This interview is so fascinating. He sort of bashes Bella Donna and says SDMHA is not "typical" of the album and is Tom Petty and his band. "Its more Tom Petty than Stevie." Then he questions if she wants to step out of the shadows of Fleetwood Mac then why use Tom Petty and Don Henley as the new shadows. The interviewer calls Lindsey out sounding bitter. He says Stevie's involvement in Fleetwood Mac is limited because she does not produce or play music. "Stevie is not an effective member in the studio" OUCH!
He is asked directly if he is still in love with Stevie and he gives a very murky answer. He then says people tell him all the time that Stevie is still in love with him the way she looks at him.

Its funny when he says SDMHA is not "typical" of Bella Donna "from what he's heard." He does not want to admit he's heard the album.

I suppose this was the era when he called her solo concerts a "lounge act."
Rick Vito stops playing guitar and has to go over and offer his hand to get Stevie back on her feet. This show is from Albany, NY. Its the same night of the incredibly strange Stand Back where Stevie wont sing and the song goes on for a long time before catching rhythm again. I think she had taken a klonopin with a shot of whiskey before this show.
Happens around 6:30

This could have been posted in any forum, but what caught my attention was N.6, a Post-Rumours lineup that technically never existed. At first, I thought the author considered the 1990 and 1995 lineups so poor that he merged them into one. Then I realize he merged several lineups, since Fleetwood Mac actually had… how many, 13 lineups? So it seems he analyzed eras based on years rather than lineups, though he did start the article talking about lineups. Humm, I’m not sure how much sense it makes to place The Dance, Say You Will, and the tours with Christine come back in the same era.

Anyway, the one with the lowest score is actually the one we refer to here as the Present Band; a score with which I agree, even though Christine and Stevie were there. I admit my judgment is emotional. But since there wasn't even an album, I find it very hard to even call it a lineup, and I still was so angry that year that I hardly called it Fleetwood Mac.

Beautiful Child was inspired by a brief fling with a married man and former Beatles road manager Derek Taylor. Taylor called Stevie Beautiful Child which really annoyed her at the time.

Stevie was really bouncing around with boyfriends and flings around the Tusk era.

For years, Stevie Nicks left the meaning of “Beautiful Child” largely unexplained. The haunting Fleetwood Mac song appeared on Tusk in 1979, but it wasn’t until decades later that Nicks revealed the track was inspired by her brief relationship with Derek Taylor.

Among the five songs Nicks wrote for the album, “Beautiful Child” leans into a softer, more vulnerable side of her songwriting. The piano and vocals make it sound like a lullaby, but the lyrics are about wanting someone despite the age gap and knowing the relationship won’t last.

Nicks eventually explained the story behind the song during a 2013 Q&A. “‘Beautiful Child’ was about a relationship I had with the Royal road manager of the Beatles, whose name was Derek Taylor,” she said. “It didn’t last very long, because he was married, but it affected me very much, because he told me so many stories about the Beatles.”

Taylor was married to Joan Doughty when he and Nicks became involved, and their relationship was brief. What really drew Nicks in was Taylor’s connection to the Beatles. She was fascinated by the stories he had from his time around the legendary band.

He began covering the group as a journalist in 1963 and later worked on a newspaper column “written” by George Harrison with Harrison’s approval. Brian Epstein eventually put Taylor in charge of the band’s press releases, giving him a front-row view of the Beatles and the people around them.

Nicks referred to him as the Beatles’ “royal road manager,” explaining just how much she learned from him.

“Everybody has your road manager,” Nicks said. “We had JC, crazy JC (John Courage), Led Zeppelin had Peter Grant. The road managers are the ones who know everything. And so I learned so much about [Taylor] about the whole world of the Beatles that it was stunning.”

Taylor left more than stories behind, he also ended up giving the song its title. In the 2015 Tusk liner notes, Nicks remembered him reciting poetry to her “in his beautiful English voice” and calling her a beautiful child, a phrase that annoyed her at the time.

However, that phrase stuck with her. Nicks wrote “Beautiful Child” in a single night. She started around midnight on a Sunday and had finished it by dawn.

She later said that her Fleetwood Mac bandmates and the album’s producers didn’t ask what it was about because they understood that it was such a personal song.

