I don't think they'll let him come back... rules are rules, you know! Even if they did, I doubt his pride would allow him to start posting again.

I can't imagine what he posted that would be strike worthy. I've looked back over his recent posts and nothing looks all that bad to me.

Personally, there's been at least ONE Ledgie who has been banned who I wish WOULD expire permanently. (I think the long-time Ledgies know who I'm referring to!)

And, a couple who I'd like to see reinstated.

I guess I missed all the hoo-hah.

Personally, I'd like to see CV back. But, it's not my board.

RESCIND THE STRIKE

1. I know from the guy himself that he likes to come back.
2. Disrespecting Marty was not the issue. ( although that thread was not a clever and respectful move of him, I think).
3. If there was another reason, like Trackaghost, I'd like to know from the moderators what WAS the reason but I don't think it is in his advance to speculate about that. SO, PLEASE let us NOT speculate about reasons until there is some light on that.
4. It's not my board either, but sometimes you get attached to virtual friends, we all know that. I think we deserve SOME explanation.
5. People who walk a thin line, sometimes fall from the ledge. But hey, someone who knows he's not wrong is not right but always sets discussions on sharp with that same attitude. (sorry, just had a few beers in a bar where they played Johnny Stew on vinyl!!!! Really true!)

6. Speaking of Johnny Stew: Please, Johnny, can you shine some light on the Trouble with Carne???????????????????? Please?

Please?

I hadn't replied to this thread, because I'm really not comfortable with doing so. As moderators, we don't generally comment on these types of questions.
The matter of strikes, bannings, etc., is between us and the Ledgie involved.

But I realize a lot of people are wondering what has happened or what is currently happening, and I also see that a lot of people are directing their questions to me specifically.
So I just want to let everyone know that we were waiting for two of our moderators to have a chance to review the situation and weigh-in, before we proceeded.
Our decision will be forthcoming.

I won't comment on the exact reasons for CV's absence, but I want to make it absolutely clear that we have never held it against someone for posting criticisms of how The Ledge is run.
While we might not agree with certain criticisms, we most certainly respect an individual's right to voice their opinion.

Our only concern has always been to ensure that the rules & guidelines are followed, and that The Ledge is a hospitable environment for all.

And on a lighter note... this also has nothing to do with my wanting "SMAP" out on 'Tusk' Survivor, though I see conspiracy theories abound! :p

I'll start with IKINW.

It wouldn't have mattered if I voted or not, it was gone. :( But we'll win it, don't worry, they don't know what we have up our sleeves.

 Has anyone actually heard a thing from him lately? He seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth (not that that's a bad thing, mind you).

Diss, remember that past votes get counted in a song's tally if there's a later tie. Therefore, your vote may very well have counted at a future time. Just a thought.

Yeah, but I had counted the votes five minutes before they were tallied and we were two votes short. With my added vote, it would have been one short and still would have departed us. :( Oh well, I take solitude in the fact that there is such a die-hard group of people appreciate who the genius that is SMAP.

I for one have always found Carne's posts to be informative, amusing and entertaining. Granted, I can see how some maybe have perceived his debative style to be somewhat abrasive, but to me, in this strange, contorted way have always found it to be part of his dare I say it, charm:) He's actually complimented little old me on some of my post's contents, which I thought was actually very sweet of him... Nevertheless, this board is owned by Mary & Fam, and
"controlled" by the moderators. While I may not "agree" with some of their decisions, I'd have to say that I "respect" them. By the same token, if there IS in fact something going on, I think it is fundamentally THEIR concern. Who knows, maybe Carne went on vacation or something? At any rate, I would look forward to seeing possible future posts from him:)

The Tower 09-09-2004 08:59 PM

I'm sure "His Royal Majesty" is reading this forum as a guest and simply beaming at how much of a stir he is causing, even in death - OOPS!!! - I mean purgatory.... :o  :D

Oh, we wuv you Carne... what's life without a gadfly devil's advocate, anyways???

You can't have good without evil!  I oughta know!

celestenadia 09-09-2004 08:59 PM

Typo :(

Shucks! My computer is freaking out and won't let me go back and edit! Typo - we all know it's MARTY NOT MARY! Sorry MR.Penguin!
PS: Please don't strike me for any kind of gender-biased content!!! ;)

Cristian 09-09-2004 09:20 PM

Uh, power really sucks, I think.

You have to handle all of your troubles with care and so on... And perhaps at one point or another Carne broke some of the rules that happen to make this place what it is... a Message Board and nothing more than that.

I feel the pain of the moderators - it's not really easy to ban anyone or whatever... I used to be a moderator in another Forum I was in, and I had to quit because they wanted to ban a friend of mine. It's a hard labour, but someone has to do it I suppose, especially if some people felt offended or something.

But anyway, I REALLY miss Carne's posts. I was wondering what was happening to him, too, since he was around these parts almost everyday, but now his comments are gone and he's a very important part of the fun that one can have around here. Mind you, even if his arguments sometimes were as empty as a George W.Bush's speech, they were at least funny to read. And even if I wasn't in agreement with him all the time, I'd still want him to come back because I think he's one of the people that you REALLY miss if he's not around.

Just a brief thought about the subject.

shackin'up 09-10-2004 04:22 AM

Thanks, Johnny Stew

Thanks Johnny for giving Some clearance on this situation. I'm sure that you moderators will see things in perspective, I only hope that it does not take much time anymore. Will you keep us posted?

I just wanted to add my voice to those calling for Carne's return. thank you.

tynan88 09-10-2004 07:02 AM

I have not yet had the honour of a debate with Carne but look forward to it with great anticipation and it hope it happens one day so...I suggest we need Carne back, he may be a bit rude, but there is no doubt he is an exciting character and brings a noce bit of excitement. Of course thought we don't know the full story and I totally respect what ever decision King and Queen Penguin and the moderators make.

I got an email from a friend. He's not registered on this board, but said he was in the past. He was reading this thread and came to the conclusion that the guy you are talking about really appreciates the warmth of this thread. My emailed answer was "How can you say that, do you know him?" Haven't heard a thing since.

Im with all of you guys on this one.....Bring Carne back!

Yeah I say let him return but with squelch. I can picture him sitting in front of a computer bound to a chair. Muted with nothing more than a dim lamp in the corner. PB+J sandwiches being slid under the door and a toilet pan provided when he rattles his chains. It’s sad. Real sad. Removed from the world he once knew. It may be just what he needed to recognize he was walking in the valley when mountains are all around him. Show him the road to return but not without a clause. He must commit himself to a daily, supervised 12-step masturbation program. It’s the only way to rid the bad Karma. Don’t let him fool you with a sample from his dad or dog. If he fails to give you a sample hook him up to the pump. If he fails any of the 12 steps make him return to step one. If he fails 1200 steps consecutively he will probably be too blind to read the board anyway.
