Solid Gold '79 was one of the highlights of my life! This was really the first big music show I had ever seen. Wasn't this the show that started the whole series? I just remember seeing the commercials and previews from it and all the acts and videos and I was in absolute heaven. I mean I think I liked this as much as the Wizard of Oz back then! Alright, so, I was 9 and really getting into music big time. So this suited me just fine. I watched it every week for a few years until I couldn't stand the dancers anymore.

I had no idea who FM was at this point and didn't really put a face to the name until Solid Gold showed "Sara" a bit later on.

Yes, the 1979 countdown was the first Solid Gold episode. It aired in January 1980.

A friend of mine has almost all of the Solid Gold shows.. they're fun (and funny) to watch.
