. This was a notable occasion for me as it was the first time I had seen guys in Stevie drag at a show. Also, it was the first time I noticed that the audience was so ultra homo skewed. My buddy and I both said that night, "We thought we were the only gay guys into Stevie !" Au contraire. It was like a friggin gay parade in that joint. If you would have taken out all of us homos and the BBW's, that place would have been 1/3 full. :lol:

Well, that's unfortunate there, sparky, because the Vegas performance of "Destiny" was one of the two best on the entire tour (the other being Holmdel, New Jersey).

"Destiny" was fantastic throughout, though. It featured some of the best ensemble harmony singing Stevie & her friends have ever done live. They were perfectly on key, clear & strong. It was a Stevie Maalox Moment.

I had been out of the collecting dodge for many years by 1994, but it was really Stevie's singing -- especially on "Destiny" -- that revved me up again & made me buy a Goldmine magazine just to get started in the trading once again, primarily because I wanted tapes from the Street Angel shows. So Stevie's really responsible for giving me my second wind as a collecting fan! (Of course, it was Stevie who was responsible for my calling it quits to begin with.)

I don't doubt it was a nice version of the song. Alas, the song itself is a
Pepto or Milk of Mag moment for me. :shrug:

I was a really sicko fan from about '77 to about '87. I collected all the concerts on tape; catalogued & archived everything; went to all the shows in my home state of CA; communicated extensively with the network of American fans; tracked down newspapers, magazines & other print media like the mad dog I was; bought books, photos & records at swap meets & conventions; scoured the classified ads for memorabilia, etc. etc. etc. On the 1987 tour, Stevie started to stink. 1989 was a snoozer tour, too, & 1991 was foul. By that time I was totally sick of Stevie's gassed-out sound & look. Plus, the rest of Fleetwood Mac had transformed into a generic cock-rock outfit, a pickup band. But it was really Stevie who burned me out on Fleetwood Mac for many years; & then all those horrible fans started flocking to her, writing fanzines, singing her praises & doing some pretty dastardly things to other fans. The whole scene was a turnoff, & the public scorn that hounded the band at that point didn't help any.

But then the Street Angel Tour comes along -- nobody's expecting anything other than another Timespace Tour debacle from Stevie -- & blows me away. That's an exaggeration, but it was a shock to hear Stevie sing wonderfully again. So I advertised in Goldmine for concert recordings, & sort of got back into the swing of things.

Wow, that story made me sad...I didn't know the Timespace tour was such a debacle. Though i understand "before" stevie compared with "more recent" Stevie. Wow, glad you're back. I live in CA, too. I don't know why i said that.... :p

Timespace was NOT that bad IMO. She did some great songs.

-both hits from OSOTM
-IF ANYONE FALLS
-Introduced the Stand Back kick
-Amazing version of Edge of Seventeen
-I Need to Know never rocked any harder
-Changed almost every song
-Rhiannon brought back memories of Rosebud days!
-Landslide was awesome especially with the backup singers

Darling, the whole show was overdubbed. Listen to the unedited radio broadcast, then the Westwood One broadcast and they are two totally different beasts, the latter being almost all studio overdubs.

Oh, I thought Timespace was the pits. Really, really awful. She was not into in the least, her voice was really shot, the synth-heavy songs were too much to handle, the costumes were horrific, she looked haggard, it was just terrible.

I'm with David in that the Street Angel tour BLEW ME AWAY. To me, that's quite possibly her best tour. :nod:

Dissetion I agree when i traded for my first SA bootleg Video i was blown away. i thought it was incredible. Street angel is my 2nd or 3rd fav tour from her. Stand back was awesome with her white wings. and I really enjoyed the top hat for I Need to Know. Talk to Me was also excellent!

Darling, I have both of them. I couldn't stomach the concert when I was there. I think the only time in recent memory that I have heard anything from the overdubbed show has been from downloading the Rhiannon's that circulate endlessly...fooling all and sundry that they were original vocals. The fact that I can't ever remember hearing the whole Westwood One show is a sign that
a) I have too many bootleg cassette tapes
b) I have been far too busy since 1994
c) At one time I had WAY too much time on my hands - going to a concert and simultaneously taping the show off the radio with a cassette player.

Yes, the setlist was great. BUT Stevie was not great vocally for that tour. There's a few shows that are decent, but generally, not her best performances, IMO.

As far as the Welcome to my World unedited, yes, the voice is rough & scratchy at times. BUT she still belted every song out tremendously, despite the fact that she was ill. I think it's a great performance, with or without the overdubs.

Of the shows I saw & all the shows I've heard from 1991, I'd say that Irvine Meadows was the best night vocally for Stevie. But most of the other shows were embarrassments: Dallas, Wantagh, Holmdel, the pro-shot video from Mountain View, the show at the Whiskey, etc. And that band of hers that year . . . God help. They had all the personality & finesse of a runaway train with tin cans tied to the caboose. The band comprised the worst elements of AOR muscle rock like Heart & Poison -- loud, vapid & shlocky. And Stevie herself -- flat, toneless gabbling, dressed like a female impersonator's idea of Mae West (someone I know once said she dressed like an African-American woman going to Sunday church in Biloxi in 1955).

I call it Stevie's NASCAR year.
