I read Don Felder's book too and what he said about Walsh was rather illuminating and helped to explain (at least to me) how he could say some damn nasty things about Stevie on Stern's show. Anyway, Felder was closer to Walsh than the other band members and they hung out together, taking fishing trips, etc. with one another off-the-road (along with one of the guys from Chicago). When Walsh was at the height of his addictions, marriage falling apart, in danger of being fired from the Eagles, etc., Felder personally drove Walsh to rehab.

Yet when Henley & Frey fired Felder, Joe Walsh just stopped talking to him altogether. Now there may be a bit more to that story than is being told by Felder and maybe there were some things Felder did to end that friendship other than the fallout with Henley & Frey, but Felder seemed genuinally hurt that after being there for Walsh during his addictions and recovery (their daughters were also close friends), and when he most needed Walsh's friendship, Walsh vanished.

So that for me was a little insight into Walsh's "character" or lack therein.

But Dave Stewart???? Yeah it would ahve taken a lot of drugs for me to have done him. LOL.

Don't say "I think." You didn't reach this conclusion on your own. Say "In the ENCHANTED booklet, there's a guitar credit for Joe Walsh on this song." Accuracy & clarity keep me happy.

I've been popping in every now and again but things have been crazy busy so I've not been able to post as often as I'd like but I HAVE to add MO to this: Joe Walsh is a
DICK - plain and simple. He's out for himself and will throw anyone under the bus if it means saving his own hairy ass or making himself look good in any way. He's a two-faced back-stabbing kiss-and-tell LOSER whose mental capacities are beyond repair due to his brain being saturated in alcohol for so long. Anything he says needs to be taken at face-value as he's also a NOTORIOUS LIAR!

Come on Felder. Let that anger go. It's not good for you. ;) I promise I'll pick up your book.

Here are some pretty interesting quotes from Stevie regarding her relationship with Joe Walsh:

assuming this one is about Joe....
Reflections from the Other Side of the Mirror - 1989
(About 'Long Way to Go')"This song was not written in such a nice way. This happened to be an experience that I had with somebody that I did very much love who we had broken up a long time before, a year before, and I had just finished Rock a Little. And I walked into my house with Rock a Little under my arm and the phone rang and it was him. And he wanted me to drive two and a half hours to wherever it was that he lived. And I was very tired and it was very late, like three-thirty, four in the morning. I turned around to somebody that was living in my house at that time and I said 'Should I go?' And they said, 'Well, it's a pretty long way to say goodbye...again. Stevie, it has taken you an awfully long time to get over this. Do you want to go down and start it up again?' So I went back and forth in my mind and finally he said 'I'm sending a limousine for you.' And I said 'Alright.' And so, chump that I was, I got in the car and drove down there and played the record for him and he kept it, which I will never forgive him for. And I think the last thing that I did say to him was 'You know, it's a real long way to come to say goodbye again. I thought we already did that. Have fun, tell the world,' which basically means words you don't say over the radio. 'Goodbye, forever this time. Don't ever call me again.' And he put me in the car, and I was hysterical, in tears, and I cried all the way home. And I said to myself, I will never, ever, ever put myself in that position again. Nobody will ever do that to me again. As much as I loved him, I will never let that happen again."

BBC Interview with Nicky Horne ~ August 27, 1991
(about her relationship with Joe Walsh)"We went on the Wild Heart tour and after about a week I went into a bar and he [Joe] was sitting there and he just looked up at me and that was it. It was love at first site. You should have seen me, I went and yelled at people about his sound checks. I bought him incredible silk shirts and leg warmers that he wore! I took really good care of him and I think that is what scared Joe the most because I was too in tune with him and he was too used to being out of tune with everyone. I really understood him well. I was really hard nosed about him. If my house was full and Joe called I would tell everyone to get out.

