"Shakin' The Cage" was the official title of the 1987/88 tour in support of the Tango In The Night album. It just is kind of suspicious that Mick used that same title for a subsequent Zoo album, too.

I don't know what the freakin hell you are on about. Watch the Mirage video again and look to the right of the stage - sort of at an angel right of Mick. There are 2 extra guitar players, 4 backup singers and the guy who does backup drums.

Are you sure you watched the Mirage video? There are no extra players, besides Ray Lindsey who you see playing acoustic guitar on Go Your Own Way. There certainly isn't another drummer let alone four back-up singers?! Where would they hide them on that stage? Bizarre.

i liked the basic lighting system they used on Mirage... lots of blue... and those big flashing lights on the side.... not to mention the air blowing christine's hair while she sang :laugh:

I have to admit, I really like this too for some odd reason. However, I think Chris's wardrobe (not to mention that garish make-up) needed A LOT of help. Chris is an attractive lady, why did she opt for such a frumpy look?

Stevie has clown make-up on too, I guess it's "performance" make-up but it looks ghastly to me. Lindsey's make-up isn't that great either :laugh: I think Mick was even wearing some eye-liner. What was WITH the make-up on this tour? :laugh:

Nope, couldn't have been. They didn't have any "hangers on" on that tour. Lindsey's guitar tech, Ray, played acoustic on two or three numbers (GYOW, Second Hand News, Hold Me...maybe Gypsy, too), but that was it.

Ray plays acoustic on Gypsy and GYOW. I've heard that the keyboard tech plays on Tusk. That's it, afaik.

There are NO backup singers on the Mirage video. As Sharon said, Ray Lindsey plays guitar on Go Your Own Way & Gypsy. He also played on Second Hand News, but that song isn't on the video. That's it. You're probably mixing it up with the Tango or Dance DVD. Anybody & everybody are on those DVDs.

I've always loved that too. I didn't like her make-up though, either on the Mirage tour or her solo tour 2 years later. She looked fantastic again on the Tango tour.

That's one of the perks of being the keyboardist: You can easily hook an electric fan to your stand or your rig. The drummer can do that, too (but for some weird reason, usually doesn't).
Yeah, that Nefertiti look was sort of retro '60s (think early Streisand) & just didn't quite capture the Chris I know & love.
She was the dope on the Tango tour! (& the tour after that)

Also, I'm not certain of the exact dates of either event, but I seem to recall that the Mirage concert was filmed just a couple of weeks before Robin died. So, in addition to be sick and all coked-up, I'm sure Stevie had a lot of heavy distracting stuff on her mind when this show was filmed. The combination of all of the above surely would have affected her performance.

Yes, indeed, priestofnothing. Anderson died just two to three weeks before these shows (as well as Irvine Meadows, Oakland, Denver, Baton Rouge, Cedar Falls & Austin). In fact, my theory is that the terrifying stress & the grief brought on the pneumonia (as grief is commonly known to do).

Lots of things to think about when one thinks about those extraordinary, whiskey-soaked vocals of Stevie's on the Mirage Tour, as well as her absolutely extraordinary way (completely new that year) of bridging a word or syllable in a descending motive across an interval structure that went from the 3rd tone of the Dorian mode to the 1st, & then from the 2nd to the 7th below the 1st. That motif in Stevie's singing actually began in 1982, & continued through the 1986 tour. It was at its height during the 1983 tour.

I totally agree that this video kicks major ass! The bad editing is annoying but somewhat forgiveable because the performances are so excellent, IMO.

Speaking of the video, I have wanted video files of The Chain, GYOW and SOTM for so long ( I have them on video and dvd, but not on the computer), can any kind soul out there upload them to yousendit ? Pretty please? :wavey:

I enjoy the Mirage Video because it has some songs never performed since then or rarely perfomed since that video. It also has no back up orchestra to distract the band.

So agree with you. Mirage is outstanding. I got many a friend hooked on FM after seeing this video.

And I will add that I recently purchased that Brazilian Import of the Mirage Concert on DVD. The video quality is superb, audio, not so good, but decent. I heard so many different takes on this release, but it is pro quality (except for the incorrect cover art/photo).

And who could forget Stevie's "no panties" flash!

Oh yes, the Mirage Tour Video is just excellence! It's not perfect and that's what makes it awesome.

So Gypsy is a little strained on the vocals and Lindsey gets a bit too friendly with the microphone during Not That Funny...this all adds up to this being one hell of a video. I can certainly see how someone could get turned onto the Mac just by seeing it.

I know! I gaze in amazement during those close-ups. She has never been hotter.

Let's not forget Lindsey's lack of 'panties' either. :]

Actually, I can't really enjoy the video because I spend the whole time figuring out which of the two shows the scenes are from. (since I was at both shows that they filmed)

The easiest way to tell is that when they glare at each other, it's one night; when they smile it's the other. After 25 years, I can't remember which show was the "happy" show and which one was the "I'm going to kill you as soon as the show's over" show (the first night or second night). But, each show had a diametrically opposite vibe from beginning to end. At least they were consistent throughout each show.

The filmed night was 21st October (I remember this cos its my birthday). I have both shows on mp3 somewhere and there are some slight differences although the two gigs are very similar in sound and style. But the Mirage Live gig was the 21st.

That one you posted is indeed from 10/20/82, but it was not one of the LA shows. That one is from Oakland. I believe the two LA shows at the Forum were on 10/21 and 10/22, which are the two concerts that were spliced together to come up with the Mirage Video.

To the best of my knowledge, I don't think either of those shows have been leaked yet. Not saying they don't exist, but I haven't seen them anywhere or heard of anyone finding them recently.

In many way and to me, this live performance of this song was the last of a great era. Check La Nicks signing to John M. and then that wild dance at the end :eek: Also, she is so fukcing HOT it burns my eyes to see it!

I mean they are way off key and her voice sounds way rough - but give me that performance over a slick one any day!
