View Full Version : How come Stevie uses that thingy?

What's with Stevie and that little gizmo that hangs down by her waist when she is on stage?! It looks awful and she ought to toss it into the bleachers! She never used it back in the 70's and 80's and I don't think she had it on the Dance Tour either. Am I wrong, or does she look frumpy and constrained hauling that stupid thing around? Did she develop a hearing problem in the past few years? It makes her look like an old woman to me. She didn't need it on the Mirage Tour concert where she looked absolutely beautiful. What gives? Bill

Lol, that's the power pak thingy for her in-ear monitor! (you know, on all the 'reality' type shows they have a similar thing for their mic's usually stuffed down the back of their pants?) I guess she didn't want to 'stuff it' anywhere

Wow..you know..the way you worded that,damn...LOL...anyway...yea...BeachGypsy is right..it is so she can hear herself and adjust how she sounds..it does look odd hanging off her dress like that..but since she doesn't exactly exercise her right to wear something other that than Dress..there aren't a whole lotta places she can put it.

TUSK 57...please give Stevie a break. My God, comparing her now to the Mirage tour. That was 21 years ago!!! Tell me how you are going to be the same person, looking the same way, doing the same things, performing the same way and feeling the same way two decades from now? If so, refer me to your fountain of youth.

As far as I know, Stevie is human. It's so unfair to compare their past to who and what they are now. Of course, I respect and understand your opinions. (I'm just a few years older than you, so you know what aging is all about!)

I guess I should have used the ridiculously overused and limp phrase that seems to be part of the vernacular here: "Don't get me wrong." eeeh!

Maybe I've had one too many coffees this morning.

Thanks for the explaination of what it is, but I'm wondering why she has to use one at all? She never used to need one. Did she get hard of hearing or something? Lindsey doesn't use one, thank goodness! It looks ridiculous and most definitely unsexy! While I'm at it, she should go back to wearing shorter dresses like what she wore on her Bella Donna tour. Her hairstyle today is a poor choice. She looked better on the Dance tour, or even better on the Mirage tour. I wonder why she feels she has to change it all the time? Why mess with perfection? Bill

She used to keep it in a cute little velvet pouch like cover that hung off her dress. If you didn't know what it was, you'd think it was a tiny handbag:)

Well there are lots of singers who use them,so it is not as if she is in the minority.I think maybe she is alot more aware now of how she is singing than she used to be back in the day.

Now as for this not looking like she used, enough already...as long as she is comfortable with how she looks, that is all that matters.I will admit i get tired of seeing that dress, you ya know what? who cares..I'd much rather see her in that singing than not at all.If she tried to look like she did on the Mirage Tour now, she'd look like an idiot..She used to be alot more creative with her look, but i think now it is just easier for her not to have to worry about it.Oh well.

Yep. I remember that - I think she wore that on the TISL tour. It did look like a tiny handbag!

It is to keep her from being tonedeaf. We can hope.

LOL...I'm sorry that just cracked me up!!!! I agree though, I'm thinking that maybe she is aware that she is getting older, and granted she looks damn good...but I'm glad she is not trying to look like way too young or anything, I personally have enjoyed all of Stevie's many different looks...I also agree I'd rather see her wearing something bad with a "thingie" hangin off her than not see her at all...

Um, did they even HAVE in-ear monitors during the Mirage tour?

Okay, seriously though...comparing Stevie's looks in 2003 to the Mirage Video that was recorded in 1982? Come on! What is THAT!? I was just turning TWO when that was recorded in October, and today I just accepted my first post-college job! My point - A WHOLE lot has changed since then! Things aren't going to be the same! For anyone!

I'll agree though that they ALL appear to have really aged since the Dance. John probably the least, but Mick, Linds, and Stevie all look to have aged considerably. No smoking, eating wheat thins...sheesh, maybe being healthy isn't always great!

Okay, okay. Give me forty lashes with a wet noodle! I realize that they can't look the same after 21 years....but I can dream, can't I? ;) Still, my original point about Stevie's bag is still valid. Could you imagine Mick Jaggar lugging around an "ear monitor" while rocking out? To me, singing the perfect note is not as important as the attitude and delivery of a song. Heck, this is rock and roll! A lot of the aging thing is over played as well. I think they can still rock out for another ten years at least. Mind over matter! Give me three more FM albums and I will shut up!:)

I do not think ear monitors were around in general use until the 1990's. But, I could be wrong.

No, they are still 'relatively' new technology.... that's why Stevie had so much trouble with them on TISL... not as someone posted "she didn't know what she was doing with it"...geez i guess now she's supposed to be a sound tech too!
my best friend uses with one in her band since about 96, took awhile to get used to, but she loves it. someone else can explain, if you want, what the old fashioned alternative to an in-ear is...

Tusk57, just so you know, this has nothing to do with normal "hearing" or deafness, it's not a hearing aid!

Mick Jagger? check him out closer.... he LIKES stuufing things down his pants.. but I bet if he saw, Stevie he'd steal the idea for the "purse", LMAO!

If you notice on the Timespace tour when Stevie's band was really loud, she was singing very loudly over them. With the ear monitor, she doesn't have to do that because she can hear herself. And she doesn't have to strain her voice.

Good Lord... everyone gets sick of looking the same. I get sick of the same hairstyle, and I'm sure the lovely Stevie Nicks does too.
And sheesh, the woman will be 55 this month. She could very well be becoming hard of hearing. Please give poor picked on Stevie a break. She can't be everyone's sexy, perfect looking woman all of her life. If you don't like the way Stevie is aging, them may I refer you to Brittany Spears?? She's still young, wears practically nothing, and I'll bet she's not hard of hearing either.....
