Interesting how quiet Stevie was in these early interviews compared to later. She barely talks and Mick just rambles on. it'd be funny to put this video side by side with the recent Stevie-Mick-Lindsey videos where Stevie never lets Mick get a word in edgewise

I don't think they were talking about the first single off the album, because Mick discussed a slow burn or a sleeper. Like a song that was not released as a single, but took off because the listeners made it popular and took off a while after the album was released too. So, I don't think it was OMH or SYLM he was referencing.

I think it's OMH here. Chris said way back that the band never expected that song to be a hit single. She tossed it on the album almost as filler. I think AM radio play made it a hit between September and December 1975.

In this video (cool video, by the way), they're probably still on tour in 1975 (Stevie mentions having started in May). OMH was the only official single that year. Rhiannon and SYLM were singles halfway through 1976, when the band was on its second round of touring and Mick had his signature beard and mustache.

The band also said they never expected Rhiannon to be a hit because it was so weird.

It could be either OMH or Rhiannon as neither of them were thought of by the band as songs with single potential.

But when Mick said the song was kind of creeping up on the radio, it made me think he was referring to OMH. Rhiannon was a blast right out of the gate.

My God I'm always so taken away by how amazingly beautiful Stevie was back then (and pretty much still is) but she was a BOMBSHELL back then. :thumbsup:

And actually, wasn't "Warm Ways" (inexplicably) the first single released from the album? So I guess they thought that was the obvious choice, only it didn't really go anywhere.
I too am hearing this as being about OMH. By the time of Rhiannon, they would have already had a hit.

I always thought this, too was the first single. Apparently it was only the "first" single in the UK. But I have always thought of it being the lead single that didn't go anywhere.

Great point Mick said. Great single can bore people two months later. Who knew. If this is about Rhiannon. 38 years later and people still love hearing this song on the radio. I remember seeing a good jukebox. Rhiannon was number one most played. You just never know.

I feel the reason Stevie is so low key in those early interviews was because she was still the "new kid in town," still adjusting the sudden public profile, and her role in the band dynamic. Soon, as she became popular, and established herself as a significant force in band, she became far more dominant and outspoken.