BBC Interview with Nicky Horne ~ August 27, 1991
(about why she broke up with Joe Walsh)"What happened at the end was I was getting ready to cut two songs with Waddy Wachtel producing and we only had two nights to rehearse and Joe had been off in New Zealand or something and he came down about one or two in the mornting or something and he was real good friends with everyone in my band. That would have been fine any other night but I was really angry with what Joe had done because he completely screwed up that session. He just had everyone dying laughing because he just tells a hundred jokes and everyone was just rolling in the floor laughing and I was going “this is not fair” because he is not being sensitive at all to this whole situation and “you know I would give up anything for you, even my dammed career for you if he was serious enough." I had a limousine and I asked Joe if he wanted to take me home or come home with him and he said, “well, I didn’t tell you this but I’m leaving for Australia like tonight and I have to pack so I’m just going to get a ride home with Waddy” and I said “ok” and started walking towards the door and I turned around and said “Joe I don’t like where this relationship is going cause it’s not going anywhere and I don’t want to do it anymore.” And I started walking towards the door and he said “well you know, if you walk out the door, you basically cease to exist.” And I just din't stop walking."

BBC Interview with Nicky Horne ~August 27, 1991
(about whether she still loves Joe Walsh)"I will always love Joe. It will probably be hard for me to find somebody else that ever ever made me feel like Joe did. [After the breakup] At that point I just thought it was over, I thought that I would just be an old maid and just live with a bunch of dogs and cats in the mountains somewhere and that would be it because there just wouldn't be anything else for me."

Sure does. It's on Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Runnin' Down A Dream dvd. The same one with that fabulous concert where Stevie joined them onstage back in '06.

I do not think Dave is horrible looking either. Someone doesn't have to be gorgeous to be attractive.

Actually, in Petty's Runnin' Down A Dream documentary, Jimmy Iovine said that Dave Stewart wrote the music and he(Jimmy) wanted Stevie to write the lyrics to it and record it for one of her albums. She wouldn't or couldn't find the words, or wanted Tom petty to write the words. Petty wrote the lyrics, liked it, kept it, and it turned up on Southern Accents. It's such a good song!

Trailer for Petty's Runnin' Down A Dream documentary. Very interesting indeed! BUY IT!!! :blob1:

Nope. The video characters are a homage to Lewis Carroll.

I've always liked this video & the song. Musically, of course, it's unlike any other Heartbreakers recording -- which makes sense considering that the Englishman Dave Stewart composed it. I particularly love the rococo synthesizer riff, & I'd like to know whether Stewart or Benmont Tench composed it.

Here's a 10 minute segment of Rockline that Dave Stewart was on not long ago.... He describes how the song "Don't Come Around Here No More" came about - including his meeting with Stevie and spending the night at her house, the recording of the song, Jimmy Iovine, Tom Petty & the video...

Or go to the Rockline Replay site and select the "Dave Stewart Clip 2" to steam online.

Hey guys, take it easy on Joe Walsh! None of us know him personally. He seems like a pretty decent guy to me. All that trash talk about Stevie was done when he was having major problems and drunk 24/7.

Obviously, Stevie is cool with him now - how many interviews recently has she done gushing about him as the love of her life ? So I say, who are we to question her judgment in this matter? She knows more about Joe than any of us ever will.

Same for Don Henley. They are obviously very close nowadays. And why shouldn't they be close? Yeah, he blabbed about the abortion, but what else has he really done? I've never read him dissing her in any other article or interview - correct me if I'm wrong. Why judge him so harshly? You guys should've have seen how sweet he was with her at AHI 2005, when her father was so ill (he died a few days later). Don came down with her and stood by her when she did the meet'n'greet, even though he knew we were all there for Stevie. Stevie also says he comforted her when 9/11 occurred. He seems like a very good friend to her and I for one say, let's give the man some credit.

Howard Stern always wants to find out about Stevie's love life. He did
that to Joe Walsh also. I bet Stevie will never be on his show. My guess would
be Stevie just blows them off. They should be thankful she went with him...
Also I heard he was gay, after his marriage to that girl from bananna.....
Whatever...

