I wouldn't mind if they start recording in the second half of 2012 and then release a brand-new album and tour in 2013.
I rather wait a year longer for a new album that have them tour again with the same old stuff sooner.

Selfishly, I'm hoping that the reason SN isn't keen to book in any FM album or tour commitments in the first half of 2012 is because she's finally going to sort out some European dates for after she gets back from Oz in December. That would be sweet and also make sense of LB's comment that she's enjoying supporting IYD so much, etc.

I agree that they send up a lot of conflicting smoke signals, too, but one I really liked and latched onto was Mick saying a few weeks ago that they might just do a few tracks - in effect, an EP. I think Dave S's and LB's appetite and vision for how FM might operate in the modern world means that they might do something like that.

As for relevance? I don't think music has been relevant since the 1980s. It's mostly hedonistic now and that means acts have relevance to you if the sound they make gives you pleasure. On that basis, FM are definitely as relevant as any other.

I agree with you!! Touring without a new album was strange enough during Unleashed. It shouldn't happen a second time.

Not that I trust anything out of anyone's mouth when it comes to FM, but I'm actually relieved to hear this. To echo some other sentiments expressed here, I was not excited about the prospect of an Unleashed Redux.

Would love to see a new album first, or at least in the works before I pony up anymore cash for the Holy Trinity of SN, LB, and FM.

I think some of the songs off the last few records Lindsey has put out especially are terribly relevant. I don't think I would've even understood or "gotten" half the stuff on Under the Skin without the loss of my father. That record is now part of the soundtrack of that time in my life... So really to say the band or Stevie, or Lindsey solo for that matter, are incapable of making music that's relevant is asinine. ;)

But I think I get what you mean in that they should all just do whatever because the world isn't paying attention?

It's not MAJOR news that FM is not touring, or what they are doing solo or as a group. People(most people) are not waiting on the edge of their seats for THE NEWS. Of course they still make relevant music, at least to some folks. I'm one of those people. My comment was off the cuff, and of course I realize on a FM message board, members would want to know if they were touring or not. But it's not 1977 any more!

Sucks for Mick and John though.

The desire it there. Lindsey mentions it often. It's nothing new; Fleetwood Mac has been a juggling act between solo careers for the last twenty years.

I hope an album comes before a tour. Tours are fleeting. Albums are permanent.

I would be happy to see a killer album as a trade off for no more tours.

Not at all realistic. The money is with touring. If that was ever an option, I could've seen them doing that in 1994, with just Chris and Billy.

Yes please!

this is interesting. Up to a few weeks ago, it sounded like touring in 2012 was a sure thing. Now not so much. Sounds like Stevie's camp may have more plans for 2012.

Fleetwood Mac not touring in 2012 is the best news I have heard all year! I can see them getting together the end of 2012 like say December 21st to do something. :p
But I see no reason for them to tour any sooner.

To be honest, I don't mind what they all do, as long as they do something I'm just dandy.
New FM album ~ Brilliant.
BN work ~ Brilliant.
FM Tour ~ Brilliant.
BN Tour ~ Brilliant.
More Stevie solo ~ Brilliant.
More Lindsey solo ~ Brilliant.
All in all, they can do anything and I'm still gonna be here lapping it up :D
