When we saw the Eagles, the last tour with Glenn Frey, they announced at the start of the show that everyone on the floor stay seated. They said something like "we're all old and no one wants to stand for a full concert." They then invited anyone who wanted to, to stand for the last 2 songs. We were row 9, and if someone got up, security was over in a flash to tell them to sit. Everyone complied.

I just got home from seeing FM in Hartford. I was 11th row center and stood for the whole show as did everyone in front of me for the entire show.

There was a review for two other FM concerts that talked about baby boomers and millennials going at it over the standing/sitting debate. I saw the same thing happen when I saw FM in 2014. Two young couples was up dancing and the older couple behind them started screaming and cursing at them to sit down. It almost turned into a physical fight until security stepped in. I'm personally used to being at concerts where everyone is standing up, but I don't mind staying seated if most of the section is. With that said, I agree with the poster who said Bill O' Reilly is a douche. That self-righteous hypocrite is always ranting and turning everything into a political debate.

Yes. I have been like this since I was teen. I remember wanting everyone to sit down at Prince concerts. BTW, when I first saw Prince, he was the opening act for Rick James.

O'Reilly acts like this is some new phenomenon. I've heard the "sit or stand" debate since my first concert experience back in the early 1980s. There's no right or wrong answer, IMO, but I do try to be courteous of those around me. I'm not a "stand all night" or "sit all night" kind of concert-goer, but I don't complain if those in front of me stand, and I have to, also. It's just how it is...

Yeah, its always a play it by ear situation. I always buy tickets within the first 5 rows to any Mac related show so it usually isn't a problem. My rule is if the ppl directly behind me are sitting, i'll sit too.

Actually at the LB show in Concord, NH the stress with the sitting and standing was so stressful, I actually left my 4th row seat and stood at the back of the theater just so I could move around. It was awful.

Back when I still attended Eagles shows (I'm not interested in what they're calling the "Eagles" now), I loathed their ridiculous policy about standing. Don Henley would literally scold people from the stage for standing before the "appointed time" towards the end of the show. It was ludicrous. Back in 2014, my friend and I were threatened with ejection for standing and dancing during "Already Gone"!

My rule: I stand if enough people around me are standing; if no one else is standing, I stay seated.

I have been in attendance when security was hassling standers at an FM show and Stevie made motions to Lindsey who went to his mic and protested people being made to sit down. He said they liked them to stand. I should have shaken my fist at him. He’s no Don Henley.

I don't have a problem with anyone standing especially if you are on the floor in the first 20 rows. I have seen people yell to sit down in that area and it confuse me why someone would buy tickets so close and expect to sit down the entire time.
I sort of lose this philosophy the further back you go. If you are standing up good for you but you are blocking the view of short people, disabled people and people who expected to sit far away and enjoy the show.
My peeve lately is a generational thing about food at concerts. When I saw Buck/McVie, I was nauseous from the smells of hot dogs, that fake cheese nachos, popcorn, and various other food items. I sat and watched giant cardboard trays of food brought to their seats. WTF. Are you there to eat or watch a concert. They were talking about this on Stern the other day "Grazing." Its also happening at work in offices. People bring in food or bowls of candy or other things and people graze all day eating. Seriously, we cant watch a concert or work anymore without stuffing our face with food constantly?
Ok my biggest peeve is the phones. The constant selfies and texting during the show is so freaking annoying. People watching the concert through there camera phones is annoying to me.
I don't always agree with Bill but I agree with him on this instance.

I agree about the cell phones. Other than the fact that people make a mess with food and their spilled drinks, I don't mind food, but perhaps it is best at theaters when you can get refreshment during intermission but are not encouraged to bring it inside the auditorium.

I mostly agree with you about the fake nacho cheese. Tired of this junk and I am not above fast food. I can love some of it, but most of it is ruined by fake cheese that just makes everything gummy and has no flavor. Give me real cheese or go home.

I like to sit near the front so I can see the artist, make eye contact with them. Lindsey ... if he feels like it, he can hear everything you say, even if you aren't talking loudly. I want to see their interaction with each other, the looks they exchange, the whispers. Sometimes I can read their lips. I want to get something from it I don't get from a video. I want to see. I don't just want to hear. I don't want inconsiderate people coming between me and that experience.
