That Motels song is my favorite. I remember the video was in rotation, too.

Both of you have great taste. "Only the Lonely" is a great song.

As silly 12 year olds on the verge of being a teenager, we used to say in Jr High that she sings Only The Lonely Get Laid once in the song.

“Hold Me” got some love in the rock press, too. It may sound recherché to us now (a little like the Buckingham McVie album), but the public thought it was catchy. I remember that the LA Times’ Robert Hilburn (who always preferred the adventurous and raw) named it one of the ten best radio singles of first half of 1982 (along with “Maid of Orleans” by OMD and “A Town Called Malice” by the Jam), even though he thought the album as a whole was a too-safe retread (he may have been the first actual rock writer to say so).

Rock radio was especially bland in 1982 (the really good stuff from ABC and Grandmaster Flash and Springsteen that year tended not to get airplay). A few people wondered where Tusk had got to. The band settled in to a groove to what? get another no. 1 album? Some of that is unfair — Mirage actually sounds a lot more inventive than much of the junk in 1982. I think we all agree that the album is more craft than heart, but the craft is quite clever.

It really has a beautiful vocal. And the music is a tad haunting.

Only Fleetwood Mac could make a song that’s like 90% chorus, and the chorus only being two words repeated over and over, sound so good and so catchy.

I never liked Eye of the Tiger that much. Though I won’t say I can’t believe it was number one for several weeks, and #2 in 1982. With all the marketing that went into the movie, is completely believable.

There are songs I read in these charts I had completely forgotten, like You should hear how she talks about you or Wasted on the way. And I still don’t remember Caught up in you.

I love old countdown shows. The songs bring me back to exactly where I was at the time. This was the summer of 1982. The songs remind me of camping with my friend's family that summer. That Kenny Rogers song Love will turn you around was from his 1982 summer movie Six Pack. Most of the songs you still hear today except that Kenny Rogers song and that Paul McCartney song Take It Away. Its also sad to see how many people are not around. I believe the old singer of Survivor who sang Eye of the Tiger passed away years ago and so did David Crosby, Donna Summer, and Kenny Rogers. Speaking of Donna Summer, I dont recall that song that is on the chart. I looked it up on youtube and swear I never heard it before.
