i'm listening to XMs Classic Vinyl station play the top 100 classic rock songs of all time.. "Rhiannon" is playing now.. they don't always say what number they are on.. but I think it's #49. (cough) I was hoping to hear some Fleetwood Mac on the heavy loaded with Stones and Beatles top 100countdown.

I've been enjoying these live Rhiannons.. very much.. thanks for sharing.

"dreams unwind.. love's a state a mind" song just finished and the dj said "Stevie Nicks" signing Rhiannon. dj also said the song was from Fleetwood Mac's 13th album..

now it's Pink Floyd..

I'm really glad "Rhiannon" was on the list. The fact that it made it just goes to show you that Stevie really did make a big impression on the industry-- to have such a poetic, ethereal and totally different song become a hit like it was is truly remarkable.

The Rhiannon from the Midnight Special as well as the one from Rosebud, along with the version from the Live CD, are my absolute favorites. Then again, I've yet to hear most of the different mp3's of Rhiannon posted in this thread, which is to say that I'm eagerly downloading them all! I'm bound to count some of those among my favorites as well. Thank you for sharing.

BTW an interesting thread you could put in chit chat would be about all the cities you visited on your vacation and what you did there. Was it all about the horses? You could include some photos too. I bet a lot of us would be interested in that.

I just got all the Tusk shots-- thank you SO much. From what I can tell, we share our favorite FM era :)

I basically live in a suburb of Paris, Le Vésinet, for two months every year. My dad is French so he sends my sister and I there to stay with his sister. My cousin, Béatrix, then comes for the remainder of her summer. I do a lot of riding when I'm there, too-- but I usually fly to Germany for a week or two to test out horses for my trainer back in California. I've been lucky-- she has connections with some of the best riders in the world (Peter Wylde, for example) so I get to see some pretty awesome stuff in the horse capitol of the world-- Germany :)

But yeah, if anyone's interested in all of that, I'd be glad to talk about it. I've been all over France, Germany (for horses) and Denmark (for horses), but then again a lot of Ledgies live in these places!

The McVies really made this one, IMO. Cutting Christine's extended solo on this was a HUGE mistake. Chris and John just gave the song a real creepy quality. I've heard the Buckingham Nicks version, and there's no comparison. Their version sounded like a bar band. THIS version sounds like a legend. Stevie, Lindsey, and Mick were probably at their best on this one, too.

OH MY GOD I had no idea. Not only did I have no idea.... but my family owns an Australian race horse, too. HAHAHA I bet our horses have raced against each other.

I think I will do that-- I sure love the concept and hopefully, I'm interesting enough for it to not look like a totally conceited idea! haha

Thanks for posting that! I think I've seen it before but it was a long, long time ago. I know a good "Rhiannon" recording when I get chills towards the end and I definitely did there.

It was cool to see her perform in something other than a black dress, and still do the Rhiannon twirls. :cool:

That is AWESOME. I'm back east every once in a while-- typically in Upper NY and Wellington (obviously). Any other big names you've shipped for? I'd bet money that I've ridden a horse that you've shipped-- my trainer (Jan Pearce) brings at least 5 a year from Europe, usually more.

Essential Rhiannon #2: Mirage Video
 

Okay I've discovered there are two essential version of Rhiannon. Largo 1975 covers the earlier period the best. But Los Angeles 1982 (Mirage Video) is a lot different and is equally good, if not better. Lindsey's soloing throughout this video is his best ever, I think, and in some respect it makes 1982 the best-ever year for live Mac. And Lindsey's fire seems to energize the rest of the band (and vice-versa), so that everyone--Stevie includes--is playing really hot.

And walk across cut glass if you need to, but get that Mirage video. It has essential versions of Rhiannon, I'm So Afraid (Stevie singing high harmony instead of joint melody), Sisters Of The Moon, Gypsy, The Chain, Blue Letter, Eyes Of The World, and Go Your Own Way (though the Japan 1977/Young Music Special Go Your Own Way is the best, or at least tied with this one). And though it's not my favorite song, I think You Make Lovin' Fun here is as strong as I've ever heard it.

I have the Mirage DVD and this version never ceases to amaze me. I'm going to rip it onto my iPod from YouTube though... thanks for the HQ link!

Stevie was backstage kibitzing during "I'm So Afraid." She was almost always offstage in those days for "Oh Well," "Not That Funny," "Never Going Back Again," "What Makes You Think You're the One," & "I'm So Afraid."

Christine sang harmony on "Afraid."

Poor Stevie. That's the worst part of Christine being gone. Now, she doesn't get her full ISA break.

The reason I love "Rhiannon" really comes down to the emotional range she's put into the song over the years. With essentially every other song, there's been a typical aura she's given throughout the performance that becomes expected for that song. With "Rhiannon", you can get the super whimsical rock goddess Rhiannon of the 70s, the more recent sophisticated and wise, collected yet tensely emotional Rhiannon, and even a super depressing, weepy Rhiannon.

Can this thread never end? I could listen to a new Rhiannon every day.

One of the more memorable recent Rhiannons was in Jones Beach during the 04 leg of the SYW tour.I believe it was the first show after several cancellations due to Stevie's throat issues. Her energy during this performance is amazing...plus it was quite chilly that night so she wore a fabulous long velvet coat most of the night, with the SB shawl over it for Rhiannon. It was neat to see her perform the song in something other than the bat wings. An incredible performance for sure!

Anyone want to magically conjure an MP3 of this? :D I need some more recent "Rhiannon"s that are especially powerful.

I only just found out this too and as an Aussie it was pretty awesome, the horse's name is "Illume" and not to long ago it won a local horse race thing ( i don't know much about these sorry:confused:) with lots of money involved, i believe she part owns the horse with a tour promoter over here named Andrew Mcmanus.:thumbsup:
