UPDATE

The April issue of ICE magazine lists:

April 27th: Fleetwood Mac - Live PBS Special (DVD) Warner Brothers

I do consider ICE a good source but I doubt this will be the title, who knows though? We can hope it gets released then anyways. :)

I can ALMOST guarantee that that date will not be sticking... the May 4 one is looking more likely, but- it's great to see that in print!

macko814 03-25-2004 12:45 PM

The fan club did say that Soundstage would be aired in April of 2004. Do you think they were just wrong?

hayley 03-25-2004 12:56 PM

I thought the now generally accepted airdate was June 17, or something more like that. It's not happening in April. PBS is tied up right now with Harry Connick and don't generally combine exclusive pop act promotions and specials in the same month.

Aside from that, here's a reposting of my previous post in this thread where I tried to explain as long-winded as possible why I don't think this release doesn't really have that much to do with PBS anyways.

I can't shed light on what's actually going to happen with these releases, only the generality of what happens with product similar to these in most cases.

Everyone's assuming too much about these being from the Soundstage special and associated with PBS. Just because this was filmed under the Soundstage banner doesn't mean they have the rights to distribute these videos unless the band signs off on it. Why let Soundstage and PBS distribute them when they can let Warners? I'm sure when they entered into their agreement with PBS and the concert was filmed, they knew that they would be retaining the rights to the special.

Soundstage is a relatively small potatoes show- they are by far one of the bigger acts to ever appear on the show, and their appearance was likely contingent on the fact they'd have control of the product, and would have the built-in promotion via PBS right there.

What I'm trying to say is- just because this footage is supposed to be used for a Soundstage special doesn't mean it will be EXCLUSIVE to Soundstage. It makes NO difference when PBS airs this, because FMac more than likely is in control of the DVD and audio product from the concert. The PBS airdates will have relatively little to do with when the disc will come out.

Having said that, I'm sure the 5/4 date will not stick. DVD product often gets shuffled around schedules due to production issues and relative non-importance. But this is a relatively large release, being Fleetwood Mac. Honestly, I would estimate it landing more like 5/25.

Also I think It wouldn't be too clever to try to sell a concert DVD, when everyone could tape the concert before while airing on TV. The other way around seems more likely. The fans will buy the dvd then, unwilling to wait imo.

Darlene

You were there?! AWESOME! How did you find out about it? Was it highly publicized?

I wrote Soundstage and they responded that Lindsey's solo show would be aired sometime in the Spring. At the time it was too early to know which PBS stations would air it, but they suggested I check with my local PBS station in early Spring to see if they have scheduled it yet.

This is the first I have heard of the FM Soundstage show. Maybe PBS stations will air both concerts back-to-back sometime.

Several Ledgies attended the show, myself included. When the taping was announced, the tickets for Lindsey's were available to the public until they ran out, and it was discussed quite a bit on the boards.

It was undoubtedly the coolest fan thing EVER. I really pray that they kept songs like "Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind" in there. I'm worried they'll cut them for the generic FM ones.
