I seem to be the only person who prefers Mirage to Tango.
I don't like Red Rover.
When I See You Again grew on me.
I'm not in love with Everybody Finds Out. (It sounds like she wants to be Cher, an older diva with a dance track.) I don't hate it, I even like it, but I love RTTG much more - lyrics, instruments, production.
Fall from Grace is one of my least favorites on TISL, but I like TFFT.
I don't mind the dancers in the Stand Back video. Sign of the times, & they're no on too too much.
With some exceptions, I prefer Chris's earlier work to her later work. Worse, I think she did some great songs post-Lindsey.
I find a couple of Lindsey's songs monotonous on Tusk.
I think Stevie looked better in the Seven Wonders video than in any other.
Empire State doesn't bother me. Family Man does.
Just my (unpopular) opinions. (Flame away. ;) )
What's your most unpopular FM opinion?

I agree with you on these:
I seem to be the only person who prefers Mirage to Tango. (I really didn't like Tango, at all, except for Seven Wonders).
I don't like Red Rover. (This song freaks me out, but so does Come).
I'm not in love with Everybody Finds Out. (It sounds like she wants to be Cher, an older diva with a dance track.) I don't hate it, I even like it, but I love RTTG much more - lyrics, instruments, production. (RTTG is better production I think. I don't like Stevie's voice in the beginning of EFO).
I don't mind the dancers in the Stand Back video. Sign of the times. (The video is dated, for sure - but that song is still one of my favorites of Stevie's solo work).
I find a couple of Lindsey's songs monotonous on Tusk. (Monotonous and weird - I really detest Not That Funny).

What's your most unpopular FM opinion? As far as unpopular FM opinions, I've got a doozy. I only really loved Fleetwood Mac when most of the members were stoned on cocaine or pot (in Christine's case, I could totally dig her when she was either drunk or sober). Related to that, I think they were more interesting in their 20s & 30s than they have been in their 40s & 50s.
P.S. I don't think your opinion about "Mirage" was all that unpopular; I prefer that wonderful album, too.
P.P.S. I know that, here on the Ledge, we can all feel safe in talking about our unpopular FM opinions without being flamed or put down.
I seem to be the only person who prefers Mirage to Tango.
I like them both equally
I don't like Red Rover.
I love Red Rover and think it's probably Lindsey's best on SYW.
When I See You Again grew on me.
ME TOO!
I'm not in love with Everybody Finds Out. (It sounds like she wants to be Cher, an older diva with a dance track.) I don't hate it, I even like it, but I love RTTG much more - lyrics, instruments, production.
Sorry I disagree. I'm still not in love with RTTG but I think on EFO, although it may border on something Madonna or Cher would do, she makes the song her own!
Fall from Grace is one of my least favorites on TISL, but I like TFFT.
Man, our opinions are getting more disagreeing...totally on that point!
I don't mind the dancers in the Stand Back video. Sign of the times, & they're no on too too much.
I didn't like the video period. Most of Stevie's videos are cheesy and this one's no exception. Hell, most videos done in the 80s were pretty lame.
With some exceptions, I prefer Chris's earlier work to her later work. Worse, I think she did some great songs post-Lindsey.
I think Chris has written exceptional songs during her entire tenure in the Mac...she's a constant if there ever was one.
I find a couple of Lindsey's songs monotonous on Tusk.
Uh Huh!
I think Stevie looked better in the Seven Wonders video than in any other.
She looked great in Seven Wonders but better in Hold Me and Gypsy!!
Empire State doesn't bother me. Family Man does.
They both bother me, but Empire State bothers me more.
Ok here's a few of my unpopular opinions:
I want Stevie doing "Rhiannon" on stage with FM or solo any way she wants to do it ...slow or fast...it'll always be one of my favorites...beautiful song. And her signature song imo.
I like "Silver Girl" quite a bit.
I've got a few others but I won't open that can of worms, at least not in the Rumours forum. ;)

Ok, I'll have a go...(putting on the HazMat gear), and away we go...
I think:
Rumours being such a big blockbuster album (saleswise) is the worst thing to ever happen to Fleetwood Mac.
Lindsey & Stevie both should've just quit Fleetwood Mac outright immediately after the Tusk tour. Let the band carry on with other members...THEN when the dust had settled between them, no matter HOW long it took, if it felt right, then just make it a Buckingham Nicks reunion.
Say You Will's sequencing sucks to the point it is unlistenable without reprogramming the running order. (individually, the songs are some of the best they've done, but trying to listen to them in that order is PAINFUL)
Mirage, as an album, seems to sound worse (as in, "boring") upon each successive listen, no matter HOW much I like the individual songs themselves.
Too bad we can't go back in time and put the SYW versions of "Everybody Finds Out" & "Smile At You" on Tango in place of "Welcome To The Room...Sara" & "When I See You Again".

I seem to be the only person who prefers Mirage to Tango.
Well, I have to agree with you on some of these.
I really don't care for Tango that much. Mirage I kind of found a new appreciation for a few years back. I found out that Princess Diana was in that car accident just as "Oh Diane" was playing. I always found that very strange.
I'm not in love with Everybody Finds Out. (It sounds like she wants to be Cher, an older diva with a dance track.) I don't hate it, I even like it, but I love RTTG much more - lyrics, instruments, production.
Well, I have to say that I am not in love with either one of these songs.
I think Stevie looked better in the Seven Wonders video than in any other.
Well, I think that Stevie looked the best in the Mirage 1982 era. Except for her hair.
Empire State doesn't bother me. Family Man does.
I have to agree with that one.

I am NOT a Stevie/Lindsey romantic and I hope they NEVER have an affair, do the deed or get back together in any way, shape or form. I want Lindsey to stay married to the LOVE OF HIS LIFE, Kristen until death do them part!
I LIKE Lindsey's androgynous look ala Tusk. Sue me.

Here is my take. I grew up with this music as I was born in Nov. 1966. Consequently, although I had these records when they originally were released, I did not truly get the adult orientation of the songs until Mirage and then only after a good heart trampling by the most popular and beautiful girl school and our five minute conversation when she asked for help with math and I fell head over heels (OH YOUTH!!!). So, although I like all of the FM records except Time, all of the songs on Mirage will always have more meaning. Similar things happened from then until now. But, all of the songs on Mirage will always be "it" for me in the long run. Also, I still wax romantic everytime Stevie has a hippie ritual onstage (sadly not with Sara anymoe) or rocks the house with a dance song - which is why se better do that with RTTG!!!!! I must say, that although she looked great for TITN, for me she was her best for Tusk and, esp. Mirage (that hair with that white outfit!!!!).
Other details - yes, LB can get on my nerves, esp. his voic (no slams - I love him to death but sometimes not so much). Red Rover would be a good example of this clearly brilliant, but sometimes aggravating nature of LB and I like the song!
Christine was just about perfection in just about all ways. May she live comfortably knowing that once I discovered the song "Why" is best experienced alone and with a large cocktail, my life is much improved!!!
But, hey - to each their own.

Hmmm...
Silver Girl is definitely growing on me BIG TIME (shut your traps and listen to it - and it will on YOU, too!) ...
I like Sheryl Crow, her music... and think that she has been a good influence on Stevie ...
I like the Dixie Chicks, their music... and think that the Landslide video was a nice homage to Stevie (and that their "influence" on Stevie has fit very nicely, in her bank account) ...
I LOVE Stevie's Tango songs - and think that 'The Second Time' on BTM is lovely ...
I've never heard any of Lindsey's solo albums --(flinch!)-- besides the GOS tracks, obviously (hence my switcheroo screen name "Riff Shuffler") - I love those, *so very much*, and will be purchasing Out of the Cradle very shortly (yay!) ...
I adore My Little Demon and Sweet Girl from The Dance as much as the classics on that album ...
I enjoy Mick(!) - it's hard to hold anything against him, when I see him making those insane faces and enjoying himself the way he does on stage. I'm sorry for that one guys, but it's true ...
I'll add more as I think of them!

Here goes:
I HATE Red Rover with a passion. Everything about that song drives me insane. After the first few seconds, I'm ready to pull out my hair.
OSOTM is my fave Stevie album. I know, most people hate it, but I adore it!
Mick isn't as good a drummer as he's cracked up to be. Anyone ever heard of Clem Burke? A god among drummers.
Stevie should not have had anything to do with TITN; she dragged it down incredibly.
Like Chili said, Say You Will's sequencing blows. Peacekeeper, then...Come?!?! Ick.
Besides for a few songs, I despise Mirage. It's FM at their worst (BN line-up).
I hate the way that Stevie cuts demos then uses them twenty years later. I'd prefer new songs that reflect her current state of mind. But I do LOVE the final products!
Stevie looked the best she ever looked in the video for Gypsy. Absolutely stunning!!
I can barely recognize LB in the video for Hold Me. He looks like...someone else.
Christine had some horrid fashion sense back in the day.

<b>I don't care if they ever play Sara live again. </b>
It's an okay song, but it doesn't light my fire at all. I think <i>because</i> it hasn't been played in so long that it has become this mythic creature that everyone is clamoring to see on the stage.
Oh, and -
<b> I do want them to keep playing Dreams forever. </b> I know it is tired and it isn't great live. But to me, that song defines the band and represents everything that I love about their music. (Fortunately, it looks like I never have to worry about this one getting dropped.)

I like "Only over you" and "Mystified"
"That's Alright" is THE WORST Stevie song i've heard
The second half of SYW is really...really boring.
I really hate that single version of "Over My Head"
"My Little Demon" sucks.
I hate the way Lindsey sings the first "to", in "what's the world coming to"

04-28-2003, 08:56 PM
I most DEFINITELY prefer Mirage; it's probably my favorite Mac album (one of them, at least.)
I don't care for Tango much at all, probably because it contains two of the most dreadful Stevie songs in existence.
And my confession (see if you can top this!):
I can't stand HAEWAFY. It's okay live, but I pretty much HATE the album version.

I agree that LB can work the nerves! For example, I cannot even watch one second of him doing "Not That Funny" from the Mirage video. That crazy screaming and moaning is so over the top. It makes me nuts!
I also tend to have the opinion that LB, while an incredibly talented guitar player, songwriter, producer and arranger, can be a big a$$hole at times. For example, it has always bothered me that he did not work to help support himself and Stevie during the early BN days. Stevie worked herself to death at rather menial jobs, and he did nothing but sit home, smoke dope and play guitar. I realize Stevie made the choice to work and wanted Lindsey to stay home because she thought he was "so brilliant", but it still just rubs me the wrong way that he didn't contribute financially. That just tells me alot about that relationship and why Stevie eventually decided to leave . . . .

Unpopular Mac opinions...
I can sit and listen to the whole <i>Say You Will</i> album straight through. I think the track order is fine, and I don't think it's too long.
I like <i>Tusk</i> about 10 times better than <i>Rumours</i>, and I adore all of Lindsey's songs on it, especially "Not That Funny."
I'm glad Christine isn't on the new album. Her songs can be way too sugary and sappy.
<i>Rock a Little</i> is my favorite Stevie solo album.

