It’s a little broken triad pattern, very easy to play while you’re singing, so I guess she played it on tour, too. But that pentatonic intro and bridge is not a Christine thing. Rick Vito did that part on guitar on the tours he did with Mac with a rapid tremolo.

There’s a demo of “Everywhere” floating around somewhere, which was first aired on a Timothy White interview on the radio back around 1988 or 1989. You can hear the DX7 on that prominently (it sounds like a digital suitcase Rhodes and it was very common on all those sappy love ballads of the 80s). I don’t think that demo keyboard was kept on the album cut — all I can hear on “Everywhere” is a very phat pad. But as John Run noted, she didn’t even play that on tour, instead switching to maracas.

I’ve always loved the warmth of that demo. It’s brief but it has a certain texture and character the final version lacks.

Warmth is the key description. The album cut while ok is just too programmed and stale compared to how it could have been. You add some warmth and play it a little like it is done live, and the song would have been a bitter hit IMHO. Lindsey synthed it too much. It almost has a robotic feel to it at times.

Everywhere is wonderful work of pop music craftsmanship and perfectly fitting vocal performance. The fact that it is the 3rd most streamed song in the Fleetwood Mac catalog is further evidence it is one of the most enduring songs of the Rumours era band and has identified with a generation of music listeners who are likely a different (younger) demographic than the make up of this forum. Agreed that’s it’s a piece of great craftsmanship and arrangement. I’m not surprised to see it at #3 on the band’s streaming. The vamp at the end (where she plays the melody to Rhapsody on a Theme from Paganini) is irresistible. But I do prefer the warmth of her voice and the guitar on the demo.

Love that Oh Daddy is on that list, too! That one DOES surprise me a bit, given its melancholy. And it’s above SYLM, OMH, or Hold Me—shocker!
