LMAO!! I agree, I love EFO and RTTG, but on the radio, not these days, unfortunately. :( They aren't "bland" enough to be on the "We play the same 10 songs all day, every day at KGAG!!" stations. :rolleyes:

Thrown Down would be my guess at 3rd single, only because it was on "Friends" which, as crappy as it is these days, is STILL popular.

Thanks for that post. Besides EFO, I think that Thrown Down has the potential to be a really big hit. It does have more of that "FM" sound. Radio just sucks these days, that's probably why I listen to only CDs these days.

But no matter what single is next, if they don't do a video, it will be pointless. This is an industry run by MTV. Believe it.

I've been hearing that Eagles song "Hole in the World" (aka "Put Me to Sleep PLEASE!!!!!!!!" LOL Sorry Eagles fans...my fave Eagles song is "Lyin Eyes", btw) on my classic rock station and ususally either right AFTER they play that or soon after, they play SYW, which is SOOOOOOOOOO much more upbeat...and the single version is more "wall of sound"-ish than the album version and I like it ALOT better than the album version too. :nod:

I'm finding it really strange tho (being a pretty new classic rock listener) hearing these "new classics" along with the classic stuff, it's cool and I'm happy about it, it's just weird.

I think think the most likely song to be the third single is "Thrown Down," if it's a Stevie pick or maybe "Steal Your Heart Away" if it's a Lindsey pick...either way these songs would be stuck on the "lite fm" stations . :o At least Peacekeeper got some AAA airplay...and I agree with what everyone else is saying about a video, they need it!! A good Fleetwood Mac video for Thrown Down, for example, could get a ton of airplay on VH1 even if it didn't go too far on the radio. For that matter, I think "RTTG" or "EFO" could get airplay on VH1, but not necessarily much on the radio.

All that being said...I don't think they'll even push a third single (tho I obviously hope they do) and they probably won't do a video either (seems like they would have already).

RTTG- yes, that was a little funny. I like RTTG but I don't think it sounds like an FM song. :laugh: But don't say that around my younger brother too loud. He's a budding Mac fan and this song is his first love. But hey, you gotta reel them in anyway you can. :laugh:

I think Thrown down is a good choice but I would like to see What's The World Coming to or Illume released as singles.

Illume will never go over on the radio. I can't believe anyone thinks it would.

The marketing for SYW has been very low-key for whatever reason. For some reason I cannot help but wonder if their strategy is to give the album a back-end "kick" after the initial buzz has died down. Accordingly, there are a number of aces up the Mac's sleeve in terms of potential singles.

If I were one of the powers that be at Warner Bros., I would be pushing "Running Through the Garden." Yes, it does sound like a relic from the 80s, but the 80s are back in a big way. And of all of the songs on the album, it lends itself really well to a big concept video done in over-the-top 80s style ala "Gypsy," with dry ice, mirrors, big hair, and even bigger drama. I think FM would get a lot of positive notices for doing a rehash of the 80s in a tongue-in-cheek way that at once plays homage to their legacy, yet parodies it in a sincere way. And as we all know from the SYW promo photos, Stevie can still pull off the big hair New Jersey mall chick look. ;-)

As much as I love EFO and RTTG, I don't see them being the next single. I would have to say either Thrown Down or possibly WTWCT or even Miranda. Granted, if EFO was a Stevie solo song, it would totally be a single.. but I don't see it as a FM single. I guess we just have to wait and see. They still play Peacekeeper from time to time on the classic rock station here.. and SYW is on the radio all the time on various stations.

Thinking it over, perhaps "Everybody Finds Out" could have some success in dance remixes like "Planets Of The Universe" did... so it wouldn't be so insane to have it released as a single.

Although, radio-friendly tunes in the album... to me, there are just two left: "Thrown Down" and "Steal Your Heart Away". The others just wouldn't make it.


Song of the moment - Seven Wonders

CarneVaca is right... "Illume," "Running Through The Garden," and "Smile At You," would never fly as singles.

If "Smile At You" had been arranged more along the lines of the earlier outtake versions, it would have had a good shot at rock radio formats, but the 'Say You Will' version would not.

"Illume" and "Running Through The Garden" are just too avant-garde for radio, which has gotten very conservative these days.

We all love them (well, most of us at least), but radio programmers would take one listen, and move on.

"Everybody Finds Out" would be a risky release, but Warner Bros. has exhibited some level of risk in some of their past Mac singles choices (eg: "Tusk," "Sisters Of The Moon," "Peacekeeper")... and as far as risky songs go, "EFO" probably has the best shot at radio play of any of the more "edgy" songs on the album.

If I were picking, I'd choose "Thrown Down."
It's already been given some exposure thru 'Friends,' and it's just a great song all around. Relatable lyrics, a solid chorus, excellent vocals and production, and, most importantly, it would sound good on the radio.

"Destiny Rules" is another track I would ear-mark for a single, for all the same reasons as "Thrown Down."

Of Lindsey's tracks, I'd pick "Miranda."
Sure, the subject matter is dark, but it's a bit reminiscent of Shawn Colvin's "Sunny Came Home" in that way, and "Sunny" received a ton of airplay when it was released.

"What's The World Coming To" might be a good choice too... some fans have already reported hearing it on the radio.
But, in my opinion, the production is a tad bland and would definitely need a "punchier" remix for there to be any hope of mass radio play.

And, of course, I've been lobbying for "Bleed To Love Her" to be released as a single, since 1997... so I've gotta mention that one too! :)

I don't see Thrown Down going over very well on the radio at all. I think it would sink like a stone. I think that out of Lindsey's songs, Miranda and Steal Your Heart Away would be good choices. If Come didn't have such a freaky vocal and wasn't so...bombastic and it was shortened quite a bit, it would sound good on the radio. It's somewhat dirty enough for radio these days. :laugh:

Out of Stevie's songs, I think that Destiny Rules and EFO would be good choices. RTTG is, like Johnny said, too avant-garde. I can't see too many folks getting into the lyrics on that song. Illume would never make it on the radio because not a single station would play it. :laugh:

I think Steal Your Heart Away and Thrown Down are the strongest candidates for a third single release. But they need to back it up with an original video (not a stage performance) and some TV appearances if it stands any chance of being noticed.

Running Through the Garden won't be released because it was already serviced to radio with Say You Will (radio received both songs on promo CD). Aside from that, I don't think it would make a strong single release today. It's a little dated with its Euro-pop rhythm section. However, I think if it had actually been recorded for Rock a Little, it may actually been a hit then.
