Could those be lyrics to a new song?

It's lyrics to White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane

UnwindedDreams 04-29-2014 05:30 PM

Why would he quote White Rabbit? Maybe they're singing it for fun or Dave's high!
I'm looking for any hint I can get about what's going on in Nashville!

Dave's obviously having a play on words and referencing the large acoustic bass he's playing...

Now that Dave's tweeting about Stevie I asked him if he could post a song sample like he did with "Everybody Loves You"...We'll see what happens...

Great idea! Hope he does.
I totally forgot that I spent last Easter with Stevie until I saw that pic of her with the bunny ears! (It was at the IYD screening in LA) Great memories. :)

She looks happy & content! Gotta admit, this little pic does makes me salivate for another Stevie solo record! I can't believe 3 years have already flown by since IYD (it does seem like a long time ago.) And probably another year before this project is released (hope I'm wrong) but based on the FM (GH's tour) in the fall, I really can't see a solo album being released before that. I believe Stevie had this planned in 2013 (before Chris came back), as she mentioned in many IYD doc Q&A's in 2012 - that she had already written new songs and had sent them off to Dave. I thrilled to see her back working with Dave and looking so happy & cute!!

I believe that too. She said she had written a bunch of new material. Songs about her mother's death and stuff. I doubt that stuff would be appropriate for Fleetwood Mac.

She is 65. She knows she has limited time.

I agree...I have posted the same thing in another thread...

Now that we know Stevie is working on a record with Dave again it raises a new set of questions...If Stevie had all this planned out last year I would think Mick knew Stevie was going to tour with FM in 2013 and then work on solo Stevie in at least 2014 and perhaps 2015 as well...Now at some point last year Mick sensed Christine wanted to return or could be swayed into returning and when this happened the $$$$$ flashed before his eyes and my guess is he was hopping Christine's return would get Stevie to drop her solo plans and jump on board for another tour and a record...If Stevie had all this planned out last year then I don't blame her one bit for not changing her plans especially if she's made binding commitments...

Yes, it probably wouldn't be literal like you would never know what Illume and EO17 are about. It takes the writer back to something they were doing at the time, running up the stairs and down the hall, but for the listener, it isn't a song about anyone dying. Jane on the other hand sounds like what it's about:distress: .

she is writing with Dave, and her songs are more clear

Seeing Stevie in the studio with Dave again only strengthens my belief that whatever Stevie does with FM Dave will be heavily involved...

Actually this situation seems unique to me. For Mirage/Wild Heart, the band did the album and a tour, and then ALL of them went to work on solo projects. I don't think they were enjoying each other all that much at that point. For TISL/SYW, Stevie's album was coming out and of course she would tour as she had for every one of her previous albums. Ever since she began a solo career, the band has always scheduled recording sessions knowing they can work for a while without Stevie and that she can join them later. This is the first time she has started a project when Fleetwood Mac needed her (and this is assuming that she isn't doing some FM-related work as we speak, which I suspect she is, if for no other reason than Christine's presence in Nashville).

As I posted earlier she may have had this planned and made commitments before there was any hint of Christine's return...

Yes, that's true. But I was just pointing out that I don't think this scenario has played out before.

Yes, she was involved in solo projects that were already underway when Fleetwood Mac convened. She didn't start one after they went into the studio.

I don't think it's that unique. From 1979 to 1989, Stevie was involved 5 Fleetwood Mac albums, including a greatest hits and live album plus 4 solo albums. She is used to juggling projects.

Fleetwood Mac may be the one that started an album knowing full well that Stevie would be starting a solo record at about the same time...

She toured with Petty and Dylan when FM needed her. Yes, her drug rehab needs was beyond her control, but the little side tour wasn't.

That tour was not preplanned but after some calls she decided to go to the other side of the world.

Stevie wasn't in Australia very long and that was when she was promoting RAL...

Lindsey quit the band when they needed him...

