You know, I actually said about 14 years ago that I wish they'd all retire from touring, and record more freakin' albums!!!
Do two big concerts... film them... release them on VHS & DVD... then get back into the studio!

But then, I'm not a concert-goer, so I guess that's why I feel that way.

For the record, friends of mine who attended 'SYW' shows and early 'TISL' shows (should her performances during and right after her bout with that bronchial infection, and those directly after 9/11, really be held against her?), raved about Stevie's performances.

And my cousin and her husband, who attended the OKC 'SYW' show, still can't stop talking about Stevie.

It's been my experience that it's really only those who've been analyzing her every movement over the past 29 years, who expect more (too much?), and are therefore let down.

Familiarity does breed contempt, they say.

Johnny, I would just like to say that I love your posts. They always have something positive in them.

But dissention, it is obvious you are a Stevie fan, but I have been on this board for almost a year now and I have only heard you criticize Stevie. I swear I haven't seen more then a couple of semi-positive posts about her. I guess it really doesn't matter though.... It just confuses me. :confused:

But I do not want Stevie to retire from the road. I think she is great! Of course, the Stevie I know is the mellow laid back Stevie on the Dance video, when I first became a fan. And that is the Stevie I love.

I haven't been analyzing her every movement for the past 29 years (I'm barely that old ;), but I have read a lot about her stage antics (for lack of a better word). I saw her on the Enchanted tour, TISL tour, and SYW, and each time she hardly moved from the mic. I'm not being overly critical or over analyzing, it's just a fact, and I was a bit let down after reading so much about how much she supposedly danced and twirled. At this point, I'm not expecting to see her twirl and dance. But I would like to see what she used to be like on stage. Can you recommend a DVD or video that would show that aspect of her performances? So I can see what I missed out on

Did anyone else go to the first Atlanta show this year? I want to know if I just made up in my head Stevie dancing and twirling all night. Maybe I was just so excited, I don't know. Most of that night is like a really good dream- I can't remember that much about it. I do remember a killer Standback, some woman's bra hanging from Lindsey's Mic stand, and an annoying Mick solo. But that is all I remember. That and of course, having the best time of my life! :)

I can completely understand that... and I'm not saying that I wouldn't also love to see Stevie "cut loose" more often again.
I became a fan during the 'Rock A Little' era, so those wild, manic performances were part of my vision of who Stevie Nicks is.
But I just think it's better to enjoy what we've got now, and not worry too much about what used to be or what could be. :)

Not that we've all directly witnessed each of those years, but we've at least all heard about them, or read about them, or watched them on some video... so we have created an idea of how Stevie should act on stage, and want her to live up to that.

Which is why I think my various friends, and my cousins, who didn't have those types of preconceived notions, were so thrilled and impressed by Stevie on these past two tours.There are several excellent videos out there, that show off the "Stevie of old."
The best two are probably her 1981 solo concert video, titled 'Stevie Nicks In Concert,' and Fleetwood Mac's 1982 video, 'In Concert: Mirage Tour '82.'

'Red Rocks' is also terrific if you want to Stevie full of spastic energy... though that one features some overdubbed vocals, and separetely filmed close-ups, so not everyone enjoys it.

I should have mentioned that 'Red Rocks' is readily available on DVD.
You shouldn't have much trouble finding that one.

Stevie's 'In Concert' seems to be out of print, but you can find that thru eBay or Amazon.com's Marketplace.

The 'Mirage' concert is also out of print, but can be found on both VHS and DVD thru sources like eBay (although be forewarned that the DVD is an "import," and we haven't been able to determine its legitimacy).

Try Half.com for the 'In Concert' video. it's on there pretty regularly and for CHEAP. I got mine for only two dollars. :)

I just wish I could find an original copy of the 'Tusk Doc'... affordably... rather than the copied version I have.

Ahhh, yeah, but even still, she was starting her downhill slide by 1982 (I think)...those pale even in comparison to her performances 2 & 3 years earlier than those. Those 75-78 shows were SO good (where she set the bar for my expectations), everything after that (including the Tusk tour) just couldn't even TOUCH the bar, much less exceed it.

I guess there's no video of those?

She was on fire those first few years, wasn't she!

For me, the definitive version of "Rhiannon" will always be the 'Rosebud' clip from '76.

The first time I saw it was on VH1, during the first couple years of my Stevie & FM fandom, and it spoiled me for every version I've seen since (and the couple I had seen before it).

For just about every other song though... "Dreams," "Landslide," "Gold Dust Woman"... it's actually been a more recent performance that has become my favorite/definitive version.
