I got an idea: Enjoy the streaming, and buy the damn CD next week! Carne Vaca Said:

Excuse me, I am enjoying it. But I live on a fixed income. I have spent hundreds on buying their C.Ds. But where I live we normally don't get things like this unless we specail order it.
Then you pay over thirty bucks. When the special Say you will C.D came out, it was 38 bucks. Even in the big chain stores which is one and a half hours away, list it at $28
So when the price comes down I will buy the "Damn" CD.

This was such a nice suprise to find in my in box this morning! I second the love of this version of "Silver Springs" and also "YMLF" the ending is fabulous! Love "NGBA" too!

Wasn't crazy about GYOW but don't mess with the best on that one IMO! (the one we all know and love). I have yet to find a better version of that one than the Rumours original.

I haven't listened to it all but it's very nice. Can't wait for the Cds next Tues!

My favorite is this "Butter Cookie" thing from Chris. This is the best thing I've heard from Fleetwood Mac in decades. I don't think I've ever heard anything so beautiful as this. This one really excites me. I expect I'll be playing it on repeat for weeks.

Only Hit Music sent out the Tusk package I ordered today. I've been listening to that one, too. Did anyone else hear it yet? Basically, most of the stuff is either the same stuff we have, or slight variations on it. A couple of interesting new things are included, too. My favorite is "Kiss & Run," which stupidly fades out after only two minutes when the band is still singing & playing. Dumb production decision, that.

There's been so much great stuff surfacing among the fans for the past four or five years in beautiful quality (& years before that in less good sound quality) that it would have been nearly impossible for Rhino -- despite their good intentions -- to equal it, let alone exceed it. Sure enough, they really haven't been able to surpass what the fans have been illegitimately passing around for a long time now. Fans remain the best source of vault goodies; the Rhino releases haven't changed that.

But I give Rhino credit for at least doing *something* with these goodies after all these years, when the band itself totally ignored its vaults.

Another letdown for me is the liner notes. I was really looking forward to a couple of savvy critics from the old generation (like Parke Puterbaugh & David Wild) scouring through the annals of the recording studios the band used, & compiling a really thorough, anecdotally natured essay for each Rhino release. Unfortunately, what really happened is that a couple of good writers just thought that all they had to do was bone up on Mick Fleetwood's 1990 book & rehash it in slightly altered form. No new insights at all in these liner notes about the recording process, the unreleased material or even about the band dynamics. Bummer, bummer, bummer . . . a totally wasted opportunity to treat Mac with the same seriousness & dedication & zeal that Dylan, Springsteen, Led Zep & others are treated with.

I'm NOT...

going to listen to the audio streams because I will then have to go and compare the bonus material with the tons of material that I already have (Which will be a big Pain-in-the-ass...Which it STILL will be next week.)

Btw, This may seem slightly off topic, but what is Rhino Records mailing/physical address?

Butter Cookie = Sooner Or Later

This song sounds a lot like "Sooner or Later" off "Time." Anyone?

bangdrum 03-16-2004 08:13 PM

I LOVE Doesn't Anything Last! I also think the second version of GDW is really cool; it's very different from the final version. I almost didn't recognize it. Butter Cookie is not at all what I was expecting; it's great! Instrumental NGBA is one of the coolest things in the world. I haven't gotten to the last two songs yet, so can't say anything about those.

I don't think I've actually posted before (I know I've been registered for a while), so Hi to everyone! :)

Jess
