View Full Version : What are the best concert seats you've ever had for FM?

I'm NEVER near the stage.:distress:
I gave it the old college try w/the fan club pre-sale.
Section 8, here I come!
I think my best seats were to the side for the Whole Lotta Trouble Tour. Probably around row 30, I'm thinking. Maybe further.
Philly will be my 8th time seeing Stevie solo or with FM, and that's the closest I ever was.
Anybody stuck with joining me in the Nosebleed Hall of Shame, or have you ever had seats to brag on?

Well, I don't know if this counts, but I sat about 20 feet from Lindsey in a small club in Vancouver during his OOTC tour. It was mindblowing.
Ten years later--I think I'm still buzzing.

Ive never been overly lucky at getting good seats via ticketb*stard... usually am stuck trying to worm my way up by spying empty seats (unless Im audio-recording, then I stay put)
Was pretty close at the TISL shows 10/01 in LA (just outside the pit), and the AH-I benefit on 12/6/01. Moved to a great seat at the Irvine Meadows TISL tour stop too. Sat pretty close to the front of the ballroom at this private Stevie show I saw in 2000. I got to meet Stevie aftewards that night... never never forget it... Im Stephanie, so is she... she signed my handbill "Stephanie Nicks", then "Steph" and "Love" underneath that because she told me "The world always needs love in it".
Ok Im still getting chills thinking about it! :)

I've been blessed and lucky enough to have been front and center and backstage. I'm such a spoiled brat that I've never been further back than the 10th row, other than my first Stevie concert at the the old PHilly spectrum (Wild Heart Tour). I was as high up as humanly possible and in the last row (that is actually part of the concrete wall, LOL!). I got the tickets for my birthday from my parents. My friend and I conned some better seats on the first level. I told the security guard that I was "allergic" to some weird cigarettes that the people around us were smoking and needed to move and the guy actually LET us sit in some seats that were open close to the stage! We were just a couple of kids, so he felt sorry for us. As soon as I saw that stage up close, I was hooked on sitting close forever!
I'm suck a nutball that I also usually buy one of everything they sell at the souvenir stands. I love the look I get when I tell the guy working the stand that I'll take one of everything he's got. My hubby is used to this and needlesstosay, our Visa gets quite the workout that night, LOL!

 I was lucky enough to be second row center stage in Columbus in '97. It was THE best show I ever saw. My wife and I could here Lindsey and Stevie talk w/ each other when they came on stage and inbetween songs. When Lindsey did his guitar solo to Go Your Own Way he was standing right in front of me! Too cool! After that, I turned to my wife and told her that I have seen it all now. Two years later, we named our daughter Lindsay.(yes, OUR Lindsay is w/ an a). The concert always brought a smile to our faces, so we decided to name her Lindsay.... and we also liked the name.........GOTTA LOVE THE MAC!!!!!!

The best concert seats I've had for a Fleetwood Mac show was back in 82 for the Mirage tour. Thing is, it was a general admission show so there were NO seats on the floor. During that show I stood crammed up against the stage for the entire time... even suffered thru Men at Work against that stage! It was the first time I got the Stevie shake :)
Sat 14th row this time around. I've also had 5th row center during the Tango tour and lucked out with front row near center during the Enchanted tour. I've had it good...but I've also had it bad---many shows seen thru binocs!!

As far as how to get such seats, for me it was connections for the backstage stuff. The "band" comp seating is usually a section reserved on the side of the stage, on the first level. Other than that, I went to "ticket agencies" for the front row stuff. Paid out the wazoo! 3 Dance tickets cost more than my monthly mortgage payment, LOL! But, worth it to see the Rumours lineup at least once, at point blank range! I have great memories of my best friend yelling at Lindsey that she loved him, and his strange look and smile in response! Too cool!
I wouldn't get too hyped up about backstage passes. It's not what everyone may think. For FM, it means getting access to a catered room where only some band members MAY visit. Stevie and Christine pretty much never go in. Sometimes Mick and John would show up, but that's pretty much it. John is probably the funniest person I've met in some time! Kind of guy that you'd just want to go get a pizza with! He just can't believe that us "young kids" find him that interesting! Unreal!
Don't get me wrong, it was cool, but you don' t get to roam around backstage at all. Even back in the 80s, security was tight. I lucked out and met Stevie during the Timespace tour, but that was pure magical luck. But, spending an hour with just her was something I'll never forget! The best thing about her is that she's everything you think she is -- purely fantastic! She even wrote me a nice note on a bar napkin (framed now, of course!), and I didn't even ask her to do it! I'll never forget her yelling my name and waving this napkin in the air to give to me! Was definitely a dream come true for me!

Well for Fm, I would have to say my seats the first time were 12th row floor..not great esp when you have mr tall man in front of you. The concert last week, can it be almost a week already, I had 4th row but off to the side...close but to the side, but I think I was lucky considering. Anyhow....my best experience was with Stevie's show...I was 4th row center and got to rush the stage near Edge of Seventeen and was straight in front of her and got to shake her hand. I will NEVER forget that! I had to go to a broker for that one though...
Next time I will pay to get closer....its just so much more personal. I think least. Everyone should at one time in their life get that front row experience with the greatest band ever!

