Huh? Duh? A large part of the charm of that song is the two-part harmony between Lindsey and Stevie! If anything, Sharon could fill in as a third voice, adding the high key harmonies that everyone seems to think that Stevie can't attain. Or have them do what they do in a lot of old songs...drop a key...How can anyone reasonable expect them to fully recreate the studio version anyway! That would be like wishing for a time machine. They can do that song! They can do any song they want to -- it just takes a little adapting to compensation for 25 years worth of living. And they do that at every show!

How do you know that? Not enough production? What does that mean?

That's a debunked urban myth. People thought Fleetwood Mac's final performance of "Sara" was at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, NJ, on November 16, 1990. They thought the band actually opened with it. Finally, back in 1999 on the Mac newsgroup, a reg named John (Fntom99) posted to the thread to say that he saw that show & that they opened with the "In the Back of My Mind/The Chain" medley, & that they didn't play "Sara" at any point.

So I think the last performances of "Sara" were on the European 1988 tour -- Sweden, London, Germany.

Urban myths die hard, though. This particular one is still making the rounds on Web boards. I saw it on a message board yesterday.

Plus, it doesn't help that Nicksfix has the following listed under the BTM setlist section:

Quote:

Additional Goodies: At *ONE* performance in New Jersey, Stevie opened the show with what appears to have been the last "live" performance yet of "Sara".
So that's not exactly helping the situation.

Ever since I first saw that, I didn't believe they opened one show with Sara. That kind of "mixing it up" is completely out of character for any incarnation of this band since the Rumours tour. Even then, they didn't alter anything too drastically.

As for songs I'd like to hear, I'd love to see them try Thrown Down or Smile At You, although I don't really think either one would translate that well live. EFO would be fun and I think could work...Storms could work along the lines of BC.

I dunno, I wish they would just attempt some of these. They might be pleasantly surprised with something.

Read either Bob Aguirre's or Hoppy Hodge's Q&A (can't remember exactly which had it) for the set list...a few surprises!

"I Don't Want To Know" is a great song - I vote that they bring that one into the mix.

It's simply that Storms is mostly just acoustic guitar with maybe a little keyboard...I haven't heard it for a while and I rarely listen to it, but I know it doesn't have a lot of instrumentation going on. Kind of like Landslide I guess. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the song is stripped down...they didn't do some elaborate studio thing that mixes all these different things together like Everybody Finds Out, which is why I think they won't do this song. I don't think it's a LACK of production, it's just that they didn't do a lot with the song.

I don't think that they ever for a moment thought about including "Storms" in this live show. Which is an absolute SHAME because it is probably the best song Stevie ever wrote and it should be perfomed live. This theory is only massively supported by the fact that she pulled out "Beautiful Child" ( a ****ing masterpiece in its own right), and it has been the {STUNNER-HIT} of the tour.

I disagree. "Storms" can be best served by the current FM tour environment. THEY HAVE THREE FANTASTIC GUITARISTS??!! Could you imagine Carlos Rios, Neale Heywood and Lindsey sitting on stools (or pillows- whatever) playing all the intricate parts to "Storms", with Stevie singing???? Broken hearts......

She relies too much on that song to get the crowd going...EFO obviously has the same stamina and energy and it's new....so come Stevie let everyone find out what the hell it is you fear they're going to find out!!!
I couldn't have said this better myself.... 'Nuff said, my friends. Stevie needs to get a clue and get into that energy. I remember in L.A. when she did "Fall From Grace" and it was alllllll 1975 Rhiannon all over again (KILLER!!!). I think EFO would be the artistic "jones" that would push her over the top on this tour.

As I've said before, Crystal would be great as a duet.

Jake, I don't think at this point that Stevie would have ANY problem with singing "Fireflies"- and they definitely should do it. Why the f*ck they haven't done "Crystal" at this point is completely beyond me....

This BLOWS!!!!! Stevie obviously does not have the confidence to continue playing new material. I've read it in interviews and I've heard it from her mouth. Why would she prefer to **** up a great song like "Gypsy" (where she won't even sing the bridge) instead of introducing something that would inspire her ("Everybody Finds Out" or "Running Through the Garden")???? I just don't believe in that.... When I saw Stevie during the Enchanted tour, the most magickal moment for me was when she sang "Garbo".... I was FLOORED!!!! Along with "Rose Garden". I don't know what to say..............

I just want more good songs live.... is that so wrong????

It's not wrong. If agreeing with you is wrong...I don't want to be right (lol...wasn't that song?!)

You hit all the right points. I feel your pain.

I don't want to be a nag, but you completely contridict yourself. (I guess the lawyer in me is coming out).

You say Storms wouldn't be appropriate live because it's so stripped down like Landslide?? With that you're essentially saying that Landslide wouldn't be good live! lol And what's wrong with a spare acoustic, intimate song? Does every concert song have to be a big production? Sometimes less is more!

Regarding Everybody Finds Out...One of the probable reasons they haven't performed this song is because of all the "elaborate studio thing that mixes all these different things together."