My confessions:
Rumours was the last FM album that I bought. And I hardly ever listen to it. It's OK, but so overdone. And when I listen to it I only want to listen to Second Hand News and I Don't Want To Know, since the rest of them are practiacally everywhere.
Tusk is my favorite FM album. I think it's a high point in all three artist's songwriting.
I wasn't sad at all that Christine wasn't on Say You Will. I like her songs but it's hard to find the feeling behind them.
I would rather Listen to OSOTM and Street Angel any day over Wild Heart and RAL.
I think the only song of any worth on Mirage is Gypsy.
I love what Sheryl Crow did with the songs she produced for TISL. I love the way their voices blend on Candlebright and Sorcerer. And I was thrilled when I heard the Rumours that she was going to join FM.
I can't stand seeing Lindsey's wedding ring while he's playing guitar. It's so in-your-face and distracting.
I love Behind the Mask! (But not as much as albums with Lindsey)
Cristian
04-28-2003, 10:06 PM
I think "Family Man" is one of the worst individual songs that I have ever heard in my entire life.
I like Behind The Mask much better than Tango In The Night and Mirage.
I think Christine's songs from the early days are much better than the ones he did with the Rumours lineup, too.
I hate "Come" with passion, but I don't think it's a bad song at all (confused??? ;))
I think the Time lineup of Fleetwood Mac had a powerful live performance that was never appreciated by too much people.
I don't think the Time album was that bad.
I hate almost all of the Lindsey songs on Mirage, except for "Can't Go Back" and "Book Of Love".
My least favorite Christine Fleetwood Mac track is "Only Over You". Holy crap.
I *love* "Paper Doll"
OK... enough is enough...
Great topic.

I HATE the way Stevie's voice sounds towards the beginning of RTTG, sounds like she has cotton mouth, marbles, a cold, SOMETHING!! When she gets further into the song, she sounds okay, but that beginning, YICK!!!
Also, on SYW (the album), there are some wierd Stevie vocal moments where her voice REALLY sounds goat-ish. LOL
I HONESTLY do not HATE any FM songs. No, SERIOUSLY. LOL There are a few songs I don't CARE for: Sugar Daddy (I can't even SING this one, don't know the lyrics!! LOL), WISYA (It's SUCH a downer on the mostly upbeat Tango), Not That Funny (My least fave Lindsey song of all time) and Silver Girl (I just cannot get over the lame-o lyrics)...but I do not HATE any of these songs. In other words, they don't make me wanna kill myself or cut off my ears....THAT kind of hate. Just least favorites.
I really like Mirage too...but I like Tango WAAAAAYYYYY better.
OH, and I LOVE Only Over You too!!
Dangit, I keep thinking of others..LOL
I LOVE that wierd voice Lindsey does on Illume...it's FREAKY and SPOOKY...just like the song!!!

I don't own TISL. There. I've said it. It's like, her best album but I had everything downloaded on the internet and at the time the album came out, I was spending a large majority of my time on the computer with school work...hey, wait. I still do. Anyway, that's my confession. I need to buy it.
Another confession....I don't miss Christine. I was apprehensive about her not coming back but you want to know what? It's excellent and I couldn't have asked for anything more. Her songs are often fluffy and are hard to find meaning to as I believe someone else said previously. Au revoir, Christine! Bonjour Fleetwood Mac revamped!
I too think Mirage is pretty crappy. I prefer Tango over it. Family Man----blah.
Oh, and Micks "balls" bother me. Seriously.
I think that covers it for now.
Oh, and for those who haven't gotten into the song Illume, listen to it on a discman....I love how the beginning of the song starts out in your left ear then moves to the right...It kicks...
I love Red Rover
I hate OOTC. I like Lindsey at his weirdest. _ But, I love songs like SYHA and BTLH so I think there's something about OOTC that turns me off, I can't put my finger on it.
I hate Stevie's demos. For the life of me I don't understand how fans who appreciate music can listen to them more than one time as a mere curiousity.
I love Lindsey's Tusk hair and makeup. The weirder he is the more I like it. Sue me too:)
Before SYW I thought Tusk was the high point of Stevie & Lindsey's work within FM. I think SYW may hold its own against Tusk.. ask me in a year.
With rare exception, I think Stevie's best work is within FM and Lindsey is her best producer.
I don't care if I ever hear Sara again, I was never a big fan of the song.
I've never been a fan of Angel, never got all the fuss.
I like Rhiannon live. I listened to a bootleg of a Dance show this weekend and Stevie let loose a little. I think she does that more within FM than on her recent solo tours.
I seriously think I might wretch if I have to sit through Mick's drum solo and watch him spit. Can I sue him if his spit lands on me? I can't stand to look at him play the drums and I gag when the camera zooms in on his BS phoney faces . Oh wait! This is supposed to be unpopular opinions...sorry. Well, then add me to the list of people who don't want to have to be subjected to "cruel and unusual punishment" in order to be able to hear Stevie & Lindsey sing live. I think it's so cruel and horrible it could be included as a test on Fear Factor.
Someone needs to tell Stevie that Mick and John aren't going to fire her and Lindsey unless Mick hits the Powerball, Hell Freezes Over AND he gets struck by lightening all in the same day! What the "H-E-L-L" was she thinking when she said that! I'll have to add that quote to my favorite quotes from the SYW interviews, it's a classic.
Ditto the pleasure of being able to have an unpopular or different opinion about "anything" without some pack of rabid wild dogs attacking you within seconds.
Long Live The Ledge! :)

I've never even heard any songs from Time, Law & Order, Christine's solo album, or ANY of the records from before S&L joined. I own Law and Order. And I've never listened to it. I've only heard one pre Lindsey and Stevie album...Kiln House...I liked it. I've never heard Christine's solo stuff. Oh, and i've never heard anything off of Gift of Screws other than what was released on SYW (if anyone can hook me up, i'd be grateful because I'd like to hear it). I don't like Stevie's demos. In fact, I had 20 tapes that someone traded for me for A Day in the Garden and I just gave them all away without listening...lol. I think Stevie sounds great on most of the RAL album, and I'd love to hear Imperial Hotel in concert.
I think RAL has the coolest album cover.
I love The Wild Heart a little more than I love Bella Donna.
I think Lindsey's best FM songs are about Stevie.
I love when Stevie shrieks in live Rhiannon, but I HATE it in the Mirage concert video at the start of GYOW when Lindsey gets on the balls of his feet, practically eats the mike, and shrieks "C'Mon! C'Mon!"
I think everybody looks TERRIBLE in the video for Big Love. (Who did the lighting? Was Curry out for revenge on Chris or something?)
I think I'm so Afraid is boring, but I like Blue Letter.
I like the song Destiny, especially the ending harmonies.
I like the demo of Greta, but don't care for the album version.
I don't believe that Lindsey never hit Stevie outside her house in 1987.
I love Seven Wonders. A lot.
I like Heart of Stone, but not Love Shines.
I like Stevie with Don on vocals and Waddy on guitar.
I like Sharon, but I like Lori more.
I absolutely LOVE Mick's solo and would pay top dollar to see/hear him with the vest just once more..
Okay, I'm TOTALLY kidding about that last one about Mick. Had you going with the vomit vest, didn't I?

after reading this thread, i realized how many of these i actually have! here's a few:
i'm not that big a fan of Edge of 17. i know that it's one of THE Stevie songs, but i just don't like it all that much.
I too prefer Mirage over Tango. I actually really like Mirage. and Family Man is one of the worst songs ever. So is When I See You Again.
When i first got Tusk, i didn't like it. the only songs i ever listened to were Beautiful Child, Over and Over, and Storms.
I don't like Stevie's voice how it is now nearly as much as i like it during the 70's.
The way Stevie treats her dogs really annoys me. (i heard she asked for a private jet for them once)
I don't like Stand Back that much either, and i'm upset to see that it was on the set list
I actually get bored during Go Insane/Big Love on the Dance video.
the only Fleetwood Mac video I've ever seen is Gypsy.
ok, that's enough,lol.

Glad to see you're kidding. I was going to have to call in a doctor to see if you had a fever. LOL.
I forget, but did Stevie ever respond to what Mick said about Lindsey supposedly hitting her in 87'? I know Lindsey denies it. I have a feeling, If Lindsey ever did (i would hope he didn't but I could see him doing that), Stevie would deny it...she cares about him too much...

According to Lindsey, Stevie told him after the book publication that she couldn't believe Mick wrote that. But that's not the same as her saying he wrote something that's untrue.
I find it very odd that Stevie has never spoken of it or been asked about it that we know of.
For those who think she's too private to discuss it, she hasn't been too private to discuss two drug addictions, posing nude with Lindsey, weight gain, breast implants, menopause, and even that rumor about the roadie blowing coke up her ____ (when asked in an interview).
But we digress...

- I think Eyes of the World is the worst Lindsey song side to side with Holiday Road & Dancing across the USA. And live it sucks.
- I think Tango in the Night is as great as Rumours.
- I love everything about Family Man - love the lyrics.
- I think the Mirage (video) concert is one of the worst I've seen. In fact when I saw it for the first time I was pretty embarrassed.
- I don't like any The Dance Christine song. The ooh-la-la-la s in Say you love me are awful.
- Two of my favourite Fleetwood Mac songs are Ricky and You and I part 1. And Red Rover by the way.
- I felt happier when I knew Christine wouldn't be on SYW.
- I like Lindsey version of Here comes the sun.

I seem to be the only person who prefers Mirage to Tango.
**** I prefer Tango
I don't like Red Rover.
**** I love the song!
When I See You Again grew on me.
**** I really love that song honestly.
I'm not in love with Everybody Finds Out. (It sounds like she wants to be Cher, an older diva with a dance track.) I don't hate it, I even like it, but I love RTTG much more - lyrics, instruments, production.
**** I love RTTG much more than Everybody Finds Out but I still like that song alot.
Fall from Grace is one of my least favorites on TISL, but I like TFFT.
**** OH! FFG is the best song on TISL!! TFFT is the worst!
I don't mind the dancers in the Stand Back video. Sign of the times, & they're no on too too much.
**** It fits the song and the video
With some exceptions, I prefer Chris's earlier work to her later work. Worse, I think she did some great songs post-Lindsey.
**** BTM was Christine's time to shine I believe!!! I love Christine's pre S/L ( esp WHY) but post is good too.
I find a couple of Lindsey's songs monotonous on Tusk.
**** Yes, I agree.
I think Stevie looked better in the Seven Wonders video than in any other.
**** OH YES! Sexy! I think she looks great in the white dress scenes, but I also love the red dress lounging on the loveseat in Hold Me and the leaning against the lampost in Gypsy.
Empire State doesn't bother me. Family Man does.
**** I hate both sorry.
Just my (unpopular) opinions. (Flame away. ) Burn! Just kidding!
What's your most unpopular FM opinion?
Im tired of The White Album and Rumours and I can't listen to them anymore. Isn't that awful.

Confessions....
I think Jimmy Iovine was actually Stevie's best producer, and brought out her most engaging qualities better than anyone else.
I enjoy the "two worst Stevie songs ever"... "Welcome To The Room... Sara," and "When I See You Again."
In fact, I love "When I See You Again" FAR MORE than even "Landslide."
"No Questions Asked," "Affairs Of The Heart," "Freedom," and "Paper Doll" are some great, rocking songs, and are undeservedly maligned by fans who don't want to believe that Stevie did anything good in Fleetwood Mac post-Lindsey.
"As Long As You Follow," "Save Me," "Heart Of Stone," "I Do," and "Nights In Estoril" are among Christine's best compositions, and are just as wonderful as anything from the 'Rumours' era.
'Tango In The Night' is my favorite Mac album (though 'Say You Will' may eventually edge it out).
"Family Man" is a fun tune, and I like the sentiment behind the lyrics. I'm glad it's on 'The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac.'
I think that some of Lindsey's 'Tusk' tunes are rather dull, once the novelty of their unconventional production wears off, but "I Know I'm Not Wrong" is one of my all-time favorite L.B. songs.
IMO, Billy Burnette and Rick Vito were great assets to Fleetwood Mac, and I wish that lineup had lasted longer... but I sorely missed Lindsey's production flourishes.
'Behind The Mask' and 'Time' are great albums, and are not embarassments to the Fleetwood Mac legacy by any means.
I loved Lindsey's impassioned take on "Here Comes The Sun."
I loved the ultra-raspy nature that Stevie's voice had, circa 1983-1987, and I think her current lower-register growl is far more fascinating than the "pretty" range she had from 1976-1979.
Hmm... I'm sure there are more, but that's all for now. :)
Fun thread, by the way!