Through the "normal" channels, I scored 3rd row center seats for the Dance tour, on Halloween night in San Antonio! I was the first one in line at a grocery store ticket outlet. Lucky for me, the girl "working the system" (jab at a JT quote, hee) knew her sh*t. This was extra special for me, since it marked the 15th anniversary of the first time I ever saw FM, on the Mirage tour, also on Halloween night, in Austin.
I paid a scalper for 2nd row seats for Stevie on the Enchanted tour. I've lucked out at the venues sometimes, buying tix from people in the parking lot or the box office, in the first 10 rows.
Yes, being that close spoils you rotten!

This past Saturday - 2nd row center (but off to the left) - in Pittsburgh. I was about 12 feet or so from Stevie.
I got them thru ticketmaster last Wednesday on pure luck.
I have yet to write up my review because I am still digesting this unbelieveable experience . . .

Hi, Jake. Here's what she wrote:
"This was a just a cosmic meeting of souls that was bound to happen one day. Your life will be charmed, (like the gypsie) and many good things will come to you -- just be open. See you, bright eyes, somewhere on the other side. Blame it on your precious, little wild heart and never be afraid. Many good things will come to you. Your life will be blessed."

One of the best nights ever! I've got that napkin framed at home.
From what people tell me, if she signs anything at all, it usually just says "with love, Stevie", or something to that effect. It was really amazing because after I got over the initial -o-my-god-i'm-actually-talking-to-stevie freak out, (let alone for an HOUR) it really was a great conversation. I just tried to come off as normal as possible, LOL! I was afraid I'd either pass out or start crying. (Thankfully, I did neither.) I just tried to keep my cool, which paid off since I was allowed to stay while other "fans" were asked to leave. Security was "roping off" a section of the bar so that the band was able to come down and unwind. I just yawned and looked bored, like I hang out with rock starts everyday, blah, blah, blah. (Yeah, RIGHT!). Nevertheless, it worked! That was a long time ago (1991). Seems like yesterday!

My ticket fiasco!
Concert number 1 was at the E Center in September of 1997, thats the first time I saw Fleetwood Mac. I had mono and didn't have tickets. I WON tickets but they were lawn seats. Bad seats and I was too sick to enjoy.
Concert number 2 was at the Convention Center in Atlantic City in November of 1997. I had like front row, of the elevated section. That didn't really elevate at all. I was pretty far back and really disappointed.
Concert number 3..was Stevie in the E Center in June of 1998. I waited in line and got row x!!! I was soooooooooo far back and away and off to the right...awful seats. I never been so disappointed...and most of the seats in front of me were totally empty. Now Id totally move up but then I was scared to get kicked out.
Concert number 4 was Stevie in the Tweeter July of 2001. I waited in line again and got 2nd row! I was in the second row! I was so excited. Until I got there and there was a speaker in front of me. I couldn't even SEE her most of the time. Im sure she didn't know because she kept moving backwards. I was quite upset....until I got to rush the stage and then I was right under her nose. Cool.
Concert number 5 was the Stevie in Atlantic City September 15th 2001. I didn't have seats but after the whole 9/11 thing and missing my concert in NYC ( I had tickets for that but it was cancelled) so we drove to AC and just took a chance. We got bad seats and were sad but at least we got seats. So we took the time and got very drunk. And then this sweet girl gave us two 10th row seats! So we were really close up. We were really drunk though thinking we weren't going to have good seats...plus that time was rather stressful. So...
My seats were ok but not great.
Don't ever get drunk before a show!

I think my four golden moments with tickets would be these four shows.
1) Lindsey Buckingham March 25,1993
I was right in front and the man literally hovered over me during his I'm So Afraid and Go Your Own Way guitar solos. Awesome experience. I got to shake his hand!!!
2) Stevie Nicks October 12, 1996
On the Boston Common, a free show sponsored by a local radio station. Got there first thing in the morning to get front spot and she went on around 5:30.
She did about seven songs and it was great!!!
3) Fleetwood Mac September 17, 1997
Opening night of the Dance tour, got to hear one of my favorite songs done "Eyes Of The World" the only show where they played this song. I slept out for tickets I got 13th row section C and was in good view of Christine. I was hoping for better tickets but there was mass demand.
4) Stevie Nicks Enchanted May 27,1998
Again, another opening night show and I slept out and hit jackpot this time,
row 3 section A, very close and it was great.
Other shows I have been to have been farther away and still very good but these four were simply the BEST!!!

Rochester NY, 1975, opening for Loggins and Messina. Festival Seating, open floor. I was standing on the stage, I could reach out and grab Stevie's ankles.

