To my mind, the only Buckingham Nicks line-up song that really fell flat live when compared to its studio version is "Hold Me", mainly because Lindsey didn't want to replicate that obsessive rhythm guitar of his.

And something like "Never Going Back Again" or "Songbird" were always sparse-sounding, even though the core musicians may have been playing on them. So it has been with the former on the SYW tour and occasionally on the Rumours tour too, when Mick added brushes and John followed with his acoustic bass.

The first live performance of "Songbird" (as Chris stated on the recording before they played it) from 5-21-1977 actually has John on bass too. :nod:

I think "Over My Head" on the 1980 live album (taken from that 5-21-1977 show) is pretty much as great as it would ever be on stage. And I'd take the Mirage tour version of "Gypsy" over any other live version (except for the acoustic one, of course). I guess someone ;) in FM these days has too much of a perfectionist attitude because it seems like they want to be too close to the studio sound for my liking.

Lindsey also would strum along on acoustic guitar on those early live versions.



Yeah, that acoustic version from the AHI show is the ONLY live version I've heard that even deserved to be played. The song is just WAY weak live. And, to put it in the set list right after "Come" is just horrid.


Which, for me, has been the Eagles' downfall. Why go see a band if they're just going to replicate their songs note-for-note off the album? Some bar band can do that, and sometimes with better results!

As he does on the Mirage tour video too. I bet there was a large gap in between when he didn't participate in it.

I guess it really misses something without that lush harmonic background (not that it matters too much for me), and their attempts to recreate that effect haven't worked.

Chili, what kind of acoustic is Lindsey playing on the Mirage video? It's a weird-looking acoustic.

Christine played keys on some of the Landslide verisions.

I'll have to look at it again.

Just off the top of my head, I would say "Ovation", since that was his acoustic of choice for the live stuff...but until I watch the video again, I don't want to say for sure.

Indeed she did, on the bridge (back in the old days before Lindsey started playing it himself on the reunion tour).

From '75 through '78, Chris played the "Landslide" bridge on a Fender Rhodes Mark 1 Suitcase Piano, which seems to have been her Rhodes model of choice on recordings ("Rhiannon," "Brown Eyes," "Dreams," "You Make Loving Fun," etc.) & onstage ("Landslide" only). As far as I know, she didn't use the Mark 1 Stage Piano model (think Chick Corea). The Mk 1 Suitcase model is the same one used on "Don't Let Me Down" by the Beatles, & a lot of other stuff, like the "Innervisions" album by Stevie Wonder & the song "Daniel" by Elton John.

For the '79 & '82 tours, Chris stopped hauling the Rhodes around & just used her main electronic piano, a Yamaha dual-channel stereo puppy, for the "Landslide" bridge.

I love Buckingham front and center when he currently plays his GO YOUR OWN WAY lead assisted by his "strumming" fandom....... me preferring marvelous Neil Heywood and the other axeman to be positioned in back.......Was that fab guitarist Ray Lindsey who came out to "duel" with Buckingham on the GYOW finale on the TUSK and MIRAGE tour? In the videos someone does.

After all, on the Fleetwood Mac albums you hear two - to three -different guitars at one time on one song....and it's all Buckingham......:nod:

Ray Lindsey seems like he's Buck's right hand man in setting up on the SAY YOU WILL tour, but does he play live anymore?

I've wondered the same thing. After all these years, it doesn't seem right to take that away from him.