I've loved reading everyone else's and iv now got a few of my own, some of which have already been said:
- I prefer Mirage to Tango. WISYA and WTTRS are, in a word, crap.
-The only stevie solo albums iv got areTISL and Timespace, both of which i think r ok but nothing w/out lyndsey.
-Iv never heard any of Lyndseys solo stuff other than what was meant for GOS
-I cant syand goodbye baby
-I woild much prefer going to see FM in concert when they were high on drugs than the way they are now.
-I missed Chris on SYW at first but her absence doesnt bother me one bit.
-havent heard Time

David I totally know what you mean - I even have felt recently re: their live performances, to make the suggestion that they get back on the good stuff ;) BUT, in terms of the actual album.. if I didn't know any of the current press, and someone told me that they were all on a high when they wrote these songs, it would explain a lot. I've gotta say that their material has only improved with age and become more curious and interesting.
And of course on the Christine front, give me her an album she recorded on a Casio while hanging from the rafters - I'd buy it and no doubt love it!

Let's see-I really don't like GYOW-now that's real heresy=:-)
Since I owned Tusk as my first Fleetwood Mac album, when I got Rumours it sounded kind of bland to me. I don't see a lot of difference between the White album and Rumours.
My second favorite album is Tango.
I kind of put Mirage in there with Rumours and the White album-they all sound kind of bland compared with Tusk.
Say You Will-the verdict is kind of still out with me-I agree with Chili though that the sequencing of the songs is really <i>not</i> good.
Let's put this in perspective though-I'd still rather listen to FM for hours than any other band for hours=:-)

ok... raise shields.
1- Tango is FM's best album
2-When I See You Again & Welcome To The Room...Sara are stevie's biggest contribution to the band/
3-i support warners' attempts to kill lindsey's solo career, his solo albums are just horrendous.
4-a rock star needs to look like one. stevie must not be seen in public wearing glasses, and a face lift could also be taken into consideration at her age, john on the other hand must never be allowed to face a camera again.

~*I have never listened entirely to Tango. At least, not that I can remember.
~*I don't miss Chris. I thought I would, but I truly don't.

Some more . . .
I don't own any FM prior to LB and SN joining the band, except for the one disc from the box set that I never listen to.
I don't own any solo albums from Christine or Lindsey, but I own all of Stevie's solo albums.
I detest Stevie's rapsy period in the 80's - her Red Rocks video is embarrassing. She looks terrible and those close-ups are obviously not from the concert. The growling during Edge of 17 on that video is horrible. This concert is supposedly the last time she used coke (and from the looks of it, thank God!).

OH! I FORGOT!
GYPSY SUCKS!
i never managed to understand what's the big attraction there, i find it to be fluffy and corny, like taking all of stevie's cliche's and squeezing them into one single song, draining it from any possible emotion in the process, (and the video's cheesy too).

here's some I forgot:
I don'r own any solo albums by Chris or Pete.(or any memeber apart from Stevie and Lindsey who have released solo albums)
I think Tusk and Behind The Mask are the 2 best FM albums.
I would really love it, if the BTM lineup, do another album.

Yikes... a face lift? Whats wrong with her natural aging? Yikes, you have to cut your whole face, stretch it and re-sew it back on. I know she had the implants and all, but the thought of her getting a facelift gives me the heebie-jeebies!

As far fetched as that idea is...i like it.

This is the best topic posted in a long time.
1. I think SYW seriously lacks b/c Chris is missing. I don't think it was a good thing going back to the B/N thing. Chris's vocals just can't be replaced.
2. John was the coolest dresser in the 70s and 80s. Love the cut off shorts and white shoes w/ no socks!
3. It really annoys me how Lindsey says the same thing in every interview he's ever done. If I hear him say the word "cycles" again, I think I'll poke my eyes out.
4. B/c Lindsey says the same things all the time, I find his interviews horribly boring.
5. I don't think things got better b/c they got older.
6. Stevie up until Tango looks like a totally different person than after Tango. To me, her looks have changed so dramatically that she could totally be a different person.
7. I think Lindsey looked way better during the Dance than now.
8. I don't think they should have gotten rid of the Penguin mascot.
9. I like Lindsey, but I think he would be a real pill to work/live with. I don't blame Stevie at all for dumping him and I respect any woman that can put up with him in a relationship/marriage.
10. I think Paper Doll and No Questions Asked are two of Stevie's best songs ever.
11. I think Stevie and Christine shined on Tusk - their best work IMO. I think Lindsey, on the other hand, had his best work on Rumours.
12. Lindsey didn't really try with his songs on Mirage or Tango. They are not very good at all.
13. Mick's drum solo blows chunks.
14. I'm not a big fan of the long guitar solos.
15. Stevie doesn't rock like she used to. (that's not bad, but I'd rather watch a performance from the 70's or 80's than now)
16. I don't think any of the members really care about the "fans" except Stevie.

Great Topic...I'm cracking up reading everyone's posts!:D
Here are my additions:
Go Insane is one of the worst albums of the eighties (and that's saying something)
Destiny Rules in my new least favorite Stevie song...the vocal is rivaled only by that of her horrible "Silent Night" redition on the first VSC album.
ROC is my very favorite Stevie album...and I'm not sure why.
I agree wholeheartedly with whoever said LB's wedding ring was "in your face" and distracting. I don't think he should be allowed to wear it with Stevie on stage.
I am happy Christine didn't come back. I'm a diehard BuckNicks fan and the only thing I'll miss is "Oh Daddy" live.
Gypsy is my least favorite Stevie song on Mirage and Sara is my least favorite Stevie song on Tusk. My favorites are Straight Back and Beautiful Child.

I agree with all of these COMPLETELY. (Hi Mrs. Buckingham!) The age has not made them better, IMO- part of me thinks I'm only going to this tour in hopes that they'll sound somewhat like they used to. I will be TERRIBLY sad not hearing Christine's hits. Cmon. You Make Lovin' Fun. Say You Love Me. Over and Over. Everywhere. ..sigh.
Bring back the short, shorts, Johnny! hahahahahahaa...
One more thing:
I wish they'd KEEP playing Monday Morning live. Don't do Don't Stop- you can't do that without Chris. wtf.

I can't agree with everything you mentioned but the things I do agree with are these
I love Mirage and more so than Tango as I got into the Mac back in the Mirage era
I love Lindsey and usually like everything he does but Red Rover is so boring IMO.
When I See You Again has that killer ending with Lindsey and it is almost like they are talking to each other.
Fall From Grace was one of the TISL songs that I do not care for along with Bombay Sapphire
Empire State Rocks but I love Family Man, too but Empire is definitely better
I love Christine in all eras but I agree that some of her earlier pre-Buck Nicks stuff is fabulous

This thread is frickin NUTS!! LOL We are all spewing out everything we've held in!!
I don't understand the Lindsey's ring being "in your face". Distracting? LMAO!!! He shouldn't wear it on stage with Stevie??? WTH not?!!? This is FRICKIN HILARIOUS!!!!
I LOVE Family Man...that guitar is just PURE JOY!! It's upbeat and doesn't drag....so YAY!!!!
I hate when they use to put "jam sessions" on their albums pre-Rumours era. Ugh....those Madge songs on TPO...SKIP SONGS!! LOL
I don't like Billy Burnette's voice much. Don't care for Dave Mason either. Don't own Time or BTM, but I'm gonna get em eventually for completion reasons. LOL
Danny Kirwan has surpassed Miss Christine as my THIRD fave member of FM! *GASP* Actually, he MAY be tied with Miss Stevie for 2nd place....I just frickin love Danny!!!!

I like You and I Part 2. (now if i said i liked it better then part 1...well i'd be lying)
3 songs per album is all i need from Ms Nicks
I love Tango in the Night.
Lindsey's voice really sucks now. (its a shame). Whoever says he needs to take vocal lessons...i fully agree.
Why the hell did i buy the 2cd edition of SYW.

Some more:
I'm sick of hearing Stevie talk about giving up kids and relationships just as much as I am sick of hearing about healing and cycles from Lindsey.
I'm tired and bored to death with the whole rehashing of the past drama. It's soooooooo old and any die-hard music fan knows it already.
Like someone else said, Go Insane is absolutely awful (the album).
Say You Love Me from The Dance was 100 times better than the album version.
Lindsey needs to stop looking up big words to say in interviews to show how smart he is, that drives me bananas!
The lyrics to Love Is Dangerous are so bad. "Standing at the crossroads..." ????? Ick.
I love Stevie's version of Silent Night!
I'm mad at Stevie for not having a go at Iovine's unibrow. It's a jungle up there, folks.
I'm also not too keen on the album version of HAEWAFY; the best version was on Storytellers.
The video to Paper Doll is the absolute bottom of the barrel.
GREAT thread! :D :p
*The pre-1975 Mac stuff is decent, but really...the Rumours era stuff is my favorite, hands down!
*I'm So Afraid is a horrible studio track
*Rhiannon on the White album is bland IMHO
*Lindsey whines a LOT! He doesn't want to play other people's materials "I payed my dues" from the pre-'75 Mac...and then there was that smart ass comment about them needing "two people" to replace him in '87! Well, how about the seven hundred and forty five musicians you had to replace the Mac on your '93 tour Bucko?
*From a man's point of view, Mick Fleetwood was rather gross looking until the late 80's. Some of those 70's pics of him are revolting. What the hell was Stevie thinking?
*Stevie's shining moment was Bella Donna. Anything she has done since has paled in comparison.
*Stevie's contributions on TITN were horrid. She really was in the worst form I have ever seen her. It would have been better had she not been involved at all really, a la Christine on SYW.
*Christine McVie is hot...end of story.
*Lindsey's use of Tango-esque sounds on Say You Will. It's not 1987 anymore.
*Stevie's lackluster performances with the Mac so far this year. I mean, smile at US a little bit. Sheesh.
*Obsessive Stevie fans.
*Obsessive Lindsey fans, though, they aren't even close to the number, or annoyingness of the obsessive Stevie fans.
*Christine NOT being on SYW. I wasn't terribly upset until I hear the album, and the songs, and imagine how much more greatness they could be if Chris was there!
wow...I am miserable tonight! Sorry everyone!

