OOTC was still in production then. Albeit, it's fourth or fifth year of production :laugh: Seriously, TITN was a huge success. I think based on that, LB thought OOTC would be too. When OOTC was rleased in June 1992, it received huge critical acclaim and LB took it on the road, where it flopped commercially and cost him, according to reports, a pretty penny. Four years later, he is getting ready for the commercial venture called The Dance, which he has flat out said was about the money. Then, SYW is done because, or at least in significant part because, LB's solo record was dropped by the label for whatever reason.

So, I think my conclusion that LB comes back to FM when he wants/needs commercial success is warranted :shrug:

But, I agree that FM would have taken him back after and before BTM. FM never wanted him to leave.

Your conclusion seems inchoate to me. There have been plenty of times when LB has wanted/needed commercial success and not gone back to FM, because the circumstances were not right.

In 1990, if he only wanted commercial success, he could have gone back to the fold then. He didn't have to wait until 1997. The theory that he appeared at the BTM concerts to bolster his flagging career doesn't make sense to me, since he could have gone back to the group then, if that's all he was interested in. He also could have gone back right after OOTC "flopped." Yes, the tour cost him money. He could have used commercial success at that time, but he didn't go back to FM to get it.

Stevie says that not only did she call and get him to do the Clinton inauguration, but that he was not inclined to do it -- or at least that's what he told her. He needed persuading. He didn't leap at the chance and try to use the national publicity to launch another solo record or line his pockets. If he had, the band probably would have reunited before 1997.

While he was motivated by the money and exposure The Dance would bring, if that had been his only motivation, he never would have left FM in the first place and wouldn't have waited 10 years to return.

Of course, he's not adverse to making money, but if that's all he wanted and all he thought the band was good for, I think there would have been a lot more FM albums and tours including Lindsey than there have been in these 30 years. At this point in his life things are different. Maybe he does only want the money now. But before now, I can't think he only came back for the money, because if it were only about the money, he never would have gone away or have stayed away so long, in the first place.

LB is not and never has been only about money. But, to make his records and live the way he does, he needs to have commercial success. So, my point was that in 1990, he had no reason to believe that OOTC would not be a commercial success. His last two solo records sold well and Mirage and TITN were huge sellers as well. Finally, Big Love was a hit single in more than one country. So, I think he would have never gone back to FM in 1990.

I am not saying that in 1990 he want back for those two shows for public exposure. I think he went because he missed FM, esp. La Nicks. The latter being my speculation only.
