Basically, they discovered that "Hold Me" didn't come of live as well as they would've liked. I tend to agree, I thought it pretty much sucked on the Mirage tour.

That'd be my guess, because it wasn't done. :D He/she probably just got it mixed up with another song, although I couldn't guess which one.


Those of you who've mentioned Brown Eyes - I couldn't agree more. I know The Dance was more of a hits-based (OK, Rumours-based) tour, but they threw Farmer's Daughter in for God's sake! And yeah, I could have done without Stand Back & Go Insane myself - more Mac would have been better. Not that I dislike The Dance, I still think it's fantastic. But we are Mac fans, and we like to bitch. :laugh: So I would have put Brown Eyes & Little Lies in place of Everywhere and Farmer's Daughter. Give me Seven Wonders instead of Stand Back while you're at it. And hey, Linds? Dump Go Insane for a kickass rocking version of Tango in the Night. Please & thanks.

The Chain? Mirage tour all the way. So much raw emotion. God, I love those versions. Actually, I would say I love my Mirage tour boots best - the setlist, the vocals, the last tour without a 50 piece band backing them up....awesome. :nod:

I can see what they (and you!) didn't see in the Mirage Tour versions of Hold Me, it does lack substance - especially in comparison to the great studio version. I would think that in the more recent years with the entourage on stage with them to help fill in the sound, they could have pulled off Hold Me.

Gypsy was not so hot on the Mirage Tour either but it was resurrected many times since.

Some songs are just meant to be studio versions...the key is to know which ones.

LOL you are so right - I did imply that but didn't really mean to do so. Although there are some decent versions, Gypsy is a song that just can't be replicated on stage.

That being said, I do disagree sort of, just about any song can be played live - it's up to the musician(s) to arrange it so it works. If done well(at least in rock and roll), live versions shouldn't replicate their studio counterparts anyway.

I'm still disappointed that they couldn't at least give some life to Hold Me. It really is an incredible song, one of my favorites, and one of Christine's best. Much better than the overplayed and semi-dull You Make Loving Fun.

I wouldn't call the album version overplayed, since it's the only single from Rumours that isn't played on the radio so often I start wondering if someone in the band just died recently.

I meant overplayed in the sense of overplayed in concert. And the 1997 version of YMLF was indeed, very boring, esp. compared to the earlier tours.

Am I the only one who liked the live version of Hold Me on the Mirage tour? Yeah, it's a little raw, but in a rock and roll way. The studio version is pretty and lightweight. The live version had some muscle, courtesy of Lindsey's guitar at the end of the song. When I saw a Mirage show, I was wondering how it would sound. It held up nicely. But instead of singing "Hold me...hold meeee" they modified it to "Hold me...hold me, yeah!"

One of my faves. Always loved it. You can't listen to it expecting to hear the multitracked French dessert you hear on the album. That's the trick.

To me, it was pretty & heavyweight. Any song that's so amazingly orchestrated is no lightweight effort -- it's serious creative achievement.

I also love the You Make Loving Fun from The Dance. I don't think it's boring at all -- well, except for the backup singers on the chorus. Their approach doesn't fit the band. They belong on someone else's stage.

I also really like Hold Me on the Mirage tour for all the reasons you stated. I liked that it was edgier and sounded different.

In the old days of Kazza, I downloaded a live version and I thought it was so good. Ive got a bunch of Mirage boots but none have matched to that version.

I liked how they did Hold Me during the Mirage tour. What's frustrating is that once they've decided that a song "doesn't translate well onstage," they will almost never give it a second thought.

They never resurrected Love in Store, either. And to the best of my knowledge they never did Think About Me live, did they?

Yes, they did. It was late during the Tusk tour just after they released it as a single. I'll post it later today, unless someone else does first.

think about me was played on the last leg of the tusk tour, and micks drumming was great...:thumbsup:

Yeah. Micks drumming was awesome back then in general. He really drove well on coke and alcohol. Musically speaking. :laugh:

His drumming on the Tusk-album is the most original varied and experimental poprockdrumming I've ever heard. He took that with him on stage. Fenomenal.
