I must admit, I got very melancholic seeing this pic. Very touching.

Yep.....brings a lump to the old throat.
She looks so happy to be out in Maui with Mick and co. Lets hope Stevie and Lindsey can work some FM magic on her when she goes to LA.

Ulpian 02-14-2013 04:01 PM

Ok, so I've only seen two photos, but I can't believe how happy and relaxed she looks. :D

With the 2004 solo album, with her reaction to Ken's book (something about reminding her of and restoring her passion for the music) and with this little performance, it seems fairly clear to me that it's the enormous Rumours-lineup machine that 'Fleetwood Mac' had become she was running from, not the music itself.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the recent passings of the Bobs also has something to do with some of this. Maybe she realizes that the time she has left is limited, but she’s still in good health and still has her talents, and that it's silly just to waste them by doing nothing. Hopefully, she also realizes that playing an occasional gig won't kill her!

IM IN SHOCK !!!!

Wonderful pics

Yes, good point. Also the likelihood of being able to comfortably jet over the Atlantic lessens with the decades, whether or not you have a fear of flying, so maybe she saw this as a rare opportunity to see old friends from L.A.

Ya'll it's there! Go to Nickslive to see video!!

michelej1 02-14-2013 04:31 PM

Lovely to hear her voice. Of course, I want to hear that voice with others.

Gooseflesh, Christine.

This has made my year. I know it's only February, but it is amazing to hear her and to know that she did this and that she still sounds Perfect.

Here she is. She sounds great.

SteveMacD 02-14-2013 04:54 PM

My only gripe is that they didn't get the full song...

My dream: "Rumours" band with Rick Vito. No backing singers, no extra musicians. WGAF if it doesn't sound "just like the record". It's a concert. That's kind of the point.

shackin'up 02-14-2013 05:00 PM

Ships. I just choked when I heard her sing.

What's the point of Two leadguitarists where you need rythmguitar backup? No, Christine (or brett) and Neale should be more than Enough.

Fireflies 02-14-2013 05:13 PM

she sounds great, but delicate. i wonder if her voice would be able to withstand fm's tour schedule.

HejiraNYC 02-14-2013 05:19 PM

Still sounds just like buttah. Okay... I am officially crazy for saying this, but I think it's telling that they dropped the key for this. Steven Tyler is perfectly capable of singing it in the original key. Christine probably is too. Stevie and Lindsey? Not so much. So perhaps Christine has been practicing playing the song in a lower key intentionally with the thought that she would eventually be playing it with Stevie and Lindsey? Although she could probably play the original DS in her sleep, playing it on the piano in a different key is tricky; it definitely took some practice.

This is just so surreal- seeing/hearing Christine in 2013. After refusing to join FM onstage for the last two tours, I assumed something must have been amiss with Christine- maybe she was ill/frail or couldn't sing live anymore or can't walk/stand, etc. Or perhaps she had become paranoid about her appearance. But now this- Christine is doing her thing and looking/sounding like the past 15 years didn't even happen. If I were a betting person, I would wager the house that she's going to pop up at one or more of the UK shows.

It doesn't need to withstand FM's tour schedule! She ain't touring!

I disagree. When I heard I was shocked at how little her voice, live, had changed since the Grammys or the Brit Awards. In fact, dare I say it, from that small clip, Christine's voice sounds like it has changed far less than Stevie's which, since 98, has become far more nasal (especially on the SYW tour) and Lindsey's which has lost some more of its range.

However, as Chris is so out of practice, I'm sure she wouldn't be able to do a full tour without straining her vocal chords.

I hate to tell you, but Neale isn't just a rhythm guitarist.

With Rick, they could throw a few Peter Green era songs in the set (making the set longer, NOT taking anything out).

I know, but he plays a lot of rythm in LB soloshows. You don't have to hate telling me anything dude.
You're right about greeny songs, but i'd love it if lindsey took a shot at Two or three of them.

But there used to be YEARS in between tours, so what's the difference?

And yes, they dropped the song a whole step, from E to D.

Agreed. This whole series of events just gives me some faith that Christine will become more involved with the Mac again in some form. What I'm truly hoping for is one last studio album from the Rumours 5. Who knows, maybe this Maui show combined with a couple of UK Mac appearances could goad her into it. :)

I have to wonder though, if this Maui show is Chris dipping her toes back into live performing after being off the stage for 15 years. Start small, without the pressure of band politics or playing for 20,000 people... but with familiar faces there for comfort. There just has to be something in all of this... her spending 3 weeks with Mick in Hawaii, meeting up with John, now reportedly her flying back to LA to visit with Stevie & Lindsey. Maybe I'm just a romantic, but I have to believe the seeds of something are being planted here.

I'm just melting, with my love for this woman. God I love her!!!!!!!!!!!!

michelej1 02-14-2013 06:07 PM

But it's a long time between February and September. If she is warming herself up for something, I don't think it is those far off UK shows.

I don't think she has any intention of touring, but I think they must have something in mind between now and the fall. Michele

I am just confused by all of this. Christine has dispelled two of her great fears very quickly. I'm delighted, but I wonder what has changed. Maybe we will never find out.

For what it's worth, I just cannot see her getting involved in Fleetwood Mac stuff, despite this. I think it's safe playing to a smaller audience in Maui. An arena in a big city with the old buttons being pressed by John, Lindsey or whoever else would be an understandably less appealing prospect, even for one night only.

Ok, the fact that Christine FLEW to Hawaii & got on stage last night after years of thinking we'd seen the last of her publicly & musically kind of undermines my next thought, but I seriously doubt we'll ever see Rick Vito & Lindsey Buckingham on the same stage (those last 2 nights of the BTM tour notwithstanding)

But, then those folks have always seemed to surprise us...even though the "suprises" come at Continental Drift speed.

:D I'm betting on a five-member-lineup album sometime in 2028. Something to look forward to in my middle-age.

Damn you all for making me think something might happen! ;)

I wonder. What if they play the whole of Rumours straight through in a small setting which is filmed and recorded for CD/DVD? Or something like that?

That way, Mick saying "she won't tour" is not a lie, but something still is happening. My only thought is that Lindsey (and maybe John) would object on the basis that the four-piece would be undermined creatively by bringing Chris back, and audiences on the tour would expect her. Also, the pressure on them/her from the label and managers to rejoin would be immense if she did that kind of one-off thing.

My instinct is still that this is just an anomaly, but I'll be very happy if I'm wrong.

CADreaming 02-14-2013 06:36 PM

I noticed a camera guy in the right corner filming...

i thought that as far as we know they don't have a label. i can see various managers' pressure but does Christine even have a manager at this point? i would think that she is doing whatever she wants, and the only pressure she may feel would be the pressure of some old friends or wanting to have some fun and experience the stage and audience reaction again.

She is still represented, yes. I think it's Martin Wyatt. Mick referred in a UK interview recently to the fact that she is still represented by some form of management when 'legacy' decisions are being made.

Thanks for sharing that, David! Christine looks gorgeous.

Haven't had a chance to watch the video of "Don't Stop" yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

I completely respect Christine's desire to never tour again (if that is indeed how she still feels), but I desperately want her to record some new music with the band. It just isn't the same without her.