Still more...
While her eyes, voice, and personality have a timeless appeal, I don't think Chris looked especially good until the Tango days (and ever since). Those old Grammy pics with the crimped hair are not flattering. And I think she's had work done. Her face got tighter between the Mirage & Dance concert videos. And I believe her chin became more prominent by the late '80s.
I like Lindsey - really - but I'd be happy if he got to make that solo album. I'd love to hear/see a new Mac incarnation with Mick, John, Stevie, Chris, and Sheryl. Still three songwriters who can harmonize, but now a female triumvirate. That would be a fresh angle and sound from this band. The press would also have something new to write about rather than the band's long-dead romances.
I hope Jessica doesn't follow in Aunt Stevie's footsteps professionally. Lisa Marie has already exceeded my tolerance for nepotism.
I think Stevie will get married again.
I wait for the day when Matthew Anderson meets with Stevie again & we get to hear about it. I think it would inspire her musically. His mother's tragic death sure did.

confessions...what a great thread. ok, here goes, the first three are the doozies...
~ I never really liked Rhiannon...I can take the piano versions but the rock versions have always bored me
~ Bella Donna is my least favorite Stevie solo album and the last solo album I bought...
~ I liked it better when Landslide was just a secret FM fan song, I hate the fact it's become so popular
~ I like the Stevie "big hair" late 80's look the best. She looked so forlorn and beautiful especially when she was trying to finally kick cocaine and her clothes were so creative and sexy
~ I love Lindsey look with the big afro and beard in the 70's but now he's starting to look old, close the shirt, please
~ Tommer's right, the girl can afford plastic surgery so if she did implants in the 70's, she can get a nip and tuck now
~ Straight Back is my favorite Stevie w/FM tune but I like Tango just a little bit better than Mirage. Hold Me is their best video with Little Lies coming in second.
~ I like the treadmill effect in the Stand Back video and I was high the first time I ever saw that video
~ I can no longer listen to Come since I found out it was about Ann Heche (thanks Ledge) even tho it was my fav GOS tune
~ I am a thread killer, it seems whenever I finally answer a long thread I'm the last one to respond
~ I always end up with bad seats at concerts...no matter how hard I say next time I'm gonna pay top dollar for good seats, I'm too cheap to ever actually buy them and this includes the upcoming concert
Tango

As a result of the total debacle known as The Fleetwood Mac fan club, I will never be able to see Mick Fleetwood as anything but a scoundral again. Maybe most of you already were there. I do appreciate what he has given the band musically, but from his treatment of the fans through his keeping Jonathan Todd, I will never look at him the same way again.
Some more:
*Stevie's witchy appeal, and people that think she's 1) a witch, 2) a gypsy, or 3) a God. Puhleez...
*Cycles - LINDSEY, SHUT UP. I'm sick of cycles...I'm sick of you talking about them.
*The fact that these people fight about everything. If they spent half the energy they do arguing about what songs to play, the sequencing of an album,...on writing songs and music, they would release twice as many alb ums.
*John McVie wins as the "Coolest Fleetwood Mac Member"
*Mick's drum solo was never cool, ever. And it's not like John got to do a bass solo anywhere except the Chain?
*The backup girls and their stupid little snake dance or whatever the heck they are doing.
*The Tango in the Night video should be crushed and burned with Mili Vanili.
*The moron who decides, "The Mirage Tour video doesn't need to be re-released"
*The two morons who decide that they still shouldn't release Buckingham/Nicks
*Lindsey bringing up that Stevie won't thank him for makign her music work
*Stevie not thanking him
*Smile At You on SYW is just not comparable to the demos.
*When I see You Again is the worst track on TITN, and quite possibly on any Fleetwood Mac album with Stevie on it.
*Paper Doll is a fun song until you see the video
*The Ledge - the most amusing song from the Mac
*The big Silver Springs controversy. Come on Stevie, why didn't you ever try to use the song before Timespace if it was THAT important to you? I mean, in 1981 you could have gone to Mick and seen if you could use it for Bella Donna? And nothing stopped you from doing SS in concert on your solo tours! Suddenly in 1990 it became the "thing that broke up Fleetwood Mac"
*Mick's fan club...what a joke. Just the fact that the main guy was like, the Pirate or the Joker or whatever he was made that whole thing a joke.

I totally agree!!!
The funny thing is that she says in her interviews that her advice is "not to fall in love with a rock star". Well, that is all she has basically ever done:
Lindsey
Don Henley
Tom Petty
Joe Walsh
Gonzo (close enough)

* I really do not like the song Bella Donna....."you can ride high atop your pony i know you won't fall...cuz the whole things phony" wtf man.
* I really like the song "No Questions Asked"
* I think one of Christine's best songs is "As Long As You Follow"
* The only reason I listen to the song Rock A Little is to hear the sweet background vocals...I dunno why I like them...I just do.
* Even though I kind of like the Stevie/ Christine/ John/Mick/ Billy/Rick lineup, I thought it was lame-assed that it took two guitarists to replace Lindsey
* I am all "Rhiannon-ed" out...same with "Dreams" ... i'm just tired of hearing them
* I don't like Sheryl Crow and haven't liked anything she's done solo since her second album. If she had joined Fleetwood Mac, I wouldn't have been a happy camper.
*Fleetwood Mac would be fine without Mick Fleetwood. He's not the greatest drummer in the world. He needs to get over himself.
*I actually enjoy Tusk more than Rumours.
Bella, keep listening to "Come." Despite popular belief, my belief is that it's about his relationship with Carol Ann Harris and even though he claims it's not (probably because Stevie would beat the crap out of him), I think it may be about Stevie as well. Carol Ann lived in his guest room and he even supported her for a while when they broke up. I believe "Miranda" is about Anne.

And some more:
I absolutely hate when Lindsey sings "It's Not That Funny" in the Mirage video. Those wails and moans are super annoying. I have to fast forward it everytime.
Ditto with the moans and shrieks on Big Love from The Dance.
Can someone explain to me why the heck he does this?
Oh, I hate Mick's drum solo, too. Especially during "World Turning" on the Mirage video.
Christine must have had a face lift sometime before The Dance. She looks too different. Stevie doesn't need plastic surgery. I think she looks fabulous for her age (except in that damn grandma cardigan she wore on Leno).
I do not like Lindsey's hair now. It looked better on The Dance. He has that "mad professor" look to him these days.
I think Lindsey uses those terribly long, irritating guitar solos to show off. In fact, it seems like he puts those damn guitar solos in some of Stevie's songs just to steal her thunder.
Both Lindsey and John were verbally, emotionally and maybe even physically abusive to Stevie and Christine. However, I think the drugs and alcohol fueled this behavior for the most part.
Stevie and Lindsey have "hooked up" since he left the band in 1987.
Whew! It feels good to get this stuff out - very theraputic!!

Some of my unpopular opinions, that I am finally going to spill:
- I don't think "Tusk" is a work of genius that represents Fleetwood Mac's "artistic pinnacle." In fact, I find that claim absoultely inexplicable.
- I don't like "Rhiannon." It used to be vindicated live by Lindsey's awesome solo, but now that that's gone, I can't stand it.
- I hate the insipid "Beautiful Child" and was dismayed to see it on the set list.
- I also hate the venerated Stevie songs "Storms" (SOOOO borning) and "Beauty and the Beast" (la belle? le bete? what the?) but I love "The Highwayman."
- I like "Oh Diane."
- I think Stevie can get pretty full of herself in interviews. I roll my eyes at her "poor me" stories from 30 years ago - "I had to do this and I had to do that" well guess what, Stevie, most of us STILL have to do those things, and we don't have an incredibly hot guitar player waiting for us at home!
- I'm glad Chris is gone. More BN.
- I like Lindsey and Stevie better in Fleetwood Mac than I do solo.
- Holiday Road is one of my favorite Lindsey songs.
- I HATE "Make Me a Mask." Step AWAY from the sitar, Lindsey.
- I don't appreciate the "artistry" of "Playing in the Rain Parts I and II." In fact, I think they are self-indulgent wastes of album space.
- I HATE phony synthesized voices. I think they are grotesque and that Lindsey's inclusion of them on "Illume" made it the most wretched song on the new album (well, it's tied with "Silver Girl," but I hate that for totally different reasons). I hate them wherever they appear.
- I think, with a very few exceptions, Lindsey's songs sound better live and stripped of their studio frills.
- And I've always been afraid to admit to other Lindsey fans that "D.W. Suite" creeps me out.
Phew, guess that's enough for now!

1. The White Album, I honestly have listened to it maybe 5 times.
2. I can't even listen to Dreams or Rhiannon anymore. I turn the radio OFF.
3. The LIVE album is pretty bad. I love Fireflies, Oh Well and Sara, but that's about it.
4. Christine and Lindsey look horrid in the Gypsy video.
5. Christine got really hot but 1987 and just got hotter.
6. I HATE Stevie's clothes past 1987 ( starting Tango tour) I don't know WHO dressed her. I'd rather see her in black than those clothes from 1987-1994.
7. I am a total 80's nut so that's why I love Tango. I love synthisizers ( but I can't spell it LOL)
8. Linds. looked BAD for the Dance.
9. I wish Lindsey was totally single right now. I want to be his groupie. HA.
10. I want Stevie and Lindsey to get married.
11. I like to think every song is about them.
12. Stevie needs to cut her hair...bad. And whiten her teeth.
13. Countdown is not at all my fav Lindsey solo video like everyone else...Wrong is.
14. I think Lindsey is very , very full of himself.
15. I can't listen to Leather and Lace or Stop Draggin anymore either.
16. I haven't even listened to disk 1 of VBOFM
17. If there is a CYCLES speech during this tour, I will throw my shoe at Lindsey ( after I throw him my bra ;)
18. I hate You Do or You Don't.
19. I don't like the title song to SYW...
20. Im glad I got a FM album instead of a Lindsey solo album.
21. I love Rock a Little 10 times better than Bella Donna.
22. I don't want Sheryl Crow anywhere near Fleetwood Mac.
23. I miss Christine, alot, because she'd also be single and let Stevie have someone to talk to during the tour.
24. I think S/L have lost alot of harmonizing ability.
25. I wish Stevie would scream again and lose control. My fav Rhiannon is Mirage. My favorite performances are mirage...I loved her voice like that even though critics totally ripped her apart for singing like that.
26. Lindsey is sexiest while losing control and being crazy..like COME or NTF live.

Hmmm...Let's see...
#1-That Fleetwood Mac is too damn slow at releasing new studio albums...Hell, I've seen people have multiple marriages & divorces in a shorter time span.
#2-That Fleetwood Mac is a band that has a past history that seems to never have existed AFTER 1975
#3-That "Freedom" as a video SUCKED!!!!
#4-I actually like the "Behind The Mask" album...Except for the song "Freedom"!!!
#5-That the "Say You Will" was being compared to the "Tusk" album...Don't hear it at all.
#6-John McVie never receives credit in music publications for being a GREAT bassist!!!!
#7-I don't really like any of the videos Fleetwood Mac have done.
#8-Drum solos waste TOO much frikkin' time...But then I could always go take a piss during this musical "Waste of space"!!!!
#9-The same nightly Lindsey concert speeches have to go (ie-No "Cycles" crap "pu-pu-pu-please"!!!!)...Be spontaneous dude!!!!
#10-No penguin mascot...Damn!!!!
#11-Still cannot hear the words "Mother F--ker" (ie-"Mother, Father") in the chorus of "Family Man"...lol!!!!
#12-Rehashing the of the same ol' history of the band in all the new interviews...I think we're all sick of that tune.
and finally this "ol chestnut"
#13-Stevie Nicks...Has (possible) millions of dollars & yet ONE BLACK DRESS!!!!!!!!!!!

(Note: Being the 16 year old without a job that I am, and recieving no allowance ever, I am limited to only songs off of certain albums that I happen to own and mp3's from the net.)
1. I appreciate the sound of the early FM...just as much as I appreciate the Stevie/Lindsey version.
2. My favorite Stevie solo song is "Rock A Little (Go Ahead Lily)"
3. I think both Stevie and Christine outshined Lindsey on "Tusk" (BIG TIME)
4. I think Lindsey outshined Stevie and Christine on TITN.
5. I WANT CHRISTINE BACK, but am still satisfied with SYW.
6. Rumours and Bella Donna are probably going to be the last albums I ever purchase just because I have heard most of the songs off them.
7. "Only Over You" is one of my favorite CM songs.:)
8. I could listen to one Christine McVie song for hours on end, but I can't somehow toleratethe same SN or LB song for that long.
9. "Straight Back" is the coolest song ever! --- excluding some other 4000 FM songs.:)

Hmm well seeing as Stevie seems to like 'Fleetwood Mac' a lot, I guess your exclusive tastes have you in quite a jam, eh?
(I won't ask the more unfair question of what you're even doing on this board to just complain about Lindsey and the band, because I guess you're here to - appreciate Stevie's contributions from the White Album through to Rumours?)

