Meredith and I were talking about this earlier....we both really feel that the AMA was a better award for Fleetwood Mac than the Grammy. I mean, who does the Grammy come from? Probably some losers in suits that make boatloads of money off of the talent of other people (or should I say whatever sells). The AMA came from the fans. The only reason i'm bothered by the fact that they weren't nominated is because I feel that this was sort of Lindsey's baby and that he really deserved a nod from the Grammy voters. The band really came together to make something that people hadn't heard before. I think it's an incredibly original album with amazing vocals, lyrics, production and playing. They all really shine on SYW. But at the end of the day, I think Fleetwood Mac knows that regardless of whether or not the jackasses in the suits understand what they were trying to do with this album, their fans do. We don't see them as burnouts in their 50s. The success of this tour proves that :nod:

What about "Picture" with her and Kid Rock? Or would that have been considered part of last year's noms?

I think it would have been last years. And I think that Kid Rock would get the Grammy, though I'm not sure. :)

Nice to see David Bowie, Sarah Maclachlan, Lucinda Williams, White Stripes, Audioslave, and Radiohead up for awards. Everything else is just crap. The categories that apply to Fleetwood Mac, pop album and album of the year show a really sad state of affairs in music right now. I can't believe F.M. was shut out!

It would have been nice if they were nominated but I really hate the Grammys. Even since Jethro Tull won for best metal performance I've considered the Grammys' choices for whose nominated to suck. I love Metallica but for awhile the Grammys were nominating them for everything including cover songs. They actually won for two cover songs they did. Even though I like the songs I don't think they should have been nominated for songs that weren't originally theirs.

This truely is a disgrace !! Not even one nomination. I won't be watching, not that it will make a difference.

if i remember correctly the grammys are voted on by basically anyone who has had a hand in 6 or more commercially released tracks... and are credited on those tracks.... and want to fill out some membership form and pay yearly dues.... lol... so if someone plays the freaking triangle in one verse on 6 different songs... and wants to fill out the forms... and pay money every single year to the grammy company or whatever... they can vote... they don't have to be musicians though... just as long as they are credited somewhere as doing SOMETHING on the track.... it counts...


and yeah... the eagles' hole in the world.... bad... way baaaddd... the first time i heard it, it was on the radio and i was like "dude what the hell is this? it SOUNDS like Don when he's whining too much... but those other people sound like freaking n sync or 98 degrees or something..." so i stand firmly behind that theory.... don's whining with nsync singing behind him.... (sorry guys... but that's what you sound like)

We can't really be that surprised though. Look how critically acclaimed TISL was, and only one nomination for it. SYW didn't get as much acclaim (although it received its fair share), but I think as an album, it all comes down to what EVERY SINGLE critic said...it's just too long (for average listeners). I'm a little more surprised they didn't get nominated for vocals on Peacekeeper, but not all that surprised considering the Grammy's history lately. Now, the thing I'm truly pissed about is that they nominated Justin Timberlake for album of the year. :eek: :eek: :eek: This is truly an insult to EVERY OTHER artist who did not get nominated for album of the year. Justin Timberlake is nothing more than a Michael Jackson wannabe who uses gimics in each of his songs to make them popular. For example, in the latest single "Senorita," which is an awful, awful song, he uses "listener participation" to make it a hit in clubs or wherever. His knack for going into falsetto is annoying enough, but the fact that he sounds like CARTMEN from South Park when he does just makes it comical at best. I just don't understand where his success is stemming from. I'll even admit, "Cry Me a River" was an ok song, and would have been a great video if in the middle he didn't prance around and bring his pop identity into the song. It's a dark-mooded song, you don't add prancing effects into a video for a dark song.

In any case, I could go on for hours about how bad Justin Timberlake is, but I'll stop, because I'm usually pretty good at picking the one sweeper of the Grammies (like Norah Jones last year, whom I picked). It's always an artist or band who does something a little different than everyone else but still manages to sell a lot of albums (again, like Norah Jones). I think Evanescence takes that spot this year, and it's because of Amy Lee's almost operatic voice blended in with rock music. It's just really different from anything else this year. So, that's my bet on not only album of the year, but also who will take most of the grammies they are nominated for.

I agree with you completely. But Norah Jones was kind of a no-brainer. :) Someone with as beautiful and unique voice a voice as hers crossing over into jazz, pop, ac and country was bound to score a few awards.

Fleetwood Mac has never been a grammy favorite. “Rumours” was a given.. because it was the album of 1977, and there was no other choice. It broke records being number one. I look at it as a “we have to give you this grammy” award. ’Rumours” was the album of 1977. But, the band didn't win the best group of the year.. yes, it was all about the album. the “Rumours.” There was no “Dreams” as record or song of the year. Then “the Dance” came along, when the band received some more nominations, but yet couldn't capture the trophy. "Silver Springs" should have won for best vocal, but that's my opinion. and it is all about opinions. Music snobs need not apply. :-)

anyways.. there are some well-deserved grammy nominations. I agree with the Outkast nomination (my favorite of the album nominees). When I first got the record, I put 'The Love Below" on first, and listened to it 3 straight times. It never bored me - it felt fresh. Then, I moved on to the second disc "Speakerboxx".. and I loved it even more. ... can you feel that B-A-S-S bass. Great album, and I for one thinks it deserves its nomination - and should win. “I like the way it moves..” The White Stripes "Elephant" is another excellent choice for album of the year. “Ball and Biscuit” is one of my favorite songs of the year. It should have been nominated for song of the year.

Evanescence “Fallen” didn’t strike a chord with me. I listened to it 3 times - then shelved it. Couldn’t connect. I haven’t heard Justin Timberlake’s album, so I don’t know if it’s worthy of its nomination.

The Missy Elliot nomination for album of the year was a nice surprise. If Outkast wasn’t in the mix, I would vote for “Under Construction” as the Best Album of the Year. And one more thing about Missy - doesn’t she have the best videos! If I’m channel surfing and stumble across a Missy video, I stop and watch.

“Say You Will.” I have to be honest and say that the album didn’t really stick with me. I still listen to songs from it, but I haven’t listened to it from front to back for over month, maybe two.. . I do think it deserved a few nominations.. "Peacekeeper" is a great song.. but I can see why SYW wasn’t nominated for album of the year.

My favorite band is Fleetwood Mac, but even I love five albums from this year better than “Say You Will.”

My top five of 2003 are 1. “World Without Tears” by Lucinda Williams 2. “The Love Below/Speakerboxx” by Outkast 3. “The Trouble with Being Myself” by Macy Gray, 4. “Under Construction” by Missy Elliot , and 5. “Reality” by David Bowie.

First of all, I am not that upset even though they obviously deserve it.

And I really don't know what the general public thinks about this record and how they would swallow it. I wasn't too intrigued by this album at first listen. In fact I forced myself to listen to it so much that I ended up loving the album. Maybe it is even more a feeling of "you have to like this album, they are your favorite band", but I don't really know. I don't think so though, I listen to Say You Will a lot more then, say, Rumours.

In the grand scheme of things...

The way I see it is that they are just happy to make great music again....:)
Awards at the end of the day end up collecting dust on shelves....and the best award that any band can get is the continued support from the fans through thick and thin....:D

Who beat them in 97 for the awards they were up against. Oh and I am mad that they were shut out but oh well we still know the music is good.
