I can't stand modern country. The most recent I'll listen to is 90s. I love Shania Twain, George Strait, Sheryl, Pam Tillis, etc. The only 'nowadays' country I can handle is Miranda Lambert and The Pistol Annies. But I don't like her loud raucous songs like Gunpowder & Lead that much. I love the soft beautiful songs like More Like Her or Desperation.

I have to admit I do like a few rap songs, but only if I am in the mood. And the lyrics have to bee really dirty ;-) Like: "I got a hand full of ass and fist full of weave, face down on your knees" Or "I'll show you how we pimp in the south, it aint pay day till I nut in your mouth"

You sound like me! I am 22, and I always try to find new music, but I always end up frustrated and going back to my old standbys. I've seen Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, FM, Stevie, Lindsey...I have no desire to see most newer bands. The emotional depth and honesty in lyrics and delivery is just not there anymore. I have been pleasantly surprised by several newer artists too, and you should try:

Joss Stone (soul)
Caitlin Rose (country/pop, but more classically influenced)
Davina and the Vagabonds (just starting to hit the national scene, but really unique voice and almost has a revivalist/dixieland sound without trying too hard)
Diane Birch (Her first album, Bible Belt, is wonderful- like Carole King mixed with Norah Jones)
Haim (see KendraOb's comment above! They're really unique and I didn't think I'd like them at first, but they grow on you and are great live)

My favorite musician outside of FM is John Denver. I also love the Stones, CCR, Simon and Garfunkel, and I've been starting to get into some of the Dead. I like some Cher and some Frank/Dean/Tony Bennett/Nancy Sinatra songs. Throw some Jimi in there too! As for newer stuff; I love Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Florence +, John Mayer, Postal Service, some Mumford +.

And I love Marilyn Manson, and Dead Kennedy's. ;)

Nice!:nod: Just had Dulcinea in the CD player in the car. Saw them several times early 90's. Love their sound. I see there on a tour this year. Hope to catch them later this month.