"Beautiful Child" is probably my least favorite of Stevie's contributions to 'Tusk,' though there's definitely a lot of beauty to the lyrics, and Stevie's vocal is exquisite.
Anyway... I think, Joe, that Stevie is saying that her and the fella in question fell in love when SHE was only 10. Presumeably he was around the same age.
Now they're older, and even though she still loves him, she's unsure of how he really feels for her after all these years.
But she reminds him (and herself in the process), that she's "old enough to love (him) from afar."
I kind of look at "Beautiful Child" as an ode to a first-love... the one who got away, but will remain in your heart forever.
Ok, sorry to go off topic. :)

Ok, I'll play!
1. I think that FM milks the S/L relationship too much, particularly Stevie, who I think is 1) more willing to be commercial and 2) enamoured of the idea of still being in love with LB (though isn't in any sort of real way). I was horrified at the scripted hugs etc. o The Dance tour and don't want to see it this time. I'll take LB's "cycles" talk again, thanks.
2. I don't like the way SN has repeatedly said rather unkind things about LB in the press and wish she would respect his privacy. That said, I like reading it (though it often makes me sad), and I guess it's all fair since The Ledge is a pretty nasty song. I'd love to know LB's side of the story but don't want to hear about cycles or healing.
3. I think LB and SN are even as far as her working and his not working in the early days -- after all, he insisted that FM take her. So, she needs to stop talking about that.
4. Stevie and Mick. One word: EW! Yet I think that he's the one that she would say was the one she could have married and lived happily ever after with (well except for the bankruptcy and increased drug use, of course).
5. Don't really like long guitar solos or long drum solos but believe that it's some sort of asserting maleness thing that has to happen. Wish they could coordinate those with costume changes for Stevie, since I hate those too.
6. It takes me a while to get into some of LB's FM material, but I end up liking it more than the SN material that immediately grabbed me. Well, except for I'm So Afraid. I never liked that song.
7. I don't think I'd like any of them as people if I met them...too self-invoved, except for John who is too beaten down.
8. I think that some bad stuff went down with Chris leaving (not on the scale of LB in 1987), and that certain people (Mick, Stevie) must have given her a really hard time.
9. I think Jimmy Iovine and LB are tied for best Stevie producer credits, but I also think that they both worked with her in her most exciting songwriting period.
10. I don't think that Lindsey and John were any more abusive than Stevie or Chris were. I just think we hear more from Stevie and Chris because they give more candid interviews. But I blame 75% of it on alcohol and the rest on emotional issues.
11. I don't listen to FM related material much of the time, except for my current non-stop play of SYW. It goes in cycles.
12. I wish Stevie and Lindsey had been able to work it out, but I'd be horrified if they got together now that he's married and a dad and all.
13. Lindsey's obsessive work habits scare me. I know people like him, and it ususally comes from massive insecurity. Not good times.
14. I kinda like the synthesizer voices...to a point.
15. When I read about how badly they've all treated each other, I want to tell them to disperse to the ends of the earth and leave each other alone. Yet I hope they have another CD together soon.

Yeah - no kidding! On the LB BTM, it kind of put it in perspective when Brian Wilson said that he had seen LB's intensity, and that personally, it "frightened him". That, coming from Brian Wilson, is in itself, scary.

My turn! Start filling those water buckets to put out the flames!
Stevie Nicks is a star...always has been...always will be. Some people are just born stars and Stevie is one of them. She knows it and LB knows it too. Why else did his first band want her? It's never been the "in" thing for guys to want a chick in their band. Lindsey tries to overcompensate to this day about not allowing FM to be seen as a chick band. Yet, in the beginning he and his band mates knew Stevie had something special. Don't tell me it was her songs they were after. The Fritz bandleader only wanted to do his own stuff most of the time in the early days.
Lindsey is not a star but wishes he were one. He is a very hard working musician without a lot of natural gifts. He has a great musical sense for composition and craft but as a player I think he practiced his ass off for years to get where he could hold his own on lead guitar. He's just inately too shy and insecure to be the guitar god and front man FM wanted and needed without Stevie joining the band too.
Lindsey never, under any circumstances, would have joined FM without Stevie. At that time I believe he loved her more than he wanted to make it big in music.
If the shoe had been on the other foot and the band really only wanted Stevie, and said they'd only take her without Lindsey, (duck and take cover!) Stevie would have left Lindsey at that time to go after music success, rather than later when they hit it big and she didn't need him anymore. (Ouch, that lightning bolt hurt, man!)
Stevie and Lindsey are both headstrong, spoiled, rich kid brats who grew up as the center of attention in their families, always being lavished with praise and given over-inflated self-esteem. They both always want to have everything their own way. The were doomed never to get along with day to day issues. They never would have stayed together as a couple unless they'd gotten over themselves at the same time and realized what they had together. They both were/are too self-centered to put someone else's needs and desires above their own.
Christine McVie is the best songwriter in Fleetwood Mac, from a composition standpoint and on a commercial level. Stevie and Lindsey are too selfindulgent in their songwriting, for the most part, and cannot resist airing their dirty laundry about all their relationships for the sake of their "art." Without the drama, without all the piss and vinegar, where would either of them be today? I always know what Christine is talking about. I don't need to know how she feels or what she says by reading between her lines...lol! Stevie and Lindsey both need translators or channelers sometimes for normal people to figure out WTF they're talking about! (Isn't that the best part of it all? It's what makes being fans of them both such a rush!)
Christine and Stevie always tollerated each other, but are not, and never have been great friends. They're certainly not as close as they want people to think they are. Stevie and Chris never had much in common except being in the same band, but they're both smart cookies. It's truly amazing that with all the other drama swirling around, they both managed to overcome the most obvious knock against a band having women...(gals are always rivals and can't get along where men are concerned.) I take my hat off to each of them for presenting a united front in dealings with the men in the band. Neither of them crossed the line with the other's personal issues, unlike the men. We know someone who dipped his dong where it didn't belong. Somehow with men, that's not being held against the guy who did it. The woman will never be forgiven! If Stevie or Chris had done something like that in the other's backyard, that would have been the end of one of them. I believe Stevie does miss the camaraderie with Chris, but as far as Chris being her best friend...(spit-take, coffee upchucked and blowing out my nose) you haven't spoken to her in 5 years and she's your best friend?
The band is not as good without Chris. Stevie and Lindsey are equal talents with Chris. The band is much less when any of the big three are gone. Mick and John would still be struggling club or session players if the stars had not aligned to bring each of these talented people along for them to latch on to.
Chris was the smart one to bow out gracefully (whatever the real reason is) and leave the band when it was still on a high note. I think this tour will show that the band's better days on the road are over. They should have agreed to all work on music in the studio but touring was not necessarily going to be the mainstay of the band. If Chris did really leave the band becasue of the touring, she would've had no reason to quit. I think making her commit to touring if she recorded with them was a mistake by the band. I think they still have something to explore as a band in the studio, but the live appeal might be over for them due to age, declining skills, disinterest, his marriage her menopause (I love that one!)
Mick Fleetwood is a cash grabbing road junkie who'd do anything to keep the band making money. Mick's worked hard to keep the band moving on even when it would have been better to let it die. I respect him for his single minded drive, but he has no limits where the band, ethics, or money are concerned.
John McVie is a loyal bloke who, at all times, stands by his best friend, the guy who keeps John's cash flow in the black. He's too down to earth to ever take an egotistical jerk like Lindsey seriously, but he knows that his bread is buttered quite well by having LB around. He'll never say LB is on the same planet with Peter Green. Besides, having an egomaniac like Mick for a best friend is all a guy like John could ever stand and remain sober. Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me!
Mick and Stevie like to prentend their tryst was more than a drunken, drugged out mistake, but let's get real! Mick has zero sex appeal and other than wanting to be assured of a spot in the band should LB give an ultimatum, does anybody really believe Mick is Stevie's true love? (There goes my breakfast.)
John and Stevie have avoided the sexual tension in their relationship for two reasons. One, the chicks united front thing, and two, John silently blames Stevie for encouraging Chris to leave him when she dumped Lindsey. Misery loves company. Men hold grudges against women who interfere. Funny they don't hold the same grudges against other men.
Lindsey is now a devoted family man. He loves his wife enough not to disrespect her by rubbing her nose in the Stevie thing too much. Let the dude wear his ring if he wants to! He's also not fooling anyone including his mate that he'll ever be over Stevie. On some level he will always have a connection to her because of the band. I think he wants it that way. His wife is just not as self-centered as SN and LB and can leave her own ego in check to make Mr. B. happy because with her...it's all about him. Why wouldn't he be happy? You have my respect, Mrs. B.
Stevie never knew she loved Lindsey that much until he made it clear to her he was "Never Goin Back Again." She wanted to get out of the relationship even before they joined FM, but after she left him she knew she had made one of the biggest mistakes of her life. She made a lot of them, but that was the first in a long line of mistakes that sealed her fate and she knows it and is trying to live with it the best she can.
Stevie will have to be booed or laughed off the stage to ever give up her career. I don't think she'll ever get married again and she'll go out feet first, boots in the air, still singing.
If SYW doesn't sell at least 2 million units it will be a failure and the band will not get another record deal whether they want one or not. The tour has to be a big success or they have to put out a great DVD to give the suits a reason to keep them around. Otherwise, this is the end of the line. See 'em while you can.
This sure has been fun to let it all hang out. Now, let the flames begin!

Ok a few thoughts. Loved reading your post, BTW! Funny at times...
I agree to an extent Lindsey isnt the mega-star that Stevie is (mainly because of her hugely sucessful solo career). But I have to say, to do song production and crafting as he does - shows he does have a "natural gift". Ive studied music in my lifetime and seen many musicians, but I tell you the intricate guitars on say Red Rover are nothing *but* a natural gift.
I disagree that Stevie would have left Lindsey for FM if it were the other way around. She's said numerous times she wanted LB to make it. That's why she took the jobs waitressing, cleaning houses - so HE could make it, take time to make deals, write songs, promote BN, etc. I dont think she would have left him in the dust at all. She is year of the Dog, she is a devoted person.
Christine DID air some dirty laundry in some songs. Hold Me is one. "I dont want no damage, but how am I gonna manage you?" I agree you dont need to know inside info to understand her songs though. Little Lies? :) She just did them in her covert and nice way, lol!

I agree! She certainly got better with age.
I have various Mac pictures in my binder, and one day my friend was looking at them. She turned to me, pointed to Chris, and in all seriousness asked "Is that a man?" But then I realized that Chris did sorta look like a man.

I'm the only idiot poster who hasn't bothered to figure out how to cut & paste somebody else's post so it says "originally posted by..." and then boldfaces the rest.
This is in response to Bluegrass's inquiries into Stevie's silicone & coke rumours.
She told an interviewer that she had the implants put in in the '70s because EVERYBODY was getting them. (Again, "Mr. I'll never go Hollywood"John McVie was too cool to have the surgery, I guess. :D ) I think they got huge as she gained weight over the years. The I Can't Wait video clip that Dave Letterman used to run, she's about to fall out as her head goes back and forth. In the Red Rocks video, as she tries to release the dove, it looks like her breasts are ready to take flight alongside. (Maybe those are the three birds of Rhiannon. ) By Street Angel, she looked like her old leg warmers were stuffed in there. But size isn't what got them kicked out. When Leaked implants became the news rage (think Jenny Jones crusade, I think just after Street Angel tour), Stevie went to 9 doctors (by her own account), each of whom told her to leave them in, not to be paranoid, that they were fine. Stevie insisted on their surgical removal, and the surgery revealed that the implants were completely broken & had leaked all over. Stevie now blames her Epstein-Barr problems on the twins breaking their bonds rather than staying put like they were supposed to. BTW, looking at TOSOTM tourbook in the past, I remember thinking Lori's had to be fake as well. I haven't seen her enough to tell if hers are gone, too.
The cocaine/roadie rumour to my knowledge was last brought up in a one-page interview in a rock magazine, I forget which one. I know a younger male musician was conducting this Q & A. It was in the Street Angel Days. I remember in the interview, he asked her about rumors of lesbianism/ reciprocating Sandra Bernhardt (sp?) & Stevie responded, "No, I like men too much." Then he asked her if the rumor was true that in the '80s, she would have a male roadie blow coke through a straw into "a certain orifice." The interview said in brackets that there was "dead silence" from Stevie when he asked that. She said "Eight years sober, and the rumors still get passed around." That's how I remember when the magazine came out. I haven't read this since 1994 when it was published, so this is all from mmory, but I hope another poster can fill in gaps & correct me where I'm wrong.
By the way, I always thought this coke rumor was complete BS, but non-fans have asked me about it over the years. For me, this interview is memorable that this guy would even ask Stevie a question like that, knowing how she does tend to be private about sex talk and foul language. I'm inclined to think it was a phone interview, or she might have smacked him with a tambourine.