I have been up front a silly number of times.
Fleetwood Mac -
Tango - Front Row
BTM - 2nd Row
Dance - Front Row twice
Tusk/Mirage - decent seats but as a crazy teen stage rushed for the last five or six songs.
The best by far were the intimate Stevie shows....
TISL Showcase in Hollywood - Front and Center, open floor, 4' high stage. Could reach out and touch her and Sheryl. Plus, met Stevie and hung out with her afterwards. I could write a whole post about that.
SA First Show/ Final rehearsal at Roxbury Club - Front and Center, open floor, very low stage. Stevie wore this wild brown suede dress. Looked and sounded amazing.
2 House of Blues shows LA end of SA Tour - Same deal, front center, open floor. Wow did she change during that tour. Still sounded strong, but all the new songs gone, and big baggy dresses. But, she seemed to have a great time. We sure did !
The last great Rhiannon I ever witnessed.
2 Millenium Shows HOB LA - The usual stage apron perch. Tons of fun, and she had the rhinestone Reeboks ! I ought to check my ticket stubs because I may have gone three times...
Needless to say, the Stevie shows at clubs were awesome. It just doesn't get any better than being five feet away, when the stage is 5' tall or lower. Like a concert in your living room.
I admit it. I have been spoiled. But I ain't complainin'.

Hmmmm. "best" as in "closest to the stage" or "best" as in best view AND sound?
Closest to the stage:
Thanksgiving night 1975, Santa Monica Civic Auditorium:
3rd row center (seated directly in front of me...Bob Welch!! Who was dressed exactly as he's pictured on the inner sleeve of the first Paris LP)
Best View AND Sound: A toss up:
December 1979, GW Forum (2nd night of their 5 night stay):
11th row center...my first time ever having floor seats at the Forum...the only night of the 5 night stay that the USC Marching Band showed up!
Last night of the Behind The Mask tour, 1990...GW Forum:
Directly in front of the sound/light board area. Could hear the lighting director calling the "shots" between songs (as to which lighting program was next; warning the spotlight controllers where to aim, etc). It was a bit distracting at first, but I could tune in & tune out at my leisure after a while. I heard the sound engineers saying something about "Lindsey's guitar" before he made his surprise appearance mid-set on "Landslide" (I'd turned around and asked, "Lindsey's going to come out & play!??!"; the reply to which was just four guys smiling broadly and nodding their heads!) and later on "GYOW" and the encore tunes.
That's if you don't count sitting across the aisle from them at an Eric Clapton concert; or, sitting at the adjacent table from Mick, John & Lindsey at a Walter Egan club show.

Your best days seem to be behind you. How did we ever get you
to a Stevie concert? Lookin' for a wife? How's THAT going for you?
Will you go to any of these new concerts or will Stevie ruin it
for you...her best days being behind her as well.? You kinda invited bites on that thread...I must be the only one to feel Stevie
should have quit long ago...consider yourself...bitten.

Mostly enough time to write and post before my access is denied by the server. I have written this twice already !
Well, I did post a review of this show at the Nicksfix, which details the concert experience, but doesn't really mention much about meeting Stevie.
My pal and I had both met her before, but it is always a surreal and almost out-of-body experience. It's like meeting a character out of book. But then again, it isn't. Because, Stevie is about the most genuine, down to earth celebrity I have ever met. Unlike many performers I deal with (professionally), she looks you in the eye, listens, and is actually interested in what you have to say. Plus, she is very funny.
I think at this event, since it was mostly industry people, the guests hadn't heard the record. And, probably weren't real fans either. But, of course we had heard it, and the demos, quite some time before the show. Stevie was delighted to hear the feedback and seemed really interested in talking about the production, song structure, changes from demos, etc. Everything people say about her energy is true - you feel you have known each other forever. It is uncanny. She is so kind and warm. She thanked US for coming, hugged us and told us to take care of ourselves. Of course we pretty much floated home.
Another cool thing about this night was talking to Lori, who was thrilled we could hear her on the record and that we missed her on tours. But, as she said, she is very busy being a mom and that is where she should be. Again, what a tremendously nice woman.
I get all goofy just thinking about that night. It was really something. Sometimes, things fall into place, and life can feel like a perfect dream. That was one of those nights.

The best seats I ever had were for the AHI benefit 2001. I had front row.
The best seats I had for a Mac show were 8th row for the Dance in Mansfield, Ma, I got from a scalper.
I got 8th row for the Cleveland show this past Tuesday and I bought them about 11 days before the show.
I also got 3rd row for TISL in Mansfield, Ma just 4 days before the show.
I have crappy seats for Worcester and I hope that I have good luck getting a seat in the first 10 rows.

I had 4th row for the dance. Lindsay waved to me! I'm still thrilled about that!
I had the same 4th row seats for TISL, but she cancelled because she was sick. I was at work when I found out, and cried so bad, I had to leave work to go home and compose myself. So I bought 11th row for Cleveland, and the damn guards would'nt let me to the stage to shake her hand. Again, I cried like a baby and my hubby had to drive home. All he could say is "I'm so sorry, honey..."
Dammit, I will either meet or shake that womans hand before I die.
I 'm almost crying just thinking about it...

The thing about Stevie, she always comes across as special and makes each fan feel special as well. This is proof.
