I don't think it speaks to a lack of love for Stevie that we want to see her change her outfit more than once per year. We are concerned because this behavior is so out of character. This is the woman who said she loved to play dress-up, that it is heaven to her to find a chest full of clothes in an attic. I don't think she meant she played dress-up with one outfit.
And I do have unconditional love for Stevie, but my love for her clothes is conditional on her not wearing one outfit all the time.

well i personally would not want to see her in sweatpants (on stage of course...a candid photo at home would be a different story) or jeans...those people that criticize her for the way she dresses (in her trademark clothes, boots etc) annoy me....as a matter of fact, when i saw her in Boston in 1996 i took some great closeup pics of her cause i was in the front row...i showed my mom and she was like "she still wears all those drapy clothes?" and i replied "mom, she wouldn't be stevie if she didn't wear those 'drapy' clothes"

So, that's my point....the thing is (as i've said before), personally, i am really sick of seeing her in black...i think she looked great in that red outfit from the Dance era. I don't know what her thinking is. Of course, i realize she can and will do whatever she wants and it has no effect on her singing. I think the belief thats that it makes you look thinner is so drilled into her head that she's never going to stray. The funny thing is, it's not making her look like she's 100lbs....that's not a cheap shot either. We all know what her shape is...so, it's not really hiding anything.

Am I the only one who is sick and tired of Stevie getting put down around here, specifically for her appearance? Did any of you actually watch the RMAs? She looked absolutely radiant and happy. I see no reason to continually put her down for her choice of dress. (Especially on the other thread that is now running song parodies belittling her). I don't want to bring anyone down, I'm just stating how I feel... and I'm very distressed and disturbed to see that Stevie is ONCE AGAIN getting put down for her appearance. The woman is happy, healthy, and beautiful-- I'll take her on stage in her black dress, a potato sack, or a sweatsuit... whatever... I am just grateful that she is out there busting her ass every night for us!!! Why aren't you all picking on Lindsey for wearing the same outfit every night on stage? Or Mick or John for that matter? Why Stevie? Why is Stevie always the butt of everyone's jokes? Who gives a **** if she's not 100 pounds and strung out on coke anymore... if she wants to wear the black dress, who cares?? She is here, she is alive, and she is making music for US-- her fans. I'm just sick and tired of people putting her down constantly!!! This has gotten WAY past the point of being fun. It's getting down right mean on this thread and the "Margi Kent" thread.

I know I will probably get flamed for this, and I really don't care-- in my opinion this has gone on way too long and if Stevie ever read this (and there ARE Fleetwood Mac members and associates that DO read this board) I think it would hurt her feelings. That her fans-- the ones that are supposed to love her-- are constantly putting her down. *sigh* I guess even though the Ledge is back, somethings will never change. :distress:

Black dress, no black dress, top hat, no top hat, Reeboks, platforms, shawl, no shawl, bangs, hair grown out, trashbag..whatever. I am glad that at age 55, she's healthy and she's kicking it for us and still putting on the best performances of her life and making some AMAZING music. I don't care if she comes out on stage in a frickin' burlap sac. To me, it makes no difference. I would rather have Stevie in whatever she wants to wear than no Stevie at all.

I believe people post about what Stevie is wearing because the woman has always been considered a fashion icon and she has gone out of her way to live up to the image. Stevie's aware of the image she created and has enjoyed being thought of as someone who is revered by women for her physical beauty and beautiful clothes, and by designers for her wonderful sense of style.

As for the put downs, it's the internet, everything goes too far and these things usually have a way of winding themselves down. The show just happend on Monday night, I'm sure with or without your post people would have moved onto something else.

I see lots of things on lots of message boards. I see people putting down the Ledge on this board or on other boards and since everyone has a choice about where they want to post and read, it's easy to skip over or not visit the boards that you don't like. That's the internet and unless you have a closed board or one where you throw people out who don't agree with the management, there really isn't much of a solution for the owner of that site. The people who choose to visit that site have a choice about not visiting, ignoring things that they're not happy with, or posting the way they feel about it.

I see a lot of double standards and I guess the reason Lindsey doesn't get put down as much is because 1) he's a guy and we're talking about clothes 2) he hasn't been considered a fashion icon for almost 30 years. He has been called a slob and a lot of other names when he was wearing the white t-shirt on the early part of the tour and he's gotten his share of remarks about his hair and other things. I also think there's a double standard about not being able to put down Stevie's clothes, but Lindsey's wife is fair game for whatever some fans want to say about her, regardless of how nasty or mean the comments are. You're right about lot's of people associated with the band reading this board and other boards, and there are plenty of comments around that would hurt a lot of people.

Just because some people don't like Stevie's recent taste in clothes, or that she keeps wearing the same outfit again and again, it doesn't mean they don't still love her or think any less of her talents as a performer.

That's a great photo of Stevie with Tom Petty! She truly does look radiant and happy.

Well, you know.... yes, I admit it.... I have complained about the trademarked Blackdress in the past, but now I think I can say I have worked through all the denial, anger, bargaining.....and have gladly reached the stage of acceptance.

She's just gonna wear it, people.

We should all just get used to it and love her anyway.



Of course, if she ever DOES change outfits, who knows what that will do to my psyche......

I have spoken out for and against "the black dress" in the past. So to premise this post, it's Stevie's music that's really matters in the end as long as she remain happy and healthy...

I have no idea where I got this from but I remember some Stevie quote that says the only time she wears red is when she's mad or annoyed.