It is the August 1994 issue of Details magazine. It is posted on the Nicksfix (hooray for John Kinney!!!) at http://www.nicksfix.com/details894.htm
There is a very cool pic of Stevie that is not there. She is staning on what appears to be a candlestick and is holding an umbrella while apparently balancing on one foot if memory serves me correctly.

Thanks, strandinthewind. I remember the pic, that she looked thin. But I didn't like the nightgown (in the days before Blackdress), and I remember Stevie looked like Olive Oyle - something in the eyes. Also, her skin had this purplish hue (from candle light?) but her hair looked yellowish. And the top of her head had this knit thing like it's her bar mitzvah day.
This is all from memory, so I'm clicking over now to see if what I'm picturing is accurate. Also, I'm curious to check who conducted the interview.

Stevie and Mick. One word: EW! Yet I think that he's the one that she would say was the one she could have married and lived happily ever after with (well except for the bankruptcy and increased drug use, of course
What kills me about this is that all along she ranked him as one of her great loves, then in a recent interview she was like "We were drunk,it was a mistake" WTF?? How do you go from "great love" to "drunk hook-up"?? How,Stevie, how?? Explain....
Part III
*The Dixie Chicks rendition of "Landslide!" I absolutely HATE that song when sung by them. Even the show where Stevie sang with them was horrible!
*People who think I'm weird for being a 22 year old guy and liking bands like Fleetwood Mac, the Rolling Stones, Bruce, and so on...
*Acoustic Gypsy was fun the first couple of listens, but yuck...full band only please.
*The "I was a cleaning lady" story from Stevie. And that 'stand by her man' attitude that she speaks of when saying how back in the day, she couldn't let Lindsey work a useless job and that she would....get over it Stevie!
*I've become increasingly angered at Lindsey's, Lindseyness lately, esp. after reading this thread. I mean, the obsessiveness is just out of control. Whoever said it was right...it is a nasty sign when Brian Wilson is scared by someone!!

Tusk is WAY better than Rumours
I *like* Silver Girl
I think Sheryl Crow is cool,so long as she is a safe distance from Stevie.
I i hear the word "cycles" at any show i attend,I may just flip out.
Stevie,you cannot sing Dreams anymore,so don't try.
If Stevie can sing SAY the way she did on the album, she can sing "Sara" dammit.
The thought of Stevie singing Christine's part of Don't Stop scares the hell outta me.
I don't think i am going to miss Chris until i am at a show,going..where the hell is Songbird...we NEED songbird.
Closing with Goodbye Baby is not cool.At all.Love the song, but it turns me into a puddle. How the hell am i supposed to leave the venue when i am puddle i ask you??
::sighs::: ok that is it for now :)

Wow, I so love this thread. Reminds me of an AA meeting or something.
I like the Dixie Chicks' version of Landslide. Not as good as the original, but it's good.
I can't wait to hear Rhiannon and Dreams in concert. So what if they're not what they used to be, I still like them.
Stevie's lyrics make sense to me. All of them. No, I am not crazy or high right now.
Lindsey is way more self indulgent in his songwriting than Stevie. Just listen to the Tusk album.
Go Your Own Way has never really done that much for me. The guitar solo is not bad, but the lyrics are... meh.
I don't want them to do any Buckingham-Nicks stuff in concert, with the possible exception of Crystal. Stevie just doesn't have the voice for it anymore.
I have not purchased VBOFM and unless I win the lottery or something, I don't plan on purchasing it.
I like Mick. His crazy business tactics aside, he's always fun to watch live, when Lindsey and Stevie look like they're bored to death.
Stevie and Lindsey are not going to get together and they were never meant to be together. Their personalities are incongruous. I'm surprised they've gotten this far without verbal insults, writing nasty songs about each other, physical violence, and breaking up the band... oh, wait...
The loss of Chris on SYW is more of a loss than was Lindsey on Behind the Mask. At least on BTM they got Rick and Billy for Lindsey.
SYW will go platinum and critics will say it was a flop.
SYW will be the last Fleetwood Mac album with Lindsey and Stevie. Fleetwood Mac will cease to be a living entity at the conclusion of this tour.
I like Stevie's current hair. And dress.

Thanks for the tip!
Well, as long as I'm here, I'll spout more unpopular opinions.
I love the FM Live album. My favorite version of Rhiannon is on it, not to mention Fireflies. (Tip to Stevie: Drop the Christine songs that are supposed to be a tribute to her and do Fireflies instead. At least the lyrics fit the idea of a tribute, and people won't be comparing your voice to a voice that sounds NOTHING LIKE YOURS!)
I can see how Lindsey sees this paradox in Stevie's prudishness out of the blue. Around the time she trashed the BN cover in interviews, how she was crying in the pic & she regrets doing it, she does this kitten pose for The FM Greatest Hits album, leaning on a rug in front of a tusk (!) with her breasts prominently squeezed together like they're Lori and Sharon clinging to her for a photo-op. (I forgot to mention this black and white pic in the post above about the evolution of her silicone valley.)
I was just naive enough to hope that the live 1998 Enchanted Gold and Braid would be comparable to the HBO concert special from 1982, dancing and all. (Hey, it's not like she can't high kick anymore, but what WAS I thinking! Even the instruments lacked energy in the '98 version.)
I like BTM, and on Time I like Winds of Change and All over Again, hate Nights in Estoril, and think Hollywood is TOOOOO long.

No - don't get back on topic yet! First explain to me why the song starts off "You are a beautiful child" and ends with "But I'm not a child anymore." What the?! Who is the beautiful child? Who is the beast? lol That just drives me up the wall!

Christine and Stevie always tollerated each other, but are not, and never have been great friends. They're certainly not as close as they want people to think they are.
[....]
[B]Mick and Stevie like to prentend their tryst was more than a drunken, drugged out mistake, but let's get real! Mick has zero sex appeal and other than wanting to be assured of a spot in the band should LB give an ultimatum, does anybody really believe Mick is Stevie's true love? (There goes my breakfast.)
[....]
ITA with all of this. I love Stevie, but I totally don't buy her "it was all about him" line from the BN days. Stevie would NEVER have been content to "stand back" lol and she wanted to make it SO badly. I also agree that an element that made it easier for Stevie to leave Lindsey was that she no longer had her fortunes tied to him as she did when he spearheaded Buckigham Nicks. I think that if "Rhiannon" had flopped then she would have stayed with him, but she just got too full of herself. Now THAT'S an unpopular opinion, and yet I love Stevie! She jsut made some really bad decisions, as you said.

I think "child" in this context is used as a term of endearment... such as Axl Rose singing "Sweet Child O' Mine," or the line, "wake up, my sweet child," that Brett Michaels wrote in "Love's A Hard Game To Play."
It seems Stevie chose the word "child" (as opposed to "Beautiful Darling," or "Beautiful Angel," or whatever else it could have been), because she'll always see the man in question as youthful (and a reminder of that time in her life).
That she later admits she's "not a child anymore," shows that she realizes what they had in their youth is gone now... they're both older, and he has moved on from her.
As I said in the first post, she knows he'll still always be a part of her (first loves usually are), but she realizes that she's now "old enough to love (him) afar."
Anyway, that's my take on it!

Yup, they need to put that cow out to pasture. Don't ya just hate the phony ****? That scripted nicey-nice crap needs to go, but I also don't like how they seem to be avoiding all contact/closeness on the stage now. Chris is gone and it looks odd that LB & SN stick to a certain side of the stage and never leave the mic stand. That crap better be gone on the tour, too. Just move those mics closer together and let's see what comes of it from there. Just keep it real, ok? If LB talks in cycles one more time or gives an unintelligible speech at my show, I'm gonna jump on stage and shove a sock in his mouth.
No cycles, no healing, nothing organic, nothing about survival moves or the need to grow, either! SHUT THE HELL UP ALREADY! Just get up there, look HOT, and try to sing on key a little bit, dude. Stevie needs to shut up, too, and get something new to talk about in interviews besides what a louse LB was when they were together, and about how her songs are always positive while his are destructive toward her. That's self-delusional BS. You are better than that, girlfriend!
3. I think LB and SN are even as far as her working and his not working in the early days -- after all, he insisted that FM take her. So, she needs to stop talking about that.
Right on to that!
4. Stevie and Mick. One word: EW! Yet I think that he's the one that she would say was the one she could have married and lived happily ever after with (well except for the bankruptcy and increased drug use, of course).
For sure, both of them spent a great deal of time with their heads in the clouds and coke spoons up their noses (and elsewhere...hehe...as another post mentions.) Does that make them compatible for marraige? Maybe as rehab roomies or bretheren at a commune, but man and wife? Happily ever after? Then why didn't they do it? What was stopping them after 1987?
5. Don't really like long guitar solos or long drum solos but believe that it's some sort of asserting maleness thing that has to happen. Wish they could coordinate those with costume changes for Stevie, since I hate those too.
Yes to the guitar solos! No to the drum solos. No more talk about asserting maleness either! That's LB's new canned phrase for repeating over and over in interviews. Who's working the strings for that guy? lol! Stevie needs serious wardrobe help. Fashion Emergency!!!!!!!!
6. It takes me a while to get into some of LB's FM material, but I end up liking it more than the SN material that immediately grabbed me. Well, except for I'm So Afraid. I never liked that song.
Great guitar on ISA, how can you not like it? I agree about LB's material taking time to appreciate. OOTC is brilliant and anyone who likes LB the least bit should listen to it and see how great he really is in playing, production, variety of style, vocal overdubs, he's just amazing. His lyrics made sense on most of the songs, too! Stevie's lyric writing was better when she was younger. She made more sense then, mostly in a poetic way. Now when she's out in lala land she wants us to think everything she says is poetry of some kind. Ah yea, right.
7. I don't think I'd like any of them as people if I met them...too self-invoved, except for John who is too beaten down.
Hate to say it, but I agree with you on this. I think I could get along well with all of them, but I'm not sure I'd like to. I think if Stevie were more honest with herself about the past and she didn't always play up the martyr/peacemaker idea of herself, I'd like her better. I'd really like to be her shrink! If she got real with herself I think she'd be awesome. Lindsey is a guy and guys are hopeless anyway. Mick and John often remind me of those bums I try to avoid at the intersections with the "will work for food " signs.
This is a trip! I really liked your post here, anusha! I agree with a lot of your comments as you can see. Somebody stop me!

