Stevie said last year that there were two planned tours for 2015, so if that's still the case, and she tours for 24KG after the Mac tour ends (whenever that might be), how could she commit to a record? Because it would seem Christine and Lindsey began recording around the same time as Stevie, and if Stevie had already committed to her solo tour, and the recording of her album, can she really be expected to participate in the recording of the new Mac album? This all sounds like Tango to me. That being said, I highly doubt FM would do a "farewell album" without Stevie.

Again, the earliest they could go into the studio to record with Stevie would be in April. Saying she's not on board at this point, especially when she's trying to promote her new album while doing a Fleetwood Mac tour, seems a little disingenuous. There's nothing to be on board with right now.

Remember when Mick cried to Playboy that his band would never tour again, and Stevie was to blame?

With TISL she was promoting a tour and a new album just like she is right now and that didn't stop her from talking about the upcoming FM project, Christine leaving, the end of The Dance, etc. If you look at the TISL interviews, all of these topics were covered in the articles about her back then. So, I expected them to tour in 2014 and 2015. But I don't expect them to tour in 2016. I don't know about 2017. Michele |

Of course, things could easily change again on this tour. For some reason, though, that they extended the tour seems like a good sign for the band's future. |

Thank you, Elle. Whether the band decides to release a new album or not, they won't be able to do another tour after this without new music. since big money has always been a factor in the decisions these musicians make, new music has to be forthcoming. And it better be. We've all waited decades. If it has to be sans Stevie, so be it. I love her and all, but the musical chemistry between the remaining four is powerful enough to satisfy my ears. |

I would hate for what could possibly be Fleetwood Mac's last album to be Stevie free. She could pull a Tango move and make some cursory contributions to the album, then complain about it later. It's rather startling that she isn't inspired at all to work again with Christine in the studio. Speculation has run rampant. I wish Stevie would address the issue and reassure fans that she is excited to make a new album now that Christine is on board. There will be a some vilification towards her if she doesn't step up and bows out. I'm sure a Lindsey/Christine album is feasible, but it's just not right at this stage in the game for Stevie to disrespect the people and institution who plucked her out of looming obscurity. Three songs and some harmony parts isn't much to ask for. After all, she is not a musician, so she has it much easier than the rest of them. They are carrying most of the weight. "She did her work, but Mac fans were quietly crying. Does she ever feel guilty about not even trying. Sad pampered Stevie." Take some hard advice Stevie. Go write some real songs! |
I think we need to stop speculating so much and just wait and see. In all honesty, if we know anything about the Mac it is that they work in a "last minute decision" style. There could very well be a new album with all five involved as I find it highly unlikely that they would tour again with just the hits...there would not be much justification.
I think, to be honest, that Christine coming back to the band changed everything. Had she not, I do believe that sometime after the 2013 tour there would have been a new album (or at least a more cohesive EP) that the band would at some point tour behind. With Christine coming back, I think the band and their managers saw this as a great way to capitalize. They are essentially doing what they have done in 2009 and 2013, only this time Christine is here. From a marketing standpoint, a greatest hits tour with the whole lineup is big money. I am as glad as anyone to have Christine back and I do think the format of this tour is justified, however I believe it has taken place of working on new Fleetwood Mac music to be released in the near future. Most likely what will happen is that this tour will last until June 2015. I am sure that Stevie will do some performing for the 24 Karat gold release. To her credit, she has given a lot towards the band this time around as she is not even mentioning her new album at the shows. Stevie is a dedicated Fleetwood Mac member and I am sure that if the band does go on to make a new album, which I hope they do, she will be a part of it. As a personal side note, I would hate to think that all Stevie would do is "throw the band some other tunes from the vault," to paraphrase another poster. If the band do in fact make a new album it should be heartfelt and creatively invigorating for them (like the work with Buckingham and McVie seems to have been). When I listen to an album by a band I don't want to hear forced music...it needs to be real. |

Of course, now that Stevie's record is out, here all you go again with the b*tching about Stevie "holding back Fleetwood Mac". Let's not take such an innocuous comment Mick said about "persuading Stevie to take part in recording a new album" as her "not being on board". These cats really don't hang out with each other on a regular basis anymore, except to go on tour, promote themselves on interviews and talk shows, make business decisions and record albums. All 5 of these band members have their own "entourages" and "posse" when they tour. It's been like this since Tusk. It is highly possible that Mick and the band really haven't had the opportunity to discuss a new album project with her because this tour is the main focus at the moment. I'm sure that Stevie is well aware that Lindsey and Chris have been writing new material...and I'm sure, whenever asked, that Stevie will totally be on board with recording a new Fleetwood Mac record. |