After producing and recording the album that they toured him, which was a very successful album. And at least Lindsey LEFT and they replaced him. They weren't just sitting around putting everything on hold.

However, I have said that the band shouldn't have waited for Lindsey from 1982-1987. The comment regarding the Dylan/Petty tour had nothing to do with Lindsey. It had to do with whether Stevie has kept the band waiting before. I said she had and she has.

I never said Lindsey hadn't.

She was recording regularly with FM back then. Since SYW she's shown (and expressed) a strong reluctance to record with the band. Only singing some background vocals for the EP last year. I don't think the situations are comparable in terms of her mindset. Not to mention they actually had a recording contract back then.

I don't buy this theory that this album has long been in the works. That sometime last year she had these mere 2 weeks booked to record an album. I don't think she would agree to the tour this year if she'd already planned to release a solo album. I don't think she would do that knowing it would kill her album commercially without being able to promote it. To me it seems like something she put together knowing she doesn't have a lot of time. And maybe because she's knocking it out so quickly and not laboring over it she's ok with the tour taking precedence.

I think she had a very strong desire to do another solo record with Dave after IYD was finished. Her timeframe was probably a lot wider before Christine returned. Now she had to get creative with her time management. So I agree she most likely didn't plan on recording a new solo album in two weeks in Nashville but had to adapt or not do it at all.

Exactly.
And I don't think she's going to record this and let it sit for two years while touring with FM. I bet we get a release very soon (May). She can promote it for a couple months (May-June), do a few small venue shows (July) and then still have time to rehearse for the tour (August).

As far as recording new stuff for FM, that could be worked out in between, as it's likely to be just another EP anyway.

Jamie

GavinBrown 04-30-2014 10:22 AM

No way will this be out by May...look guys, who is to say they aren't laying down these tracks now for an upcoming fleetwood mac project? Maybe she wanted to lay down some stuff with Dave first before sending it off to the Mac?

If she did what you're suggesting- recorded her album quickly, got it released quickly, then toured smaller venues only performing material from the album, she could get the best critical reviews of her career. However, I doubt Stevie will do any of this. :sorry:

I think in her mind, she just toured with Fleetwood Mac last year, and is resistant to immediately go back to them. We all know how she prefers to vacillate between her two careers. I don't see Stevie getting a solo album out before the Mac tour, but if she does, my hat is off to her.

Mick Fleetwood said that she's in Nashville with Dave to record a solo album. There's an audio recording of him saying that. I have my doubts that's what's going to happen, though. I still feel she's working on Mac demos... or in the very least, her material will get rolled into Fleetwood Mac in the end. It's happened to Lindsey multiple times- it's Stevie's turn now.

san-l-bar 04-30-2014 10:32 AM

Right guys. Who's to say Stevie is actually churning out her solo album now? Isn't it a little presumptuous? I seem to recall that Stevie likes recording demos like they're actual tracks, so perhaps she's just recording demos with Dave because that's where he's at right now? Or maybe shes collaborating with Dave for HIS work. Whether they are working on her solo stuff, his stuff or demos, its all speculation at this point. All we know is they're doing something.

Because when Mick was asked what Stevie was doing in Nashville he replied "She's working on an album" not "She's working on her songs for Fleetwood Mac"

Right. Why are people doubting something out of the horse's mouth??

And why wouldn't she put it out? Why sit on it 2 years?

Neil Young did just that...He recorded his "Prairie Wind" album in Nashville very quickly writing 1 or 2 new songs a day...When the album was finished he rehearsed the songs for a week or two and then debuted the songs live at the Ryman (A few classics were added to round things out) before the album was even out...The whole process was documented in his "Heart Of Gold" DVD...Dave has done a similar thing where he debuts an album at the Belcourt Theater in Nashville...I agree with you that if Stevie were to do anything like this it would be quite shocking but with Dave on board and a short time frame to work with who knows...

As far as FM goes don't be surprised if Dave has a major hand in Stevie's Mac songs as well...