Nicks didn’t keep “Beautiful Child” just for herself, though. During the 1979 International Year of the Child, she donated the song and all of its royalties to a United Nations fundraising campaign.

I'm checking the Bob Brunning 2004 book "The Fleewood Mac Story - Rumours and Lies" I recently recovered, I had already given it up for lost until my brother called to say he’d found it in his attic. It’s a long story how it got there.

I had forgotten much of what is in that book, different or not included in Mick's book. One of those things caught my attention; I want to ask if anyone remembers any reviewer or critic saying this about Say You Will:

The new album, Say You Will, was completed in November 2002 and released in April 2003. It immediately entered the UK and US charts and was largely welcomed by reviewers and fans alike. Some reviewers carped a little, referring to it as Rumours: Part Two. But considering Rumours: Part One has now sold upwards of 25 million copies this might be regarded as a huge compliment, and certainly not something likely to worry Warner Bros.

If I had to choose an album as a Rumours 2 -which I don't— it would be Mirage. But not SYW. Not only because Christine isn't on it, but because it's quite different from Rumours.

So there's a new book out about Stevie called Stevie Nicks in 50 Songs where they pick 50 songs and regurgitate/compile things she has said about each one in interviews over the years (how she wrote it, where she wrote it or who it's about or whatever). Seems more like they saw which songs she's talked about a lot and picked those to use the quotes they found.

Anyway one of the songs they picked was Angel, and several of the quotes about it are ones she made in the Tusk doc like the whole bit about how it started out silly but didn't end up silly at all it had an eeriness to it etc...

They then quote her also having said (not necessarily in the Tusk doc) that the song is about Mick and his dashing fashion sense and a watch fob he wore. Now, 24 karat she's always said was about him and his fashion sense and in particular his 24kt watch fob. So I think they f***ed that one up, but was curious if anyone had ever heard that Angel was 1) about Mick and 2) about his fashion and watch fob. :distress:

Now Lindsey reacts to a Sabrina Carpenter video. I can't criticize him for answering I don't know anything about her, since neither do I. Well, I did know she exists cause I remember reading that name somewhere and I thought Could she be Richard's daughter or niece? :)

I guess Leelee is who choose the songs and her point is to ask her father what does he think of current music, songs from these times. This song is nice, but being a pop song, it doesn't have to have a "deeper meaning", which is what she asked. For that, they could make videos with songs that have more intriguing lyrics, not necessarily old ones, although it would be interesting to know what Lindsey thinks of the bands and singers (and songwriters!) of his time.

There are fights in all bands but Jefferson Airplane/Starship's history and infighting is fascinating. It makes Fleetwood Mac seem like Buddhist Monks. When they fought they put their own band members in hospitals. Its incredible how Grace Slick just walked into the band when the other female singer had a baby. No audition and they blew up. Then wild success comes the fighting and they could not use the name Jefferson Airplane and changed it to Jefferson Starship. They started out as sort of acid rock in the late 60s and then morphed into folksy rock in the 1970s. Who remembers Peter Jennings at the 1992 Democratic convention talking about Don't Stop was by Jefferson Starship. They did similar mid 70s rock. I knew this before watching this video but how Grace Slick got fired from the band is beyond freaking cool and crazy. This video tells a slightly different version of the events. Either the band had to cancel a gig because Grace was too drunk to go on stage or they played without her. Either way the crowded rioted because the show was cancelled or the crowd was chanting her name when she was not on stage. Because of this the next night they forced her to go on stage. She dressed as Hitler and was yelling obscenities at the West Germans telling them how the United States kicked their ass in World War 2. The bands 1984 Nuclear Furniture album was good. They had 2 songs make top 5 rock charts but not much pop success or album success. The band got sued again and had to change it to Starship. They went total pop and had 3 #1 songs in 18 months. Yet Grace could not do it anymore. Some say We Built This City is the worst song ever recorded. The demo was an anti establishment punk and rock song but they turned it really pop and made it a different song especially drowning out the meaning of the song. So many lead singers it was hard to keep up. Grace's only baby and daughter came from a band member. They used to hire the Hells Angels as security. Once at a major concert a band member argued with one of the bikers in his beatings of fans and the biker came on stage and punched the band member.

I must say Grace Slick was always the best guest on David Letterman. She is a mind f*** to listen to.

Now THIS is a wild band