Songs live

I would like to hear Crystal (but I also prefer the Lindsey version from the B/N album). It would be great as a duet! She could do Seven Wonders and several of her rockers from the Say You Will album. And of course, FROZEN LOVE!!! Basoon and all!

One thing I like about live shows is the possibility of rearrangement. If a band plays all of their songs EXACTLY as they did in the studio for the album, I could just listen to the cd. I love how Lindsey "redoes" some of his songs for concerts...it is fresh, e.g. Big Love, Go Insane, etc. So, no matter the production elements on an album, a song can ALWAYS be played live, even if it is just an acoustic version or however else they would like to present it. Heck, they could even try Hold Me again but done a different way!!!! I would love that!

Does anyone know why some of the songs were removed from the setlist following a few performances? Or why Stevie doesn't want to sing Sara?

Oh, I think I read some time back about how Stevie didn't like "I Don't Want to Know" because it was used on Rumours as a replacement for "Silver Springs". Is that true?

Thanks.

I'm not sure as to why "Destiny Rules" and "Running Through the Garden" were dropped from the current tour. I can maybe understand that "Destiny Rules" just wasn't exciting live. Maybe they thought it was boring. I didn't think that was case with "RTTG" though. Beats me....

Stevie has said that "Sara" isn't performed anymore because it just doesn't transfer from the studio to live very well...Really doesn't explain why it was performed solid on 4 tours (Tusk-Bella Donna-Mirage-Wild Heart). I guess because the song was a current hit in the beginning and then they felt that they had no choice but to perform it. Anyway, there may be other reasons too....maybe simply that Stevie hasn't rediscovered it yet.

"Landslide" was absent from the set for 8 years. It was last performed on the Mirage tour and then it reappeared on the BTM tour and she even commented before the song that she thought everyone missed it and that's why they brought it back.

"Rhiannon" was absent for parts of the Tango tour and TOSOTM tour. As a matter of fact, when i saw them/her live on those tours they didn't perform it. I guess i was in the wrong city at the wrong time.

Yes, "I Don't Wanna Know" was the replacement song for "Silver Springs". Stevie has referred to it as a "fun little guitar song" but also as an "i don't care song....and i don't write too many i don't care songs"

I was actually grateful and quite impressed that they gave Rhiannon a rest for a while. I thought, "finally they figured out that not every concert tour has to have Rhiannon in the set!" I saw those tours and didn't miss the song at all -- the shows didn't suffer for its absence.

Noteably, Stevie didn't begin performing Landslide on her solo tours until the TimeSpace tour in 1991, when she closed the show with it....an excellent closer!

Of course I would love to hear some of her lesser know songs especially Storms. I think I Don't Wanna Know would be great for her and Lindsey to do also.

I agree. But then again, I have a feeling she would only stick with the familiar even if she did a song for the "dyed in the wool" fanatics. She's more comfortable doing the classics and trying to appease everyone by singing the familiar songs. The last time she was daring was when she recorded "Stand Back." In 1983.

I can understand dropping "Running Through The Garden" because to do the song justice live, it needs to have that fiery intensity the album version has. The Columbus show's version was a half-assed performance. But "Destiny Rules" is an easy song to sing even for a male baritone singer, so I don't think that tune would strain her voice too much.

"Everybody Finds Out" would not stand a chance of getting into the set list because Stevie would only do it half-assed if at all. Besides, the band would have to work around the sudden change from the first "she's done it a thousand times" to "When love starts out in the darkness." They also couldn't do that vocal distortion in the version on the Say You Will record.

I definitely think "Crystal" could be done live (though I think Buckingham Nicks did it in their shows).

"Straight Back" and its layered vocals would be difficult to approximate live unless Sharon and Mindy or Sharon and Jana took over parts of them. That's a shame because it's a great hidden gem of a song.

I would have liked to hear "Freedom" live. That would have kicked.

"Smile At You" is already watered down enough on Say You Will. It would be saturated by comparison on tour.

I get very agitated when I see comments like this. Who is anyone to say what the band can and can't play live, at least technically? Unless you are in support band ---and know the technical challenges and political climate-- why speculate and inflict such limits?

Anyone who is familiar with the live performances of the band through the years knows very well that the live versions of their songs are very different from their studio versions. This was especially true in the years when it was just the five of them...and not an eight piece support band.

Just because a song performed live might not sound exactly like the studio version doesn't invalidate it!!! If that were the case, in 1979 we'd say "Oh they can't perform Tusk without the marching band." Or this song without that part etc...

I prefer not to hear a carbon copy of a studio version in concert. I like that, as Lindsey has mentioned, how they've had to adjust and change and strip down the songs in concert. As such, I hardly think they would discount playing Everybody Finds Out for the reasons you stated. A good song is a good song, with or without the studio embelishment. Still, this is all for naught. We'll never hear that song live....for reasons other than yours.

And for the record, I'd love to see the whole album performed live. I'd find nothing boring or "non-transferable" about it!

Oh, by the way...DestinyRules...welcome to the Ledge! lol I hope you're not offended by my comments. I'm a friendly soul...but very passionate about the band, and like to challenge conventional opinions.
