View Full Version : What I WOULDN'T "Stand" For

Now that I think about it, there was one thing about the concert in Pittsburgh that pissed me off. It had nothing to do with the band either. After Rhiannon, Lindsey starting playing Come, and as if people were prompted, almost the entire floor section sat down. Naturally I looked around and was like, "maybe we're supposed to sit" until I saw some people standing on the other side. Throughout Come I was so pissed because I didn't want to just stand up in the middle of it all by myself, so at the end I got up for a "standing ovation" and then REFUSED to sit down again like everyone else did. Then, everyone got back up for Gypsy and SAT DOWN for Big Love! How could people be so calm about this GREAT show to SIT DOWN and make me feel not only like a moron but like a putz for standing and blocking the view for the people behind me! I stood the rest of the time...people sitting was something I could NOT stand for.

I refused to sit down at the DC show. How could you sit down on that performance??? Lindsey was kicking some serious ass. In fact, it was only myself, my friend, the couple diagonal from us and like, 4 people directly behind me standing...everyone else sat. I never sat at all. At one point, it was like, me standing and looking at Lindsey...I saw him kind of glance over at me but he was hardcore into those songs. I plan to stand the entire duration of the AC show as well  Philly, since my seats are GHETTO and i'm like, up and out and over and nowhere near the stage, i'll probably have to sit because seat people get angry when you stand and sing and dance...lol

some people like to sit, some fans are surely not as young as they used to be, standing isn't good for you..for 2 and a half hours, forget that mess! If people are sitting, I will sit, if they stand..I will stand only to see over them, I don't think I could stand watching someone play guitar for 2.5 hours, that's just me, I like "shows" more than concerts anyway, with dancing and more of a concept than the regular rock shows(that are still amazing of course but just not as..imo)

Those sitter-downers can BITE ME...when he does Come, ISA, GYOW, etc...I'm standing, screaming, jumping, etc. LOL During The Chain, I'll be a freakin psychopath! I'll prob sit for Landslide and Goodbye Baby, but other than that...prob not. :distress: I mean, my mom, she'll be all "You paid for that seat, why don't you sit down?" And I'm gonna say "That seat is good for two things....standing in it if you can't see over the sea of heads (but I'm in the lower balcony and that shouldn't be a problem) and for sitting during the really boring stuff...like Mick's solo." LMAO!! Actually, that will probably amuse me, since I've never seen it live..only on a video, but I prob won't stand for it.

I like to Stand and I did for the Vegas TISL shows. When I saw the Eagles with my hubby everyone kept sitting! I was amazed. It wasn't until the encore (Hotel California) that people stood and stayed standing!

SItting or standing...doesn't matter to me, as long as I'm there. I don't think that standing makes you a better "fan" or anything. Everyone paid to get in. That's appreciation enough (especially at those ridiculous prices) in my opinion. If you want to stand and jump or sit and relax, either should be fine. It is definitly a different (more subdued) crowd then say a Metallica show but that is expected.
Take it easy:cool:

Though I respect your desires to stand and be a psychopath you should respect the person behind you if they can't see and are not capable of standing because of their age or other reason - but you already knew that.:)

How very Christian. Pray hard you're not sitting or standing next to me, because I will slap you silly. I am going to hear THEM not YOU. Being at a concert doesn't give you free reign to act like a jackass on crack. Have a good time but keep other people and their sensibilites in mind. They may not WANT to put up with you, either. :wavey:

I went thru this at the TISL show in Dallas. I am going to be jamming and dancing and I tried to do it in the isle but I kept getting told to go to my seat. I am not in the mood to sit and I paid my money like everyone else. I hate that the people behind me were crabby and not enjoying the show but I am not going to be confined to my chair for any reason. I had a much better time at the Houston show. There was a great vide going on and no one sat down were I was. I am going to be going nuts the entire concert. If you are behind me I apologize in advance.:wavey:

Although I would respect a disabled person, or an elderly person (at least try to find them ANOTHER SEAT, LOL!)...
You'd have to SEDATE me to get me NOT to dance! That's what concerts are for and screw everyone who wants you to "sit down". Man go listen to the CD in your comfie living room cause I want to boogie down!

