This was my statement when the story about Stevie, Dave Stewart and Christine going to Nashville first broke. Stevie has been wanting to work on her next solo project for the last couple years--which was delayed by her mother's death. Now that she's had time to grieve and only has a short time before they will all be fully involved with FM again (yay!!), if she doesn't move on her project now, she may lose the opportunity to do so.

It sounds like she's finally feeling inspired to write songs again, especially since she wanted to do a tribute to her mom. I think this is a really good sign: if she's working on her own projects, she will also be inspired to write for FM again. We lost the window for BN, let's hope this works for her and that it will lead to wonderful music (solo and group projects).

This is exactly what I think. It's not a slight to FM or the return of Christine, which I think she is really happy about, as well as us fans. But, I strongly feel that she had planned on doing other projects and was totally looking forward to that.

And I'll third that. As happy as I am about Chris's return, I've said all along that the timing was terrible. If she had re-joined a year earlier, 2013 could have been the big reunion and greatest hits tour. Now that will happen in 2014, which makes last year's tour kind of.....I hate to use the word pointless, but now that they are older and have limited time for the projects they want to do, this hasn't been terribly efficient.

Thought this might be a good time to bring up once again what Stevie said in JANUARY 2014 because I've seen some talk of 'but promoting it!?'

"We'll be back on the road at the end of next summer. So it's like - and I'm going, I'll do different stuff for the next four months. So you just keep going, you just keep moving...

I can just tell you I'm looking forward to two different tours next year and I'm looking forward to American Horror Story..."

I'd rather her save the material for a new Mac album. However, if she's writing tracks for both her solo and a Mac release then I guess that's OK. But if the Mac are gonna get her 'leftovers' from this project then I'm gonna be a bit furious. She had no new tracks for the EP and we finally have a real excuse for a new album thanks to Christine and the last time all five were involved, she was hardly there and we got subpar material because of it (I'll excuse Seven Wonders but the others are garbage compared to the majority of her written work).

With all this great Mac news, I just don't really know how I feel about this. I'm not really all that excited for it compared to how excited I am for a full-on Mac reunion. However, more Stevie songs is more Stevie songs and I guess I should be grateful? I just hope she brings her A game this time to the band.

This is fantastic news! Thank you for the initial report on it...I am totally excited for another solo album so (relatively) quickly. I HOPE a Mac album comes out too, but for me, personally, the thought of another solo album is thrilling beyond belief!!

This is truly fantastic news!! :blob2: I am thrilled beyond words about FM's upcoming tour. But I feared that Christine's unexpected return would sidetrack Stevie from recording any solo work for the foreseeable future. Regardless of whether her solo project gets released this summer, or after the band's tour, we're looking at the possibility of both a SN and FM album within the next 12-18 months. And that's more than I ever would have hoped for.

On a related note, my understanding has been that Stevie has one album remaining on her WB contract. But an anonymous poster on fleetwoodmacnews.com referenced some rumors that she had resigned a new contract, requiring both a new studio album and yet another greatest hits compilation. Regardless, I'm excited to find out what's in the pipeline.

Another greatest hits? You have to be kidding. It's not deserved.

It's hard to see how there's a market for another compilation. If there's any truth to that rumor, my only hope would be that it would include a good number of outtakes/B-sides.

Maybe this is one of the things that Stevie learned from Rod Stewart while doing those mini-tours with him. How to balance recording solo albums and getting the "home office" band to tour playing songs from your solo album at the same time.

Here's the scenario:

Stevie's recording a SOLO album, BUT, not doing a solo TOUR to back it up...what she does is get Fleetwood Mac to play the songs she wants to promote from the album.

It worked for Rod Stewart for about 4 or 5 years juggling his solo albums & touring with Faces (and Faces performing songs from Rod Stewart's solo albums after they're released). He didn't have to do a solo tour until after Faces finally called it a day (which was only after Ronnie Wood joined the Stones full-time).

So, maybe the new Fleetwood Mac album will be "sans Stevie" as far as songwriting & lead vocals are concerned, but she'll have a concurrent solo album out & performing the "hit potential" songs from it WITH Fleetwood Mac. It'll give Lindsey & Christine more room for their material on the FMac album, too.

I can very well see this as a compromise solution. All she has to do is get Lindsey to buy in...(by getting him to play on a few songs on her solo album...just like Rod got Ronnie Wood to play on most of his solo albums as well as Faces albums; there was already a "connection" with the material)...I think Mick will do anything to keep her "happy" & in the band. Seems that Christine may have done some keyboard parts on Stevie's songs while in Nashville, as well. So, Christine will have some vested interest in playing the songs live, too.

There is no way a Fleetwood Mac album will be released without Stevie Nicks.

i love your idea. although i would be shocked if all the people we are talking about here are that smart. :p

but who knows? looking historically now, it seems Stevie has pulled the wool - or chiffon as the case may be ;) - over the boys in FM several times already, so maybe she's actually much smarter than she pretends to be. if it hadn't before, it suddenly becomes very clear now that while she pays lip service to FM her solo career has been her priority for many years now, and she's been highly successful in putting FM projects off for years in a row under one or another excuse... while keeping FM on the back burner and pulling them out if/when needed.