Hey everybody
Dave Stewart was also on Howard Stern today. I only got to hear a few minutes of the interview so I cant say what he said about Stevie but if you go to the Howard Stern Site and select the Rundown it does say that he said he bedded Stevie Nicks. I hope they rerun this show again cuz I want to hear what else he said about her. He is a freak though, talking about his toys that he sells and that stuff he has done, LOL!

Al C. heard the show and posted the following on the Enchanted list:

Quote:

Dave Stewart of the Eurythemics was on Howard Stern this morning and was talking about his affair with Stevie. He says that they hooked up right after she split with Joe Walsh. He says he was at a party at her house, she was wired out of her mind. He crashed in a room, woke up and she was trying on Victorian nightgowns. Next thing he knew they were in bed together. They went at it twice and then the next morning Joe Walsh showed up and Stevie told him "don't come around here no more!". Dave says that he talked to Stevie about putting the details in his book and she said it was ok. He originally was going to leave some details out, but Stevie told him to tell the whole story. He said the story continues on as to how the song "Don't Come Around Here No More" got written and how Tom got it and he said it gets interesting. He said that he is still friends with Stevie, Tom and Joe Walsh. Dave's book, "The Dave Stewart Songbook, The Stories Behind The Songs ~ Vol. 1" comes out next week.

I think it's funny that she was trying on Victorian night gowns. In that recent interview she did just this year, she said all of her boyfriends love her beautiful lingerie and I was thinking -- um, mostly they love when you take the lingerie off! I mean, I love peignoir sets myself, but I don't think you'll ever hear a man say, "oh, I want to see you in 200 pounds of lace."

I dunno . . . I don't have much of a comment on this. My personal opinion ~ I think it's pretty sad for men to kiss and tell. I know that sounds sexist but it's one thing for a woman to whisper among her girlfriends but for a guy . . . it just rubs me the wrong way. Tho I do think it's in bad taste for anyone to do it so publicaly, but he's obviously trying to sell his book . . . Don't Believe Everything You Hear and Read.

I think it's sleazy, but I don't just think that because he's a man. I didn't think Barbara Walters was right when she did it either. But this is worse, because Stewart's giving sexual details and I think Barbara had a little bit more decorum. She's not saying how many times she and Edward Brooke rolled around on the floor of the Capitol.

To his credit...he consulted with Stevie before it went to print. If she gave him approval to tell the story, then why shoud it bother you. I persoanlly love hearing these stories; they provide a glimpse of the personal side of their lives that we never hear the details of. Sell a book? If you wrote a book, wouldn't you want it to sell??

Regarding the Stevie story, he didn't make anything up or cast judgement on Stevie for the sake of exploitation...he was simply writing about various experiences he had when he first came to LA. That's it! Sexist? Hardly!

skuncles 09-05-2008 08:04 PM

Keep in mind his book is about the stories behind the songs he's written. "Don't Come Around Here No More" is one of his bigger hits he's written. How do you tell the story without talking about Stevie and what inspired it? He says she's ok with it, and he's still friends with her.
By the way, later in the interview he was asked about his relationship with Annie Lennox and why they didn't stay together. He said that for women in the business it's tough, he said that Stevie made the choice to have men in and out of her life rather than tie herself down with kids and a family.

Right, I think in rock and roll having sex was like having a drink, just something you did, part of the role.

You raise a question that many of us have had, as we sat down to ponder Stevie's loves. We have all run into the same wall: There are more people than there is calendar time to accommodate them properly, as it were.

This is how the Howard Stern "rundown" summarizes Stewart's comments on the website. It won't link to the exact page. You have to look at the "view show" segment and put in September 4.

http://www.howardstern.com/

Quote:

Howard asked Dave about his relationship with Annie Lennox, and Dave was forthright: “We lived together for four years and broke up and then wrote 250 songs about it.” Dave said Annie was not, as you'd expect, crazy in bed – though he was: “[My friends and I used to] just sort of touch our penises together...it's hard to explain if you've never, well, you've never experienced it.” Dave added that the sick act wasn't the dirtiest thing he's ever done – he's also bedded Stevie Nicks.
I wouldn't want to hear that anyone from Fleetwood Mac was ever a guest on Stern's show.
