No, not really. My mother is a big fan of The Beatles and The Eagles, so she really made me hate both of them after torturing me with them for 18 years of my life. I can only take the heavy Dylan pondering in small doses because Dylan fans act like philosophical snobs and major league ass kissers, but Bowie is endlessly fascinating to me. Of course, that doesn't include the majority of his eighties output.

Which is why I'm always shocked when someone can say that she's as respected as Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell with a straight face.

You wouldn't say that to Bob Dylan's yorkie. :D

I like the guy on that board with the Marc Bolan avitar. He has some good comments. It also seems he wants to provoke the Dead heads.

Ah, isn't it sad? We just can't get diss to like the Beatles. Though it's still not as bad as when I was all emotional explaining to everyone why I love hearts and stethoscopes a couple of months ago and he said the sound of a heart beating is gross. I just about keeled over at that point. :distress:

Anyway, now that I've done the obligatory teasing of dear dissention for the night, I have to say that I read the first page of that thread on that board (thank you for posting it, glitter_fades) and I have to say that I was pissed when someone said something like "the girl can't sing," and didn't even mention which girl he or she was speaking of. I'm guessing it was Stevie, though. I can't help but resent a comment about Stevie not being able to sing, particularly back in the day.

Yeah, I suppose she isn't, generally speaking. But I respect her as much as I respect them, anyway. :)

I. Love. Stevie Nicks. (Have I ever mentioned that?)

:sorry: but it does. Just freaks me out. I went with my friend when she had her ultrasound and I couldn't breathe, it was so claustorphobic hearing that loud heartbeat in that small room. And then when she had me feel the baby kick? Oy. But I'm eccentric, so don't hold it against me.

The Beatles aren't bad, nowhere near bad, I just got sick of them and never acquired a taste for them.

I was kind of shocked that Christine got almost as much respect as Lindsey on that board. Good for her, I say.

I can understand that you got sick of them. My Mom made me listen to her Beatles stuff so much that I'm surprised I wasn't just turned away. Anyway, you crush my little dream that if we were ever to meet in real life (totally a pipe dream, but I'd like to meet a lot of people on here) that you would let me listen to your heart with one of my stethoscopes and you would in turn listen to mine. :( Anyway...

I was surprised, too. It seems to me like she goes unnoticed much of the time, despite the fact that the majority of Mac hits seem to be her songs. It appears to me that Lindsey gets the most respect and Stevie has over-the-top fans if not respect, but Christine is just...Christine. That's a shame; I adore the woman. So I'm happy for her for getting some attention on that board, too.

A lot of it has to do with when my mother had heart surgery back in October; that freaked me out and her having me listen to her heart didn't help. When she was in the hospital, the woman who shared her room had a metal valve put in and I swear on my dog that you could hear that blasted thing clicking in her chest. I almost had a heart attack myself.

Regardless of whether anyone is a big fan of hers, there can be no denying that she has a golden voice and knows how to write one helluva pop song without going into overkill mode like her former bandmates.

I'm sorry about your mom. :( I know people have been through some things that I haven't, to put it vaguely and make an understatement.

Do you mean La Nicks and, uh, Le Buckingham?

Wow, if they're putting down Stevie's Tusk material, they must not be able to stand anything by her. She is at the top of her game on that album.

Oh, and much love for Christine. :woohoo:

tynan88 03-04-2005 05:20 AM

Mojo Magazine is quite a bluesy oriented magazine, so I am not surprised at alll to see Chris get so much praise there before of her background. It is just as likely for people to know her for her earlier stuff than with Mac, if you noticed there were a few people there who mentioned pre-Rumours material.
