View Full Version : I'm so afraid . . .
that Stevie wouldn't hold up during this tour. Now I'm not trying to jinx her or anything, but you know she got sick during the TISL tour. Now I'm hearing how she has to be helped on & off the stage b/c of her hip. Just how serious is this hip problem? Is it arthritis? Does anyone have any inside info? I hope she's not in serious pain. I'd hate to hear that she's really hurting. Maybe I'm just being a worry wart. From all the reviews I'm reading, it sounds like she's having a good time & is having no problem singing her heart out.
I can't wait to see the Mac in Philly. I guess I'll get to see first hand how Stevie is. I'll be 16 rows from the stage, not extremely close, but I'll have my little binoculars just in case I can't see too good b/c I'm nearsighted anyway.

I hope that she'd put on black Keds before those platform boots if she's having problems...

I agree. I think the fact that she's in boots is a good sign. Let's just all keep sending Stevie healthy vibes :)

Stevie always has help getting up/down and around backstage during shows. ALL "rock stars" do, it's usually dark, and there are lots of electrical cables snaking around the floor. It's the job of the roadies to have flashlights, towels, water (and back in the day, other substances) and escort the musicians on/off the stage.
And as a woman, I feel qualified to say, that platform shoes are actually quite comfortable. However, they do make it difficult, at times, when walking on any uneven surfaces (like gravel, uneven pavement, stairs).
I wouldn't worry too much about THAT. However, Stevie does tend to get ill quite often, which is another reason I decided to go to one of the earlier shows (and still haven't booked my travel for the others).

To my knowledge, there is footage of SN, as well as the rest of the band, being helped onto and off of stage since at least the Tusk concert. My guess is SN gets help because it is dark, she is in the huge shoes, she really cannot see that well even now and in the light, she is 55 or so years old, and, like any other member, if she hurts herself, the tour is in trouble. So, her getting escorted onto and off of stage does not really concern me that much.
As for her not dancing, I think she may be having some of the hip and foot problems she eluded to. However, I think alot of it is she is being respectful of LB and his incredible, incredible playing and does not want to take away from that. For example, in the past, she often stood to the back and the side during LB's playing GYOW. It is, after all, a two part vocal act, etc. Yet, when SN twirls and or makes some big movement, it for some reason sends the crowd up, up, and away seemingly more than anything else they do on stage.
Thus - my two cents!!!

I totally forgot the fact that she's nearly blind.... likely why she needs help!

She's not anymore, she had that laser eye surgery done - I think before the BTM tour....

I think the surgery she had only can "cure" the inability to see things far away. I could be, however, totally wrong. :)

I can understand the consideration that she's always helped off stage and everything, but there was something definitely different. You could see it in the WAY she walked, a little hunched over and sluggish. At one point she was walking all right but then all of the sudden had to grab onto Lindsey as she walked past. I think she even grabbed her hip once. She didn't even go off stage to change shawls, she just walked over to the side of the stage and changed them there...is that normal?

I have no idea if this is relevant, but according to one of the reviews at www.nicksfix.com during one of the Enchanted tour shows, Stevie did not do her usual walk around the lip of the stage during EO17 and pointed to her back as it was causing her pain, etc. So, maybe that is it as lower back pain can cause hip pain, etc. I hope she is OK in any event!

Hip problem, you say?
Who's the "journalist" who called Stevie the Liz Taylor of Rock?
That's right on.
Let's reflect.
As Gilda Radnor used to say, it's always something.
If it isn't being too skinny/frail in her youth, it's the fatigue.
If it isn't being overweight, it's not enough carbs in the diet.
If it isn't a dangerous drug addiction, it's resentment over an intervention.
If it isn't the drugs putting a hole in her nose, it's the drugs making her fall off the stage during her spins.
If it isn't alcohol, it's coke. Or prescription drugs.
If it isn't the death of someone close, it's giving up a child.
If it isn't depression, it's manic work-a-holicism. Or lethargy.
If it isn't being in love, it's being lonely.
If it isn't Epstein-Barr virus, it's the implants leaking.
If it isn't trouble with the IRS, it's trouble with Lindsey.
If it isn't missing Christine 'til it hurts, it's the hip that ages even when the face doesn't.
Stevie might get sidelined again, but she'll always be back! :)