I was considerate in Vegas. A guy with a broken leg sat behind us so we swapped seats with him...he was happy he was a row closer. Then a heavily pregnant lady sat behind us... can you believe it? Again we swapped and she was happy... and we were too cause we were right in front of the sound box and disturbing no-one! This was the second night and a welcome relief after having stuff thrown at us on the first night to see. I'm sorry but I hadn't seen Stevie live in 12 years...I'd flown half way round the world on a weekend - no way was I sitting!

UH OH!!
I would be respectful if someone was physically unable to stand. I just get sooo tired of everyone telling the standers to be respectful of the sitters. Wheres the respect for us?? I've was also pelted and screamed at, at Vegas. I have floor seats for OKC so maybe this wont be an issue, but then again my Vegas seats were floor.

That happened to us at The Dance concert in Philly (Camden). I was pissed because all we'd done was stand - no noise or anything, and all the rows ahead of us were standing, too. We couldn't see, otherwise!

I HOPE my row sits the hell down. Because that's what I'll be doing the WHOLE time. I personally enjoy a show better sitting down. What's with you people and standing up. Is it that important to dance around like idiots. I'm going to SEE and HEAR THE BAND. I'm not going to a dance recital. Maybe when i go to a football game alot of rowdiness is all right, but not for the event of my life.

Try being 6' 4" and very, very animated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But, I really always try to be considerate; it is hard however, when everyone is standing and I, therefore, have to stand as well. I have spent many a concert turned sideways to allow people behind me to have a fighting chance to see :]

This concert I was lucky as I got to sit in the 4th row but to the side going up. Everyone could stand or sit and no one's view was obstructed....this was nice as I remember standing when people around me were sitting, and I was looking to see if people could see.
I was worried cause I remember my Dance concert...I was on floor 12th row..and was so happy....until the show started and there were two guys in front of me who were sooooooooo tall. I could not see much when we stood, which was most of the show. I remember crying that night so disappointed.
So yes its nice to be considerate of others, but then once again when you think of the money spent, I can see the point on doing what you want.
I think this is a topic that will never be solved.

Amen to that. Nothing worse than when these IDIOTS start with the "I paid $125 so I can get up and push past you 200 times to get to the bathroom and then come back and dance around like a retarded 4 year old" crap. Sit down and shut the hell up. I paid to see and hear THE BAND (whoever it is) and not YOU. And trust me, no one else wants to hear you either. Something about concert going that brings out the self-entitlement psychosis in some people.

I honestly believe that they feed off the energy of the audience. I went to both DC and Pittsburgh ( I was in the front row at Pittsburgh) and I swear they had a better night in Pittsburgh just because it was a better crowd. I was about 4 seats away from being directly in front of Stevie, and I never sat down the entire time and neither did anyone else around me or behind me. We were having a blast and so was the band. The DC crowd sat for a great deal more of the show and I think the band actually took note. But if you like to sit, then sit down! Just don't get pissed if other people don't want to, unless they're like 7 feet tall and 400 pounds and you can't see a damn thing because they're blocking the view. That's not cool.

Yeah, hmm...God forbid people have fun. That's just not the thing to do at a concert. But you know what, SomethingofaDreamer is right. The Pittsburgh show gained more and more energy as the crowd stood and cheered. I know if I were in a rock and roll band, I would NOT want people sitting, and I would honestly take offense if they were. Peacekeeper seemed to be just plain Peacekeeper until Lindsey saw how excited I was to be there, and THAT'S the truth. I think it's insulting to sit there and call me "like a 4 year old retard" just because the band is creating so much adrenaline in me that I want to stand. I actually just watched The Dance yesterday, and it seemed rather dull with the audience sitting, especially during a song like I'm So Afraid.
Anyway, I'm not going to keep arguing and make this into a 150 post thread that needs closed. My intention was NOT to start an argument...I was simply wondering HOW people, who are obviously huge enough fans to pay $125 for a floor seat, could not be that excited. I didn't know it'd begin to erupt a civil war.
By the way SomethingofaDreamer, WHERE in the front row were you? You probably saw me as well as I saw you.

Janine and I were in the fifth row tonight in Cleveland, and couldn't believe all the people sitting down. There was one point (during Beatiful Child) that we were literally the only ones left standing. Someone behind us kept bugging us to sit, and we finally did for the end of "Beautiful Child", but we were immediately up again after that.
I look at it this way: if you really want to sit, don't buy floor seats, especially those so close to the stage, where the energy level is most definitely higher.

I sit during the very low key songs, but otherwise, I am amped up and moving. That is one reason I almost always get pit seats. It is usually the maniacs who have to be up close, and we are so excited we can't contain ourselves. I guess it's just different personality types. I am happy to sit down and read for four hours, but am just as likely to be in the pool, lifting weights, or out running a few miles. Music makes me move. When amped up, I express it physically. Last month, I was drug to see Bon Jovi (AGAIN), and even though I am not a huge fan, I got into the animal scene of it. I yelled, danced, sang along, and took off my shirt. Nothing thrown at me, though I did get groped. Guess I am an animal, and animals belong in the pit !

I am so glad to see other people with the same complaint.
I had 5th row seat for Cleveland and was so excited to be so close to Stevie. All the other people up in the front were sitting except for Josh and I. Then the people behind us had the nerve to tell us to sit down and that I could enjoy the show just the same sitting down:mad: I didn't wait 7 years and pay $125 to sit while the best band in the world played 15ft from me.

I was at the Cleveland show in row RR on the floor. I was suprised that everyone sat down when Come started. I think that most people were not familiar with the song. Once the killer guitar playing started the whole floor stood up again.
I also try to be considerate to others & if the rows in front of me are sitting then I will sit also. At this show I sat only twice: once when Come started & during Beautiful Child.
I agree that during the higher energy songs that the band feeds off of our energy as well. How do you think they would feel if during Stand Back, Rhiannon, Come, ISA, everyone just sat there and politely applauded. It would SUCK!

Re; the energy comment...
I was at a private Stevie show in 2000. Before she went into GDW, she spoke of how each song is unique each time its played, because Stevie "feels" the audience energy and it helps create the mood for the night. So she said, "This is YOUR Rhiannon, not just my Rhiannon". they DO feel the energy and I feel can get more into the show if the audience was more energetic. Most musicians Ive been privlidged to see live are the same.

My friend and I (and the guy next to my friend) didn't sit down the entire time at the Columbus show. People next to us did...people behind us did....tons of people in our floor section 1 did.
I would not be coerced into following these lackluster fans, however...so I stood there and rocked out while they sat on their butts!
How could anyone SIT DOWN during a performance like the ones FM is giving on this tour?!? It's beyond me.

LOL! I agree about not wanting to hear anyone else. Sure, everyone gets caught up and wants to sing along to Landslide now and then, but there always seems to be some people who must think that if they sing loud enough so that Stevie can hear them, she will immediately hire them to be one of her back up singers. (And they always seem to be men!!)
As far as sitting goes, I guess it's almost a majority rules thing. If people in front of me are standing, I'm going to stand because I want to be able to see. When you look around at the audience of a Fleetwood Mac or Stevie Nicks concert though, you will see a wide range of ages. I saw a grandmother with her granddaughter on the last Stevie tour. Some peolpe can't stand for 2.5 hours. And let me just nip in the bud the whole "then buy the cd and listen to it at home, because I paid $125.00 to do what I want" attitude. Because the little old lady who can't stand up for that long could say "If you want to dance and sing, buy the cd and dance around your living room" to you folks too, so who's right? What's wrong with compromise? Stand at the beginning and end of a song, and remember how lucky you are to even be able to afford a seat to this concert to be able to sit in.

I agree that the band appreciates standing energy and that a crowd that refuses to do anything but sit and clap is a big disappointment for them. Of course people who are tired can sit and I don't think they're lesser fans.
But anyone who thinks that it's "retarded" for people to want to sing and dance during a friggin' ROCK CONCERT needs to get the rod out of his butt. Geez.

Lol, no I wasn't. I was off toward stage left -- Lindsey's side. You might have seen me freaking out as he looked over my way many times. Although I dont mind dancing... I would prefer if people did sing to themselves. Some people sing really LOUDLY and REALLY out of TUNE! Detracts from the band. By all means, hum along and sing to yourself, but have some respect for those who may not want to pay to hear YOU sing. This is all IMO, mind you.

Unfortunately it doesn't. :( I'm skinny with the same kind of hair but more blonde than brown. I was wearing one of the new overpriced t-shirts with a long sleave tee under it.