Having read all the hysteria and jumping to conclusions here, here's my take on it:
More than likely Mick was making a past tense comment, that they had to persuade Stevie to do another FM album but this convincing was not recent, it was likely in tandem with Christine rejoining. We know they did an EP in 2013 because Nicks felt that "albums just don't sell anymore" and wasn't interested in a full-blown album. We also know she has complained about how Lindsey produced SYW. But now here she is, still saying that albums don't sell but it doesn't matter. As she said about 24KG "I wanted to do a great record, not a hit record." I'm guessing that Chris's rejoining the band is probably what convinced Stevie to do another album. That's why Chris and Lindsey have been working out songs while Stevie finished her 24KG album. That's why Christine has said that Stevie will definitely be on the album. That's why Lindsey talks in concert about a new chapter that will bear much fruit. So when Mick makes an offhand remark about "we had to persuade Stevie to join in" I'm sure that discussion was settled well prior to the current tour. |

I think a Stevie-less album will sell but not as well. Without Lindsey BTM only went gold. Without Christine SYW also only went gold. Plus, since Nicks is actually touring with FM I really really really doubt that she isn't already on board to record with them. That just wouldn't make sense; supposedly Christine floated the idea a few years ago of recording with FM but not touring and that was nixed by the rest of the band. I'd be surprised if they let Stevie get away with "touring but no recording". |

[QUOTE=elle;1148962]interesting. at the m&g in NYC, Mick reportedly said in response to question about their album that they have 27 (i think?) pieces recorded already (would that be 27 whole songs? can't remember?). after follow-up question on why did they not put that out already and what/who is holding the album, he was apparently pretty specific saying something like they need to get Stevie on board and she's not there yet. |

I still think Stevie hasn't fully committed in any formalized way to an album and I think she is holding out as a negotiating tactic. That's just how albums seem to go with her/them anymore. (SYW and the EP). So whatever is in her heart about a new album, I think (my opinion only) that she's not yet made a firm commitment ("signed the contract" so to speak). Maybe she's waiting to see how the tour plays out vis-a-vis Lindsey; maybe she's still insistent on getting the producer SHE wants; whatever it is, she's hesitating.

I WILL say that I didn't like that she got as many songs as Billy, Dave, and Mick COMBINED on "Time". |
When Guided by Voices recorded their first post-reunion album, management gave us a gag order because Robert Pollard's other band at the time, Boston Spaceships, just released an album that they were working. I suspect that's what's at play here.
|
A lot of speculation. Just like when she was not in the studio for the beginning. Then word came out that she had a commitment to Warner Brothers so she had to go do a record.
Stevie has a back log of material. And no doubt she is writing now. If there is a new FM record, Stevie will be on it. It would be senseless to do without her. She is the reason the band has stayed relevant without Christine. She is the one promoting her and the music. She said she never wanted to be the reason the band split up. Not sure why she would change that tone now as they are nearing the end of their touring life. They need to get through the tour. |

I am not so sure about that anymore. It looks like her glitter is starting to fade. Most of the media attention is on Christine and Lindsey on this tour.....even the fans comments on twitter have mostly focused on those two. It is interesting to read the comments here where people are saying the band could survive without Stevie....I believe whatever magic she had around her for a long time has faded and the cracks are starting to show and this generation of fans are much less forgiving. Yes, she is a legend, but the glitter does fade and it seems to be fading. In my opinion Dave Stewart brought the darkness and decline to her career because he over exposed her....there was something enchanting and mystical about her being secluded and untouchable... |

Nope. Not even close. |

Are you living in a parallel universe? Darkness and decline? Where have YOU been these past 4 years? Dave is responsible for the woman getting stuff done...new albums, documentaries, DVD's, gallery exhibits, need I go on? Overexposed??? Hardly. If we're going to talk about "darkness and decline" then let's discuss the decade in between TISL and IYD where all she did was tour the "oldies", repackage a "greatest hits" and release a live "greatest hits". Now that's DEFINITELY a period where she seemed "secluded" but there was nothing enchanting or mystical about that at all! :sorry: |
