I think dissention was referring to 'TISL,' rather than 'SYW.'

My theory is that the guys in the band will take time off to rest, relax, and spend with their families (as they should), and that Stevie will stay true to form by going back into the studio to record a solo album not long after coming off the road.

Which I'm all for, I have to say, since I'm chomping at the bit for a new Stevie solo.
BUT... I really hope she either doesn't tour, or does a very short tour (ala the 'White Winged Dove Tour'), so she can get back into the studio with FM, ASAP.

Oh, I hope she tours! I got into FM and became a Stevie fan a little late in the game, so I have yet to see a Stevie solo show.

But did TISL really take a year in the studio?

Heck, it took her six years to make TISL. :laugh:

It took her about a year to do SYW, too. Let's not forget that she doesn't just go in and record her vocals and leave. She goes in and does her vocals, gives input on the mixing, gives input on the production, helps in determining which songs go on the album, and so on. If you count the month she took to write the four songs in December '01, she worked up until about December '02, up until they left Lindsey to mix the album and party in Hawaii on John's boat. :)

Yeah, both the band AND Stevie have slowed their pace in recent years.
I didn't really get into the Mac until the 1990s, but I often think how great it would have been to be a fan in the late 1970s or early 1980s, when a new Mac or solo album came out just about every year.

Those were the days! I'd feel so spoiled if we got that much output now.

He also does cool videos and even tv commercials. Like Madonna he plays to the current music environment. I don't know if FM members nixed it or the label didn't want to put much promotion into it, but a couple of good videos could have helped a lot, preferably videos that didn't focus on the band as much, but that showcased the songs in an interpretive way. The EJ one mentioned before is a good example.

BTW, in case anyone's interested- for the week ending March 21st (March 15-March 21 soundscan week), SYW had a very nice 230% jump in scans.

Surprised how the documentary impacted it the week after we thought it would.

How many did it sell that week, and did it enter back into the top 200??


I think it was probably Reprise who opted out of doing a video. After doing 2 videos for Stevie for TISL, and putting the money into that, and nothing really coming out of it they probably in part based their decision on that...VH1 was reluctant to play the Stevie videos very much at all...and I dont think a Fleetwood Mac video would do TOO well either

Yeah, but don't the artists pay for the video mostly themselves? They probably didn't want to waste the money because music videos don't do **** these days. Just look at how little the Peacekeeper video was played. I only saw it once and it was around 3 am!

It is FAR from entering back into the top 200. It sold 2,893. Week before it was 899, up a whopping copies from 890.

The videos are a moot point. Dissention's right- it would've been a complete and total waste of money. Videos are not smart promotional tools for a band like Fleetwood Mac. Period.

The artist will get backcharged for the video - in other words, the label pays up front, and the money is held against sales profits. So yes, the artist pays.

It was probably smart in some ways to not do many videos. But, on the flip side, if the band did a very innovative or unusual video, it may have gotten played for it's novel apsects. But, we aren't dealing with a bunch of risk takers, as is evidenced by many things we have all discussed. Also, the finances are very important to some members of the band. There are mansions to be built, babies to be raised and schooled, young wives to give jewelry, and the like..lol. That isn't conducive to popping 250k for a video.

Do you know the exact number of albums sold up to today? Last thing I read a few months ago was about ca 810000 copies in the US. What about now?

And btw are FM, Rumours and Tusk back in the charts due to the reissues? Anyone knows about that?:wavey:

Current RTD is 814,619.

The re-issues won't impact until we get next week's charts on Wednesday.

I love Howard. I never thought I'd be a Howard fan until I moved to a city where he's carried and started listening. He's awesome. And I'm a 21 year old female, so who knows what that means.

Oh, I adore him. Not only does he have balls, but he can back up everything he says and doesn't cower away. ABC just offered him a job to do news specials a la Barbara Walters for next year. :laugh:
