I think it's cool, too, how we all pieced it together.
I never put the final pieces together until about 1993!
First there was 3 yr. old me singing GDW...
Then there was 8 year old me falling in love with Stand Back, trying to record it off the radio, never being able to, and never finding out the artist.
Then there was 12-13 year old me, falling in love with Seven Wonders - and hearing Little Lies on the radio every five minutes, not knowing they were the same band! :mad:
Then there's me in highschool, happening upon the Bella Donna concert on PBS, running to get my tape recorder for Stand Back yelling "that's it!!! that's the lady!! that's the song!!!Omigod, i finally found it!!!!" and recording EO17, too.
Then there's me playing that in the tape player in the truck all the time, still not knowing she was the GDW and Seven Wonders chick. But at last i had found it.
Then there's my friend getting rid of her tapes when i was 19, and giving me Tango, when i spotted Seven Wonders and yelled "Omigod!!!! there it is!!!!!"
Then there's me buying Timespace. Then Street Angel. Then the Green Album. that was probably 94-95. The rest is me rarely listening to anything else. :D

Oh come on, don't make me repeat the story over and over again! To make it short and sweet - I sucked at guitar until I re-discovered FM. Then I started studying Lindsey's guitar technique and it really helped me become a better guitar player.

The moment I knew there was a Fleetwood Mac. 10 PM sometime in (72?) the summer. WNEW-FM (natch!) New York's tasteful alternative music (in 1972 that meant something other than today). Jonathan Schwartz ( Yeah, the sae guy who plays Frank Sinatra music on XM Radio) plays a cut. Cut starts:

I can remember my mom tellin' my brother "If you want to go to those rock & roll shows, take your sister", lol.... Well, it gave her some time off & I got an early education in music! I've been a fan since I was practically in my pram, heck, I still sucked my thumb! My ma knew my brother wouldn't smoke any of the wacky stuff if he had to watch me at a gig. Ha, not.... :lol:
We were lucky having rather easygoin' parents who let us out of the house at all hours going to gigs. Of course this was back in the day when people didn't want your kids & everyone seemed to look after eachother at gigs. Man, I feel really old right 'bout now....
The first songs I remember hearing by FM: Black Magic Woman, Albatross & those great shuffles like Long Grey Mare.... I love shuffles....

I grew up on a dairy farm, and we lived about 20 miles from a town with a Wal-mart. I liked Wal-mart because they had a record section. I recall seeing Fleetwood Mac albums in the bin - they had their own section.. and I assumed they were a heavy metal band. That is when I first recall knowing of them.

My recollection of the first time I heard a Fleetwood Mac song was during 1976 when I was rounding up the milk cows in the chevy truck with the A/M radio station blaring "Over My Head." I thought Christine's voice was that of a guy, because of the Fleetwood Mac album covers I had looked at, I didn't recall seeing a woman.. I thought it was a nice song..nothing special... initially.

then, the radio started playing "Rhiannon" which I didn't really pay much attention to until a girl at school commented about how much she loved that song. I started listening..and it grew on me..

Then.. I received the White Fleetwood Mac album from my sister for Christmas 1976. I listened to the album front to back through my headphones until 2 in the morning.. and I knew I had found my favorite band. I loved the album. Every song. I never felt so moved by music before - and the feeling lasted. Fleetwood Mac is still my favorite band.

I remember knowing many FM songs like Rhiannon and Go Your Own Way from radio, but never was REALLY into them until THE DANCE. I am so glad they made The Dance...I watched it the night it was on, and was so excited! That was the first FM album I owned. If they hadn't put it out, many young people wouldn't have gotten a taste for the Mac, because The Dance was EVERYWHERE when it came out. :blob1:

I remember being about five or six years old and my father always put on music in the morning to wake us up for school. I remember LOVING "Dreams", "Crystal" and "Rhiannon". I started asking a ton of questions about the lady in the black ballet outfit and for a little while I thought Stevie was the guitar player and Lindsey was the ballerina!

My Mom was a huge Stevie fan and she definately got me addicted. My first memories of seeing them live were when my parents took me to a Mirage show and a Wild Heart Show. I do not remember too many details about those shows but I do remember my Mom telling me that the guy who was playing around with Stevie in between songs was "Joe Walsh". I remember them horsing around, sort of wrestling and laughing. I then made her take me to see the RAL tour. When LB left in 87, I was crushed beyond words and did not even want to go to see that tour without him. I also really missed the old Stevie around this time and could not quite put my finger on what was "missing" when I would hear or see her. She was just "different". I saw her for Street Angel and she was rocking and enchanting once again. I was super excited when it was announced that FM, including Lindsey would be performing at the Clinton Inauguration and I stayed glued to the tv watching all press coverage and interviews the band did. I remember that STevie did not attend most of the interviews for some reason. I saw Stevie again in Boston, in 96, and after that show I was not sure I would see much from Stevie ever again. Along comes the Dance...magical, captivating, enchanting Stevie is BACK! My fandom reached new heights when I got involved with the internet community. I can not imagine my life without their music, particularly Stevie's. I have so many memories of different times in my life and the songs that were big at those specific times. Like RoF was hot when I was in my fist year of college. Street Angel came out when my second son was born. TISL was released when I was leaving on a family vacation to Florida. There are so many other private memores I just cannot imagine my life without them.

When I was in elementary school the parents of a friend of mine had Rumours on the original vinyl. I remember thinking that the blonde girl on the cover looked like a magical ballerina and of course from that point on I was hooked. :thumbsup:

My uncle gave his entire vinyl collection--along with his turntable--to my grandmother, who was babysitting me at the time. He was making the switch to some other format (cassette? reel-to-reel? don't remember) and just gave them away. Grandmother played Rumours during my naptime. :)

So I was well aware of FM throughout my teenage years, but in 1988 when I turned 16, I became obsessed purely by chance. I had a terrible accident on my 16th birthday and had a badly broken leg. I had a four-hour surgery to repair damage, lots of time in the hospital, etc. My dad bought me a new stereo with a CD player that Christmas. I had no CDs, but he promised to buy me some the next time we went into town.

That "next time" turned out to be the night of a particularly invasive and painful outpatient procedure on my leg. My dad kept telling me, "Be strong, keep cool... we'll go music-shopping when this is all over." Well, they drugged me pretty bad and so my dad was left to his own devices to start my CD collection for me. While I waited, half-dazed, in the car, he went in the music store and asked to buy whatever CD was #1 that week.

It was the green Greatest Hits CD.

The next morning I remember waking up to "As Long As You Follow." My dad had put it on and set the CD on repeat on my Sharp CD player. :)

I heard "Dreams" and "Go Your Own Way" again later that day, really for the first time since I was a little kid. I was already a Stevie fan and had "Bella Donna" on vinyl, but the band really won me over when I was 16... and it was all my dad's fault. :)

My earliest Fleetwood Mac memory is of being a young child looking through my parents' record collection - and making fun of the pictures on them. I distinctly remember coming across their copy of Rumours and laughing at Lindsey's fro. "He looks like a lion!" (Hanging my head in shame now. How dare I say such a thing about his gorgeous curls. :o )
Later on I heard "Stop Dragging My Heart Around." I've always been a huge Tom Petty fan, so of course I had to pick up Bella Donna. But for a very long time Stevie was nothing to me but "that blond girl that sang with Tom."
Then the reunion happened. I came across a small article about it in RS magazine and marked my calendar for the premiere of the Dance.
The day of the premiere came and as soon Lindsey played the first chords of "The Chain" Stevie was all but forgotten and I was in love. ;)

i've never posted before so you'll probably wonder who the heck this is. this is a fellow mac addict lilymoon. but i digress. my first memory of FM? 1974. i heard bare trees on the radio and got sucked in right then. happily, i mifgt add. :wavey:

I remember being seven or eight and hearing a song that I thought was utterly, spellbindingly beautiful...but lacking the resources or initiative (seven, yanno!) to find out who the hell it was, I let it go. But some of the lyrics - not the tune, oddly, but the lyrics - were still floating around my head years and years later: well there is magic all around you, if I do say so myself...I have known this much longer than I've known you.

I remember being nine years old and walking around a record store, and seeing (what I later found out was) the cover of 'Timespace' and thinking whoa...whoever she is, I like the look (or whatever a nine year old thinks along those lines).

Fast forward to New Year's Eve, 97/98. I'm fifteen and sitting at home alone waiting for my parents to get back from their meal out with the family so we can go party...I'm channelsurfing. I end up leaving it on some station that's showing a concert just as my parents get back in, I get up, I go talk to them, we're all just chatting about their night when suddenly I hear this *voice* and it's like nothing I've ever heard before, I'm running back into the other room to see who the hell is singing...and there's this beautiful blonde woman with an incredible look and indescribable voice singing this beautiful song with beautiful words and a beautiful name...getting the point here?! :] ;) It was The Dance concert, Stevie was singing 'Rhiannon' and I was gone. Bang.

Cue another six hours of frustration while we go to some New Year party, when all I really want is to go home and check out this band. As it happened my Dad had 'Rumours' and 'Tusk' on vinyl. The entire Mac catalogue was bought over the course of the next two weeks (Christmas money - great timing). I was just lost in it. Totally obsessed. Gone. In love in love in love. You get me.

After about a year I was getting ready for something more, so I decided to take the plunge and try some Stevie solo stuff...I found 'Street Angel' in a second hand record store for three pounds. Bingo! Ah, youthful naivete (how did we find out about bad albums before the internet? We bought them! :D ) I was underwhelmed. I liked a couple of tracks, but it sounded so flat. Christ, even the typeface on the cover looked cheap and boring. Well, says I, never mind. Still got all those Mac albums.

A few months later I have some gift vouchers for a certain record store and I'm wandering around aimlessly with nothing to buy. And suddenly the 'Timespace' cover grabs my eye. I always noticed that cover when I was younger, I think to myself...hey, let's give the girl another chance. So I buy it, and I get home, and I throw it on and start playing Sonic the Hedgehog or something. 'Bitch' comes on and I think...well, it's a bit livelier at least! Hey, actually, I could totally get into this...

...and then the chorus to track 8 rolls around. And I stop what I'm doing and probably looked something like :eek: . I'm pretty sure I actually did run around the house screaming oh my god it's that song it's that song it's been in my head for years and years and it's *stevie nicks* it's like...fate or something argh ...I was slightly overexcited, fair enough :D It just seemed like some sort of weird full circle thing.

And that's the long overblown story...but hey, I'm 21 and I don't think I've EVER managed to get anyone to sit through the whole thing before, so if you've managed to get this far, I thank you! hehe.