Even though I like Christine, I'm glad she sat this one out. Her leaving results in a very interesting record.
If Christine does release a solo album, I probably wouldn't buy it.
I don't like "Songbird."
I think Christine's best song is "Over and Over."
I think her worst is "Mystified."
The highlights of Mirage are "Straight Back" and "Oh Diane." LOL
I don't really care that there was a Fleetwood Mac before Stevie and Lindsey. I'm not interested in previous line-ups.
"Murrow" is now my favorite song by Lindsey.
"Bleed to Love Her" and "Steal Your Heart Away" are the weakest and most boring songs on Say You Will. skip
I just do not like the song "Come", though "Red Rover" has grown on me.
I prefer "Beautiful Child" to "Storms."
When I first heard "Crystal", I though it was Christine singing the lead which pissed me off royally when I saw it was written by Stevie. That was when I was first getting into FM, and Lindsey and Christine sounded similar to me.
The only good Lindsey song on Tango In the Night is "Big Love."
"Heart of Stone" is great. (even though the lyrics are a bit trite)
"When I See You Again", "Welcome to the Room Sara", and "The Second Time" are all great songs. :D
I don't care for Mick. They could replace him and I would be fine with it. However, I think John is awesome and can never be replaced.
Lindsey sometimes sounds like Kermit the Frog.
I hate how Lindsey screams and yells when he is on stage. It is very annoying.
"Fireflies" should have replaced "Save Me a Place" on Tusk.
I don't think that Lindsey is necessarily Stevie's best producer. Though he has done excellent work with her songs.
Christine's voice is not particularly great to me. She sounds the same on every single song. I do like her songs though.
I don't like the White Album version of "Landslide." It's just too fast. The Dance version is much better. Same goes for "Silver Springs." The studio version does nothing for me.
I like how Stevie's voice changes from album to album.
"Joan of Arc" should have been on Tango.
I think The Other Side of the Mirror is a great album. "Doing the Best I Can" is excellent.
I don't really care about FM's personal life. All I want to hear is the music.
On one hand, I think it would have been cool if Sheryl Crow had joined FM for this record, on the other I'm glad she didn't.
Hmmm... that's all I can think of for now.

Without the drama, without all the piss and vinegar, where would either of them be today? I always know what Christine is talking about. I don't need to know how she feels or what she says by reading between her lines...lol!I agree with every single bit of your post, Miranda. :) But this was the part that I enjoyed the most, thank you for expressing my thoughts with your words. :)
Song of the moment - Miranda
"Say You Will" has the most potential for being the biggest hit from SYW.
Lindsey's voice is more annoying now than ever.
Lindsey should stick to playing guitar and producing.
I miss Christine more than I thought.
"Peacekeeper" is/will be a forgettable single and shouldn't have been released as the first one.
The Peacekeeper video is pretty lame and Stevie's phony laugh at the end just sucks and I think it's stupid. :D
Mick and John are the best rhythm section in the world.
People still get into "Rhiannon" and "Dreams" at concerts and love that they're still played to the point they sing along to "Dreams"...at least that's what I witnessed at Stevie's TISL show. :)
The sequencing to SYW is wrong...no wonder Stevie was upset.
I ADMIT IT, Stevie needs to do something different with her wardrobe and shake it up a little.
I'm looking forward to Stevie's next solo album.
I'm happy to have SYW and I really do think it's great, but it will never match the songs, chemistry, and cohesiveness found on the White Album and Rumours, at least not for me.
Stevie's voice sounds better now than it has in a long time.

I chose this post as my first in like, 6 years! Nice to be back, but I'm not sure you guys would remember me anyway. Here goes:
I miss the Stevie heart-wrenching-freak-outs with her voice; the REAL wail in edge of 17, the “dream on silly dreamer/try hard you can’t leave her/I have no idea what she’s saying now cause she’s just yelling”, etc in Rhiannon, etc.). Let loose with the emotion, girl! Pure emotion in boots, LOL!
Christine is a class act, looks unreal in the Dance video and I hope she’s happily planting tulips in her garden, while humming “take everything easy; show me a smile”.
Miss seeing FM on MTV (anyone else remember the “Dinner w/FM” contest in the early 80’s?!). Guess you have to have a belly ring, tri-colored hair and be half naked and say “f_--“ a lot to get airplay. Ah, progress.
Love Stevie and Lindsey doing “Nomad” (Candlebright on TISL). Want Buckingham Nicks Two, complete with updated version of same cover. (Pan down a bit, please, Mr. Photographer…..No Kristin you can’t take the pix, LOL!).
Really like SYW! However, anyone else feel that it is not Lindsey and Stevie together?. Almost feels like two solo projects thrown together. Although Lindsey “letting loose” makes up for Stevie being more conservative, vocally.
HATE the way Lindsey gets stuck on ONE FRICKIN NOTE on the guitar. I think I need a padded cell to fight the urge to slap him so he skips, like a vinyl record! It’s like a roller coaster whose drop is too long and all you can think about is that you’re about to hurl.
Love the fact that John McVie has the wackiest sense of humor! I’d love to go have a slice of pizza with him. Anyone want to come? (No, sorry Anne, you can’t).
Love thinking about what Lindsey looks like under the guitar-on-raft picture. (need to pause here, out of reverence and to compose myself to continue with this post!)…………………..
I like that second song, side one on TIME. “Be careful what you’re doing – you’re playing with my heart”. Hate the way I sound trying to hit the high parts when singing in the shower.
WHERE is Peter Frampton in the Red Rocks video? Is it me, or what?
Stevie is a HPOA in that Gypsie video! (Hot Piece of ……well you know!). Why is gypsie spelled like that? I always wanted to know. I like her in the rain. Always picture that she’s thinking of Linds.
I have never confessed that the reason I watched Beverley Hills 90210 is because Luke Perry reminds me of Lindsey. OMG!

In fact, I think one of the newspapers wrote a short followup on the couple that won & even printed a photo of them meeting Fleetwood Mac.
Maybe the couple was from back east -- I can't remember. Maybe it was the Meadowlands show in Jersey.

That's what's missing in a nutshell. Forget all the criticism of lyrics that are trite, she used to take songs like I Need to Know (not the deepest, most personal lyrics) and light them on fire. I loved the version of Tear it Up from the Mask tour, especially her parts.
Remember when you could forgive her voice failing her (Red Rocks Edge of 17, Mirage video of The Chain just before the guitar part) because her heart was so into the performance? Now the vocals are pretty but the drama is sometimes absent. Of course, as I posted earlier, the best is when the vocals and drama are both there, like in Rhiannon of old.

Ok, here goes:
If I hear/see any more about what went on during the making of Rumours- I will scream.
Ditto if one more reviewer mentions that SYW is too long.
It is time for the media to lay off the same old tired stories. Take Dateline a couple weeks ago. I realize that Joe and Mary Schmo who live in Indiana and are only familiar with classical music are probably clueless about FM- HOWEVER- it is possible for the narrator to do a pretty quick wrap-up of the band's history and then get to the important stuff- THEIR CURRENT MUSIC.
I don't get what all the fuss over Landslide is about.
Angel should replace Rhiannon or Dreams.
I am worried about Lindsey's voice.
I'm not into videos- but why was Peacekeeper released as a single I *think* 3/4, and they then waited almost two months for a video?
Don't own any demos.

Okay, here are some of my unpopular Mac opinions...
I Love "Sugar Daddy."
I think "Save Me A Place" and "Walk A Thin Line" are too bland.
"Family Man" is one of my fav songs, if not my fav on TITN.
I like Lindsey's "Here Comes The Sun" interpretation.
I hate Stevie's raspy voice from the mid to late 80s.
I dislike her voice now, in general. I think she is washed up.
I like Lindsey's voice now than when he was singing in the 70s. I liked his voice the best from the L&O & Mirage era.
"Don't Stop" makes me wanna throw up.
Christine looked better during The Dance then she did her whole life.

Dreams is my LEAST favorite Stevie "hit" song with FM, and I hate the way she sings it now.

It really makes me cringe when Lindsey goes off-key in a live performance. He usually doesn't do it for very long, but he does it too often.
Hehe, SaraRhiannon, I can't stand HAEWAFY either. It makes me want to yack.
Lindsey's Tusk songs are my least favorite of any albums he's been on (which doesn't say much because I still like them)
I like Lindsey's eyeshadow phase (I think he could never not be sexy)
I LOVE Lindsey's guitar solos, but they are all too similar. I wish he would vary the melodies in his solos a little more. This is probably why I LOVE Miranda. It's classic Lindsey, but it's totally different.
I hate all of Christine's songs on Mirage except Hold Me.
Oh yeah. And I HAAAATE Songbird.
Stevie's Tango songs have totally grown on me.
I can't listen to the regular white album version of Rhiannon anymore. I HAVE to listen to the Rosebud live version (constantly). I'm spoiled. The song to me is not complete without the last verse.
I hate the way Stevie's solo songs in the 80's were instrumentally dominated by keyboards (except Stand Back and the ones that are actually piano-sounding and not synth, Like If Anyone falls- ICK!). I still love the songs, I just hate most of the keyboard parts.
I'm disturbed by the fact that John still drinks.
I like the Dixie Chicks version of Landslide.
Here's the big one: I like Mick's drum solos.
I feel better now.

- Tango is much more interesting album than Mirage
- Stevie Nicks' contributions to Tango & Mask are down right pathetic.
- SYW is Stevie's best showing since Tusk
- I miss Burnett’s and Vito's Hair
- SYW, does not work as an album, but contains some of the best music of FM's career. SYW, wouldl have been perfect with 6 less songs & 4 McVie tunes added
- Lindsey's material on SYW grows on you tremendously
- Red Rover is my favorite track
- Mask is my least favorite Mac Album, but my favorite album cover
- Tusk stands out as FM's greatest achievement & last time I checked their 2nd or 3rd biggest seller
- Make me a Mask should never have been included on the Boxed Set
- I love all of those cheezy 80's Mac Videos
- Lindsey left the band at a perfect time before nostalgia creeped in

-Mirage is better than Tango (tho i guess this isnt too unpopular anymore.)
-Empire State is one of my favorite songs on Mirage.
-I hate the original I'm So Afraid, but it's great live.
-I don't mind Stand Back being on the new set list.
-Mick's "balls" also disturb me.
-I dont like EFO either.
-I miss the Penguin on all of the albums.
-Stevie's hair was a little too big for my tastes during the OSOTM era.
-I wish they'd do Blue Letter more often.
-Stevie needs to drop Dreams and/or Rhiannon, no matter how popular they are. It's getting repetative, and I guess boring. What ever happened to Sara? SOTM? Crystal? There are many alternatives. After a while she could bring back Dreams and Rhiannon, when everyone starts to miss them again.
There, I got it all off my chest!

I've been having a blast reading all of these, LOL!
Thanks for asking about my re-emergence! I've been away just due to being SWAMPED with home/work/life! Was first on this board in 1997, I think. It was a while ago. Used to post under "x", then someone took that name, so I switched to "first x" (how original). Those were the old boards, too, with the old site address. Gosh it really has been a while!
Seen many incarnations of this site and am really impressed by how it's evolved! Anyway, I've been an obsessed Mac fan since birth and have been lucky enough to meet everyone except Lindsey (still kicking myself for that one!) I just love reading everyones' POVs! Nice to see we all share the same obsession! Hopefully y'all won't mind me chiming in now and then...
Thanks!

Recent posts have inspired this:
I don't get why so many people love Fall from Grace but hate Freedom. Both are fast-paced, angry, non-Lindsey-produced, guitar-driven, sometimes lyrically straightforward & sometimes metaphoric.

--- "The Second Time" is one of Stevie's best songs EVER!!!
--- Most of Lindsey's noodling on Tusk is pretty crappy- "I Know I'm Not Wrong" and "Not That Funny" being the worst
-- Tango in the Night is really not that great of an album
-- "Rhiannon" is a DEAD song that now blows chunks and should never, ever be performed again- unless Stevie decides to take a chance again.
-- "Sara" is the ultimate FM classic, and I can't believe that they're not doing it on this "last" tour. Makes me sick.
I have too many to mention....

They are both overproduced, but I think I Can't Wait is worlds better than Everybody Finds Out.
And one more thing. I'd forgotten my World Turning comment just above this. What a difference a few months can make. I love it on this tour. (Well, the parts where Mick isn't doing the solo, anyway.)

