September 13, 2013 2:35 PM ETEver since Christine McVie quit Fleetwood Mac in 1998, fans have pined for a full-fledged reunion of the band's classic lineup. Now it's finally happening – well, sort of.

As the BBC reports, McVie has agreed to rejoin her bandmates for two shows during the band's upcoming European tour. Singer Stevie Nicks broke the news during an interview with BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour.

Q&A: Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham Reveal Lingering Tensions in Fleetwood Mac

"She is going to come and do a song on the second two shows," Nicks said. "I think it will probably be 'Don't Stop.' I don't know, but she's coming to Ireland to rehearse with us." The BBC was unable to confirm specific details with band representatives.

This news is quite surprising: Last year, during an interview with Rolling Stone, Nicks shared a pessimistic outlook on a potential reunion.

"I would say there's no more a chance of that happening than an asteroid hitting the earth," she said. "She is done. You know when you look in somebody's face and you can just tell? She doesn't want to do it anymore. She doesn't want to fly. She doesn't want to come back to America. When she left, she left. She sold her house, her piano, her car. She went to England and she has never been back since 1998, so it's not really feasible, as much as we would all like to think that she'll just change her mind one day. I don't think it'll happen. We love her, so we had to let her go."

During her Woman's Hour interview, Nicks also reflected on the bond she and McVie shared as bandmates.

"Both of us in a man's world, from the very beginning, we made a pact that we would be a force of nature together. And we were," she says, noting that she "felt powerless" when McVie quit the band. "We had a lot of power when there were two of us. That wasn't really so noticeable to us because we just had it until she left."

Fleetwood Mac's European tour kicks off September 20th in Dublin, Ireland. Their latest EP, Extended Play, was released in May.

or maybe SN thinks they have first 2 shows in Dublin, and second 2 shows in London (and she forgot they have 3 shows in London)?

Exactly! Stevie's grasp of these things (like dates!) is shaky...

Two lines that would describe all this.

I'll be coming home again
Just you wait and see.

This is what I'm figuring that she means but I feel bad for the people that are attending the 1st London show if this is the case. Imagine the thunderous applause she will receive when she walks out on stage.

I'm still not clear why she's taking the trouble to head to Ireland if she isn't playing there. I suppose she will take the ferry, though, so it won't be as much of a strain.

That's the only free time they have to rehearse.

if they gave me their schedules I could plot out time for them to rehearse aside from her going there. Unless she just wants to visit Ireland -- or can't bear to be parted from them another second.

Michele

Heck, they're welcome at my place anytime! Lol

sodascouts 09-14-2013 08:51 PM

If she were to join them for an entire show but only in Europe, I would drop everything and hop on a plane to attend a show, even if I had the worst seat in the house. I never got to see her perform with the Mac... I became a fan just a wee bit too late. I've always regretted that.

This is a start, and I'm desperately hoping for more.

Obviously, I am a BN lover, but even I recognize Fleetwood Mac was better with Christine in the mix.

secondhandchain 09-15-2013 01:28 AM

So I read she is going to be rehearsing with them in Ireland. For one song..probably Don't stop. Why bother? How boring. Just do the whole damn show Chris! Maybe this will be the start of something bigger? Maybe she'll get on stage and the magic will be back for her? Maybe the stage fright will be gone? Maybe she will then rejoin them to record? One can only dream. It definitely seems like she might be getting bored in retirement. Maybe it's the spark of something bigger.
It just hasn't been the same for me since she left.

Well, you've a right to your opinion, but I think you're being a mite harsh. Chris is 70 and whatever makes her happy should go the same for us, too. I would love her to come onto the stage, do the entire concert including performances of SYLM, Why, Brown Eyes, Show me a smile and YMLF, immediately commit to a three-album deal and world tours until she's 80 and remarry John McVie, but by this point in the evening the men in the white suits would have carted both me and her out of the O2.

So Chris, if you're happy doing this (maybe) final little thing for the fans, thank you. There won't be a dry eye in the house.

jcalzaretta 09-15-2013 11:37 AM

I think she should also come out and sing Songbird.

If she comes out for Don't Stop, which is most likely, then all of you who are there, better do everything humanly possible to make sure she stays on stage for the next song, too...Silver Springs. Don't let her go without adding her gorgeous harmonies to that one!! I repeat, DO NOT let her exit the stage!

Oooh yeah, Christine doing her piano intro for Silver Springs. I wish you were here.

People, start chanting to get her out BEFORE Don't Stop. I want her there for World Turning. I don't even like the song, but ... I want her there on the floor with the guys for it, if only briefly, and not just behind the piano for Don't Stop.

Michele

Michelej1, I promise I'll do my best to keep her there (although I don't hold out much hope!) I just hope Chris doesn't stand me up on the 25th and the 27th...

Ha, Keep her there, butter cookie.

I know you must be counting the days. How exciting for fans, even those of us who aren't in the UK. Michele

Cameras and recording devices at the ready both nights! I'll have mine on the 27th just in case...

I think Don't Stop and Songbird are going to be the two. If it's any more than that I'll sure as hell be surprised.

applebucked 09-15-2013 06:32 PM

CHRISTINE! CHRISTINE! CHRISTINE! (x 20000 concert goers + all the people who couldn't make it)

Well, if she does Songbird that will be a triumph in and of itself. Unexpected. I would kiss all of their feet.

Daydreaming here, but how about the London gigs with Chris ending with Farmer's Daughter after Say Goodbye ? Songbird mightn't be quite right as it would detract from Stevie & Lindsey as the current frontline... but what a beautiful chance it would be to hear that three part harmony that we wouldn't really get with Don't Stop, and it would be an ending with all five present on stage and Chris wouldn't be too exposed.

Just a thought!

nicole21290 09-16-2013 08:08 AM

Stevie talks a fair amount about Chris in the latest R4 interview (link/transcript over http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=52600) but thought I'd copy and paste the full discussion about her performing with FM here as well. Not exactly much more than what Jane posted on her twitter account, to be honest...

Will she perform with you while you’re in Britain?

She is going to come and, uh, do a song on the second two shows. I think it’ll probably be Don’t Stop. I don’t know. But she’s coming to Ireland to rehearse with us.

That’ll be great news for everybody.

Yeah.

Yes, I thought they could either do Farmer's Daughter or SYLM, the Dance version, with all of them on the stage.