Nikol's clothes analogy seems good to me but I'm not a fashion designer or stylist. But Stevie is getting older so she does need to reevaluate what looks good on her. She looks great in person because she's such a beautiful woman despite aging gracefully. The camera does not always pick this up as of late. My hubby says she's getting that older maiden aunt look, he waits for her to pass out dollar bills. well, at least she's not a botox mannequin.

in regards to people associated with the band reading this board, I have to say, I've been on a lot of different types of boards during my Internet career and it's the same all over. People criticize, people carp and trolls just want to poke fun. So I hope any Stevie associates who might read these posts get that...overall fans love her because of who she is not what she wears...but we do love to gossip :laugh:

with the start of the awards season, she MUST find herself something new to wear, a joan rivers might shred her to pieces on some red carpet one day.

it's a simple rule, you cannot go in public wearing the same clothes over and over again!.

merf; it's perfectly okay to be expecting more from ms. nicks, it's just a part of her job. when i was doing tv for example, i had to come up with at least two new sets per week, so what? and i wasn't a fashion icon, i'm just a guy. trust me, there are harder aspects to jobs where you need to be seen in public.

Seriously, I just cannot believe anyone who has been around here for any amount of time would think this thread or the other thread about "THE DRESS" in any way indicates any type of hateful Stevie bashing or that 99% (there's always one) of the people posting do not unconditionally love Stevie despite of her one black dress, her weight gain, her hair, the awful Reeboks, etc. I think this is just having fun at the expense of "THE DRESS" she inexplicably chooses to wear everytime she goes anywhere these days. As for LB, he needs to change his outfit as well. AND, as for Mick and those Little Lord Fauntleroy outifits and red shoes - do not even get me started.

I think you are getting the wrong idea about people's intentions with the song parodies. I know that I'm not doing it in a mean-spirited way and I hope it doesn't come off that way. :) I think people are just trying to add humor to the board. Also, Stevie's dress has been a running joke for a long time and we've been doing these song parodies for a long time; it's just something we muse about and parody in order to have fun. I don't see it as people putting her down at all. If someone were to say "Geez, Stevie's a skank for not changing her clothes," that would be rude and incredibly mean. These parodies are so outrageous and exaggerated that they just can't be taken seriously; they must be taken for what they are: attempts at lighthearted humor.

In the past few months, the Ledge has gotten a bit of an edge to it. It got pretty un-fun for a while because everyone was at each others throats and incredibly serious. I, and others like Livia, have tried to make this place a bit more fun and lighthearted like it was at the start of the tour. I wish some of the old regulars would come back and make this place more lively and jovial like it was, but I'm sure they won't. However, we can at least try to have fun instead of having pointless discussions about WISYA, Lindsey's wife, and the Tango fight.

I love Stevie no matter what she wears, but I also love to parody songs about ridiculous things like her black dress. :)

In fairness, everyone reads things differently so I don't blame you for seeing red. However, I really don't think anyone writing the parodies ever intends to bash or put down Stevie. Negative comments on her attire can be seen as constructive criticism if Stevie ever reads the comments about her wardrobe. The way I see it, the people who really love ya and really care will tell the truth when ya need to hear it, not just say what's flattering to stroke your ego. I agree what's good for the goose is good for the gander. I specifically remember a thread I participated in at the beginning of the tour where we got on Lindsey's case for wearing that crummy T shirt. As I recall, it was not long until his nursing home T was history. I don't claim to know if anyone in the band culls the net for fan comments, but I'll hand it to Lindsey's people for getting the word that the T **** (not a typo) had to go. As far as I'm concerned, if it's so hot on stage he needs to go in his underwear, why choose the nursing home T? Why not a new pair of tighty whiteys? Hehe!

Merf, sorry if the subject offends you, and I do not intend this response to be patronizing at all to you, but I think you are misreading our intentions. Why do we joke about her? First, FM contains characters, and Stevie is the most distinct of them all, probably one of the most distinct of all celebrities. That makes her easy to lampoon, and the fun is partly in the exaggeration. Second, as Cour mentioned, Stevie is an icon and her recent pattern of dress is just so out of character. We joke until we figure it out, perhaps. Also, for the record, she is my favorite, so most of my posts will center on her, but I recall plenty of jokes about Lindsey and his Fruit of the Loom tee & Mick's wooden balls not so long ago. If Lindsey still wore the tee every night or Mick's balls were not old news, we might be lampooning them, especially if we were as obsessed with them as with Stevie.

As for "The Black Dress"... I'll admit that I'd like to see Stevie shake things up once in a while... she's always looked absolutely amazing in reds, for example... but I really do think that she's gotten to a point where she doesn't want people to focus on her dresses, platform boots, shawls, hats, etc., anymore.
As a younger woman, all of those wardrobe changes were part of the fun for her, but I think now she just wants to get up there on stage and sing, and have people focus on that.

Perhaps she may even feel that, at 55 years old, she'd seem ridiculous or self-parodying if she still ran offstage after every other song, to change outfits. We all know how she is about people "acting their age!" :cool:

But no, a little color or variety wouldn't hurt her. :)

I certainly remember the days when she would leave the stage after every few songs and make wardrobe changes. People would make comments about how they wished she would just stay out on stage, perform, and not worry about what she was wearing. She was a singer in a rock band after all. The stage clothes changes really did detract from her being looked at as a serious artist in a lot of people's eyes. So I agree with Brian's assessment of the "situation". Granted, it is a little grating to see her wear the same thing time after time. About as much as it is having to see posts made about it. It's all in fun, I know, and that's cool. But the bottom line is that she is still up on stage doing what she does best...being an inspiring singer/songwriter! :nod:
