She says/said......

But wait, I thought Stand Back is her favorite onstage.
It seems to come from its own time and space.
Oh, and last I heard, Beautiful Child is very very special to her onstage.
And Sable on Blond is her serious statement on TWH, which was a tour she loved.
And Twisted she just loves.
Sara she loved as her favorite song, but then it turns out it was way edited and she hated the stage version anyway. Or she was mad at Don's interview. Or that old lawsuit. Anyway, she loved it once.
Rhiannon she never says she loves, but she says it could be a neighbor lady, and since she's a good person, I'm sure she knows to love thy neighbor, so I guess she loves Rhiannon, too.

 Point well taken. I couldn't have said it better myself.

No, "In the Still of the Night" isn't on the In Concert Video, but it is on the Source concert bootleg (the same show including songs edited out of the video), so I guess they filmed it, but its not on the video (same with "Leather and Lace" which was later released on the video comp.) I wonder why they insisted on editing the video down to 1 hour when they filmed more than that and could have released the whole thing?

Adam,

I was just going to write the same thing! I recently got this boot & I love it (actually, it only plays in my car, I think it's a bad burn. Anyway...) I was surprised that a few songs were left off the video - but it's probably because it was a tv (HBO?) special so they edited it to an hour.
Bella Donna & Angel were also left off the video & they are awesome! The harmonies on Bella Donna are dead-on.

Oh, don't forget Angel from the Tusk doc - something like: "I love doing Angel on stage, I absolutely love it! It makes me feel like an old time dance hall girl" Paula

From what I gather, "How Still My Love" was her favorite song to sing... when it was in the setlist.
But with her more recent solo setlists, she cites "Stand Back" as her favorite. :)

She can have more than one favorite... "it's a woman's right, they say!" ;)

As for the title, I'm thinking that Stevie had named it "In The Still Of The Night," but perhaps was talked into re-naming it "How Still My Love," because of the Five Satins' song... which would be why she still refers to it by the former title.

Oh, and she's performed it on the 'White Winged Dove' ('Bella Donna'), 'Wild Heart,' and 'Other Side Of The Mirror' tours. :)

Thanks JS for the info, and as usual well put. :)

I've got to get my hands on that. ;)

Just because it wasn't on the In Concert video doesn't mean that it wasn't performed at that concert. In fact, consulting my CDR/tape collection..Stevie included "How Still My Love" in all her shows/tours starting with Bella Donna up to The Other Side of the Mirror. As far as I know, it hasn't been included in subsequent tour sets.

Regarding the In The Still Of The Night/How Still My Love song title discussion...

If you listen to the early versions of the song, she sings "In the still of the night" but there is no "how still my love" line. I think at this stage the song was call In The Still Of The Night. As the song evolved in the studio, the "How still my love" line emerged, and the song title changed, but the previous title was seared into Stevie's memory. A reasonable theory. What do other Ledgies think?

"How Still My Love" is a much better title...the other is too cliched.

I know that.
Joe had posted that he couldn't remember if it was in the in Concert video.
I was responding.

Stevie would introduce How Still My Love as her favorite song up unitl The Wild Heart came out, then she'd cite Stand Back as her fave onstage. :)

Stevie did perform How Still My Love on the Street Angel tour, but dropped it after opening night in Boston. Unfortunately, it hasn't been heard from since...:(

On the Stevieboard somebody brought up Sable on Blond, which I always thought would be great in concert following How Still My Love.

I always thought that Sara and Sable On Blonde should segue into each other like Dreams and Outside the Rain. That would be a dream!

PenguinHead 09-02-2003 12:59 PM

I always thought that Sable On Blonde would be a great song to segue from Outside The Rain. Dreams really does need a rest, and Sable on Blonde has the same timing and beat as Dreams. Will never happen though.
