This is from a December 1, 2009 Wall Street Journal blog piece on Bill Hader.
http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/tag/saturday-night-live/ I can vouch that Swift, who I can’t say enough good things about, does a really good Kristin Stewart impression,” Hader said) and another sketch he’s enjoying this season, Keenan Thompson’s “What Up With That?” musical interludes. In the skits, Thompson plays D’Andre Cole, a talk show host who “takes on the issues of today with soul” while Hader plays perpetually bumped guest Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac fame. The series has also scored a number of special guest stars, including Al Gore, whom they nabbed while he was shooting a “30 Rock” guest spot, and “friend of the show” James Franco. “With James, he was originally in another sketch that got cut, so we just decided to stick him in ‘What Up With That,’ which started the whole visiting guest star thing,” he said. “Mindy Kaling we just grabbed on the way to the stage. She was just hanging out watching the show, and then she was sitting next to me asking me what to do.” Watch two “What Up With That” sketches after the jump: |
On again tonight...
|
Yeah, I fast-forward through most of it; you know what's going to happen by now. Lindsey should just show up one day & just totally interrupt their skit & say that he does actually have something to say for real. Something about how life goes in cycles or one of those speeches he does so well. And then rest of the band should just up go on stage & join him. They should just start playing "Don't Stop" or "The Chain". Well, I can dream, can't I? :D

Maybe one week the 3 guests will be the actual Stevie, Christine, and Lindsey and they will be there to announce that they are in the studio making a new Fleetwood Mac album, but of course leave no time for Lindsey to talk.
|
I think this skit gets funnier each time they have it on. Just the repetitive songs, and the redonkulous dancing. I swear they are trying to pull him into the show with Hader's impersonation. How awesome would "Musical Guest Lindsey Buckingham" be??
|
Too bad there's not a Betty White-ish campaign to get Lindsey on the show.
Michele |
Maybe he could be the musical guest with Betty White. That'll bring in the youngins!:p
|
For all you West Coasters, be sure to tune in tonight... HE'S BACK.
|
I'm still waiting for the day when the REAL Lindsey comes on & starts singing "What's Up With That"!

This is probably one of the few reasons I wish I was American. This and Mountain Dew :p

Saturday Night Live
I looked briefly for an older thread on this, but didn't find one. Does anyone know why Lindsey Buckingham (portrayed by Bill Hader) is always a guest on the "What Up With That?" sketches? Is there some event that inspired this?
I think it's hilarious, and so random. He's on every one of them! http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-li...-that/1167696/ |
It's obvious that somebody on the writing staff is a Buckingham fan and is doing it to keep his name on the public's mind.

Because "'Lindsey Buckingham' on Saturday Night Live" is just a few threads under this one. Must have been a pretty brief search- LOLZ! |

But in all seriousness, I did scan the first page of threads in addition to a SNL search - I was at work and busy and probably shouldn't have been posting, pardon me for not seeing it. |

It's inevitable that the real Lindsey will finally appear on the show... perhaps for the season finale, which usually airs in May- around the time Lindsey's new album drops! Also, Keenan Thompson has already passed his expiration date as far as being an SNL cast member, so I would not be surprised if this was his last season.

[USA did a list of 2010's 100 people and they included Kenan Thompson and praised his skit. It's not very funny. I can barely watch enough of it to see "Lindsey" much less more of that.]
http://content.usatoday.com/communit...-nos-50-74-1/1 65. Kenan Thompson. After eight seasons on Saturday Night Live, he has finally come into his own. I could watch "What's Up with That?" for 45 minutes and feel completely satisfied. (Poor, poor Lindsey Buckingham.) |

FWIW, Kristen "liked" the "Get Lindsey on SNL" page on Facebook today. So, they're all aware of it.
(it'll happen eventually, its just a matter of time) |
what's up with that? - it's back!
|
Here it is, for those that missed it...
http://www.mediaite.com/tv/foxs-bill...-up-with-that/ ------------------------- |
I've been reading the media mentions about the return of this skit and judging from viewer comments people like it a lot more than I realized. I mean, the "mute Lindsey Buckingham" is singled out in descriptions as one of the highlights of not only that skit, but the whole SNL episode.

laughing at them. This last episode though was probably the weakest of them all. |
Kate Upton
Obviously LB wasn't notified that Kate Upton was going to be in the skit. Otherwise the real LB might have been there in lieu of Bill Hader. "You ain't nothin' but a hound dog!"
