Tango In The Night will be a great addition to the collection. I enjoyed the video. Maybe it's just me but I actually dislkie the Mirage Video. I hate the version of the Chain with wailing out the lines If you do not love then you will never never love me again. I lso find it amusing that the idiots that released the Mirage concert on DVD are too stupid to realize that the cover shot is that of the band circa 1990 and not 1982.

What a hoot.

Yes indeed, this video is a stinker. How I tried to like it. But there is so much wrong with it ! It doesn't even play like a concert. It is a sterile, filtered, hazy disaster. They shot Stevie almost completely from the waist up, through a Navajo blanket, and from a distance. I don't know what is worse - the striken, deer in headlights reshoot closeups, or the repeated cutaway slo-mo shots of the audience standing and cheering. There are a few moments of interest, but for the most part this thing is creepy and dull.

The 'Tango' concert video is along the lines of the kind of shortform concert videos MTV was playing around that era. The kind you would have seen from Bon Jovi, Poison, Winger, etc... in fact, pretty much everybody... where they mixed specially filmed close-ups, backstage antics, and slo-mo audience shots, with the actual concert footage.

In fact, MTV aired footage from the 'Tango' video a couple of times, and even ran "The Chain" and "World Turning" separately, during a live concert series they had going for a while.

So if you're looking for a straight-forward document of the 'Tango' concert, then you're probably going to be disappointed here.
But if you just take it for what it is, you'll probably enjoy it quite a bit. :)

But then again, close ups were shot for The Dance. Moreover, they coupled footage from different parts and perhaps tapings on The Dance initial concerts into one song. The best evidence of this is seen when you look carefully at Stevie's tambourine and realize the streamers myteriously change colors during the same song. Or, when they pull back for a long shot and one of the singers is not really singing when they are supposed to :laugh:

In any event, I liked the Tango concert, so I probably will like the DVD.

On another note, what is wrong with being shot from the waist up when your caboose is large :shrug: :laugh: believe me I have been there :laugh: !! Also, they pretty much did the same thing for Stevie in The Dance video.

It just feels particularly self conscious in this video as there are very few full body shots. It's very unlike the Tusk or Mirage concert - the viewer has no feeling of actually being there. It just adds to the stagey, choreographed feel of the piece.
I haven't seen it in years - even though I used to watch it often to get a fix. One time, a friend of mine and I were watching it at and both of us looked at each other and said, "This really kind of sucks, doesn't it ?" :laugh:

That's actually my favorite part of that video. To me it kind of summarizes the turmoil the band was going through at that time. That's not to say that I always liked it. It definitely had to grow on me.

True, though the difference is that the close-ups we see in 'The Dance' were filmed during the actual concerts, while the close-ups for 'Red Rocks' and 'Tango' were filmed later.
Either way, it's never really bothered me.

That's pretty much standard practice though... the 'Mirage' concert, 'Tango,' and Stevie's 'In Concert,' all feature footage filmed over two nights, too.
And I believe that the live footage in the 'Tusk' documentary, was also culled from two different performances.

The only truly live concert videos we see, are the ones filmed by fans in the audience. :)

Amen to that. And - with the advent of the those two big monitors above the stage, many brave concert recorders get the benefit of those "professional" shots like in the Greensville VHS I saw, which was great considering it was secretly filmed, etc!!!! Kudos to whomever shot it!!!

I didn't realize that the Dance had any close up shots filmed after the concert.... If they do they are so discreet and comfortable to watch that it doesn't bother me. I am bothered by the Red Rocks video because they never show Stevie's face from the actual show. All the shots of Stevie are either far away or were filmed in a studio and look very fake!

It doesn't... the "close-ups" were filmed during the actual concerts (of which there were three... one dress rehearsal, and two performances in front of a full audience).

Apparently the bulk of the concert video/album, as we know it, comes from the third show though.

Which is how Lindsey could break a string on his banjo in one scene and have all five attached less than one second later! ;)

I don't believe it does- but they filmed 2 nights and you can tell from the editing that footage from each show was edited together. There's also a part during Say You Love Me where LB breaks a banjo string- you can clearly see it pop - and then the next shot *poof* - all fixed!
