The newspapers here in Britain (as in the broadsheets, I don't know about the tabloids!) don't tend to put quotation marks around any title whether it be a song, book, film or whatever. I'm kinda used to that. If you use capitals for all the words in a title (ie Tango In The Night rather than Tango in the Night) then you shouldn't need quotation marks, but as you said it's all down to house style! |

Fleetwood Mac worries overmuch about squeezing in all these hits every year, believing that otherwise hordes of people will ... what? riot? Ain't gonna happen, folks. All Mac has to do is just play a bunch of songs, & most of the crowd will go home content & smelling of beer. |

But three years before that, she was as high as a kite from start to finish (I saw the California shows), giddily chatting like a bipolar patient (she literally could not shut up--the motor nerve to her mouth had been hot-wired) & she was able to summon up the most unusual & amazing vocal pyrotechnics without the least bit of effort. THAT'S cocaine. |

In their case, they went home with their pants legs smelling of urine. Mad as hell, too. |

Now back to your regularly scheduled Fleetwood Mac discussion... |
I can't remember the exact quote (believe it or not!), but I believe Stevie was referring to the fact that she only sang "I Can't Wait" that one time in the studio and "never again," because that first vocal take was the one they used.
She was referring to recording the song, so I never read it as if she meant she never sang it again anywhere... just not in the studio. :) As for "I Still Miss Someone (Blue Eyes)"... I think that song has one of Stevie's absolute best vocals on the entire 'Mirror' album. So emotive and affecting. The way she sings, "well, there's someone... someone for me somewhere... but I still miss that one," is heartbreaking. But the production definitely did the song a disservice, and is a glaring example of how cold and stilted Rupert Hine's preoccupation with synths and drum machines, could sound. On 'Rock A Little' and 'The Wild Heart,' the synths (which is a sound I actually like) are balanced with acoustic instruments, and it works to great effect, IMO. |
Here is what she said:
Inspired by Rick Nowels I think this was about the most exciting song that I had ever heard. My friend, Rick, whom I had known since I was eighteen and he was thirteen, brought over this track with this incredible percussion thing, and gave it to me asking me if I would listen to it and consider writing a song for it...I listened to the song once, and pretended not to be that knocked out, but the second Rick left, I ran to my little recording studio and wrote "I Can't Wait." It took all night, and I think it is all about how electric I felt about this music...And that night, that SATURDAY night, Rick and I went into a BIG studio and recorded it. I sang it only once, and have never sung it since in the studio. Some vocals are magic and simply not able to beat. So I let go of it, as new to me as it was; but you know, now when I hear it on the radio, this incredible feeling comes over me, like something really incredible is about to happen... To understand this song, you sort of have to let yourself go a little crazy...love is blind, it never works out...but you just have to have it... I can't wait... ________________________________________ Hooray for Johnny Stew!!!!! Also, Johnny - I agree La Nicks' vocals on "I Still Miss Someone" are heartbreaking and a testament of what she could still do even then  |
Sort of an off-topic remark, I think I might have to agree with ChiliD here... The Other Side Of The Mirror, to me, is Stevie's weakest offering. Except for a couple of songs ("Rooms On Fire", "Juliet" and "Alice"), the problem of the production is never solved. It's an album that makes me feel tired.
I am listening to it right now, hence my 'song of the moment'. Song of the moment - Fire Burning |
The thing that's always puzzled me about "Rooms on Fire" is, why doesn't she just get the hell out of that room?
|
LMAO!!
Stop, drop and roll, Stevie!!!
|
... problems with fire... now her walls are flaming... what will happen next.
Song of the moment - Fire Burning |
There was no fire burning - it was just a soul crying