I agree! Partly, though. I love EFO, but ICW has *much* better lyrics.
My new confession:
I hate having to hear *any* Rumours song in concert. I don't want to hear anything from that damn album. Not even Gold Dust Woman or Go Your Own Way. I'd much rather hear new stuff. I think the Rumours songs should be banned from ever being done live again.
And I DESPISE the album version of HAEWAFY. The song can only be done justice in a live setting. :D

Okay, this thread is fun! :-) Here are some of mine:
- I LOVE Silver Girl!
- Tusk is absolutely unlistenable, I only ever play the Stevie songs which I love to death!
- Mick needs to get a new snare drum, his drum sound is crap and dated!
- I hope Lori rejoins Stevie for live stuff now that Mindy is pregnant since I think Mindy's voice is too "sweet"
- But of course Sharon(a) rules!!!
- Stevie sings off key live all the time, but I love her for it!
- Christine? No emotion whatsoever in her face AND her songs! Good riddance!
- With a few exceptions (Beautiful Child, Landslide) Stevie's best songs are on her solo albums!
- With the possible exception of Stevie, FM now are only in it for the money
- FM before BN joined were sooooo boring!
Hmmm, I could on for a bit, but I won't

I hardly know any of the lyrics to I Can't Wait to be able to judge whether it's better than EFO becuase I find I Can't Wait completely unlistenable. It's the biggest piece of dated pop trash, and I think it's a disgrace that Stevie recorded it. It doesn't resemble her style at all. I can't believe that it and Sister Honey made it onto an album. They both make me cringe!

1) I love Paper Doll.
2) I like Mirage quite a bit. (I like Only Over You and Book of Love as well)- I prefer it over Tango
3) I can't stand some the songs on Tusk.
4) I don't like Family Man, but it is endurable.
5) I like Mystery To Me better than Rumours.
6) I miss Christine!:distress:
7) I don't like 80% of Stevie's solo work.
8) I don't really like Say You Will as an album. There are some good spots though.
9) Gypsy WAS good. It's getting old for me.
10) Sometimes I listen to "Thoughts On A Grey Day" for fun...

Here's mine...
I like Mirage better than Tango
I like Christine the most vocally out of all of them
I think that Mystery to Me and The White album better than Rumours
I CAN NOT stand Running Thru the Garden
I don't like Enchanted (the song)
I am not a Buckingham Nicks romantic
Alot of Lindsey's songs on TUSK make me cringe
I think Lindsey sounded like a girl on the White album's version of ISA
I extremely dislike Never Going Back Again
I looove Wish You Were Here
I also looove Say Goodbye
I think Stevie would be able to hit some of those notes on the tour
I like the original version of Silver Springs ore than the 97 one. The 97 one gets a little boring
I LOVE Sugar Daddy!
SYW is in my oppinion Lindsey's album he was strongest on.

John on the subject:"It got ugly.... physically ugly. And I said:"Lindsey, why don't you just leave?". And he did but what I meant was:"Why don't you just leave the room?" Hahahaha".

Okay.......
1) Ever since Tusk, I basically can't stand Christine McVie (especially on Tango in the Night).
2) Tango in the Night is the WORST B/N era FM album ever!! BLLEEEECCCHHH!!!!
3) Mick Fleetwood's live-on-stage drama queen antics really bug me- "World Turning" is always my chance to use the restroom. Crazy eyes and foaming at the mouth I can definitely do without...
4) In general, all of Lindsey's material produced during the 80's is really, really, bad- whereas Out of the Cradle was pure genius, with every track being a keeper.
5) The Say You Will tour is just one, big, long jukebox that never changes. You only need to see it once, cuz it's EXACTLY the same everytime (the blocking, the hand gestures, the "play Lindsey's guitar", the Mick speech at the end, the talking intros to most of the songs, Brent Tuggle doing the "elbow thing" on the piano during "Don't Stop"- and on, and on, and onnnnnnn).
6) I absolutely LOVE "The Second Time".
7) The Other Side of the Mirror is Stevie's best solo album.
8) Behind the Mask is waayyyyyy underrated.
9) I generally skip all of Lindsey's tracks on Say You Will, even though I really like "Miranda", "Say Goodbye", and, especially, "Steal Your Heart Away". Which leads to-
10) "Murrow", "Red Rover" and "Come" are really, really awful...
11) I used to not like "Illume", but I think it rocks now.
12) I'm sick of going to FM live shows and hearing the same old crap. Ditch "Rhiannon", "Dreams", "Go Your Own Way", etc. for some fresh material.
13) I wish that Stevie would sing her songs as written or not sing them at all- i.e. "Rhiannon" and, especially, the Say You Will tour version of "Gypsy". What the hell was that with no high note on the "Enough to loovvvvveeeeeee"??? So glaringly, obviously, missing! I was shocked.
I could go on for hours.......

I don't agree with the Say You Will Tour jukebox comment. They kick ass this time around, and I'd go see them every night if I could. I know you all care - especially since my opinion is different from yours.
Tango in the Night is the worst LB/SN era FM album. Mirage is ALWAYS better than Tango.
Behind the Mask sucks- and not because Lindsey isn't on it. The songs suck.
Time, while continuing the suck trend, sucks less than BTM.
The White Album is better than Rumours. Mystery to Me is, sometimes, better than the White Album. Mystery to Me is always better than Tango.
Bob Welch's Fleetwood Mac is AS GOOD AS- sometimes better than- Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac.
Sara is not a very good awesome ohmygod-worship-sara song. I'm glad they don't do it live, otherwise I might fall asleep. The music is boring. I don't care about the emotion. I also feel like half of the reason so many people like it is ONLY because of the mystery behind it and Stevie's not singing it. And, I also feel like they don't know that is the reason they like that song so much.
Chris' Tusk songs are better than Lindsey's.
Brown Eyes might just be the perfect song.
Empire State is a good song. As is Love in Store, Murrow, Red Rover, That's Alright, Welcome to the Room..Sara, and Seven Wonders.
Sugar Daddy is AWESOME as is Oh Daddy. I will never understand why people don't care about these songs.
Rhiannon kicked ass as an exorcism, and it has evolved into a more sophisticated version that CONTINUES to kick ass. I hope it is never dropped. I would be extremely sad to see it disappear.
I'm glad I Don't Want to Know replaced Silver Springs on Rumours. On the flipside, I'm glad Silver Springs was on the Dance. I love Silver Springs- and the Dance version does it more justice (in retrospect) than the Rumours version did, despite the beautiful way it was recorded.
Silver Springs also sounds better in Stevie's lower register.
The best part of the Little Lies video is John pretending to play an acoustic bass, not Lindsey's messed up chicken-walk.
It took me a long time to like Gypsy- because of the goatiness factor in Stevie's voice. Lindsey's ending guitar solo is the best part of the song.
Hold Me is better than Gypsy. Both in song and video.
My Little Demon blows, but I'm glad it's on The Dance purely for the fact that whoever did the "Dancing Alone" business included it and I'm able to hear Stevie and Chris' parts- and they kick ass.
Temporary One is one of Chris' best songs. Sweet Girl should be included live. It has potential to be a Mac classic.
I MISS CHRISTINE. Say You Will would have been better, IMO, WITH Ms. McVie.
Bleed to Love her on the Dance is better than BTLH on SYW. Lindsey's noodling is annoying.
Steal Your Heart Away sounds complete, and I think it's because you can hear Chris.
Peacekeeper is a good song. SMILE AT YOU is a GREAT song. Illume is a SUCKY song.
Thrown Down is better than Destiny Rules.
Murrow, Red Rover, and Say Goodbye are fantastic songs. Come is not that special on the record. Come is best live.
I don't care about Stevie's solo career. I have the stuff, and it's too 80s for me. I do, however, really like most of the Bella Donna album. But not Highway Man. I'm glad she released Enchanted so that I can have the select Stevie solo songs I like all in one place, but I never listen to it, nor do I listen to any of her other cds- except Bella Donna when I remember that I've forgotten it.
I like the Christine McVie album. A lot.
I like Lindsey's solo albums- and I'm glad they didn't get huge. I like the "little secret" feeling.
I like Mick. I didn't fall for the fanclub business. I don't blame Mick for the fiasco. Don't bother trying to convince me otherwise. He may have hired the man, and he may have found out about the stuff.. but I'd be willing to bet JT has a contract. The members of Fleetwood Mac don't even TYPE when they participate in online chats. What the hell makes you think they have anything
to do with the inner workings- REGARDLESS of whether they manage themselves through "Seedy Management" or not.
John McVie is the most entertaining member of Fleetwood Mac. His answers to questions are always a thousand times better than everyone else's. He's not self-righteous, and he is very witty. He may have only co-written on a few songs, but Fleetwood Mac would be nearly nothing without him.
I shudder to think what nearly ALL of Fleetwood Mac's songs would sound like without John on bass.
I'm sure I could think of more.. but I'm sure people only skim these answers to see what they can pick apart. Here are some nails and some boards: hang me up.

I can't stand Red Rover. It's simply the product of a studio hermit's constant tinkering and over-production. The lyrics are just a jumble of words that don't really convey the message that it's meant to. The vocals stink, especially the "Red rover, red rover, red rover....we have come, we have come..." Blech. I personally think that it's just so out there that some people go out of their way to say it's a masterpiece even though they know it's sh*t. It's anything but to these ears; it makes them bleed, for cripes sake. And to think that Down On Rodeo was left off in favor of this garbage...It's clunky, junky, over-produced, studio trash that masquerades as something arty and important, when in all actuality, it's just self-indulgent crap that the majority of people wouldn't want to hear. It's just not *enjoyable* to listen to and I can't find even *ONE* redeeming quality in it.

- Jake
I love Mirage over Tango as it was the first album I bought of theirs back in late 82
I love Lindsey and almost everything he does but RED ROVER SUCKS IMO
Fall From Grace is not a fave of mine as I was not impressed when I saw it done on the Blockbuster Awards
Christine definitely has a great body of work and I am definitely fond of the pre Buck Nicks stuff and the later stuff, As Long As You Follow and her songs on BTM, the two new songs on the box set and Time were some of her best! I do loathe Save Me as it was very repetitive and the video was not that great
Mick is not the greatest drummer or business person IMO
I love lots of Christine, Stevie and Lindsey songs but there are some I do skip when I listen to a disc....I tend to go over the overly popular ones, the radio oriented ones and the ones that have very repetitive lyrics or music to them. Gasp!
Stevie does look good in the Seven Wonders video as does Lindsey and Christine and the Little Lies video had some great shots of Lindsey and Christine. I hated the Big Love video as they all look horrid in it and the love interest for Lindsey looks rather man-like IMO.
Hold Me is an awesome video and should have won an award like the Gypsy video did. My problem with the Gypsy video...not enough Lindsey and Stevie and way too many extras given camera time
The remarketing of Mac stuff that holds nothing new for us. Where is the rare stuff and the stuff we really want...The Mirage DVD, a video compilation, a Say You Will official concert DVD.
Lindsey at his most hunkiest was Mirage. At his worst, the Frankenstein eyeliner days of Insane.

1.
I think Little Lies stinks bigtime. irritating pop for ironing housewifes.
2.
Mirage is ten times better than Tango (exept for big love and the titletrack.) I love Empire State. I hate Familyman. Straight Back and Gypsy are easily in another league then Stevies Tango-songs.
And, Tango in the night simply lacks a classic like Eyes of the world.
3.
Tusk is the best album ever recorded by anyone.
4.
I think red rover should be the new single in Europe. Opens eyes.
5.
Down on Rodeo makes me feel ill. (The song, not the Ledgie). I simply hate it. It's the only one I skip from GOS. BLEEEEEHHHHH.

Say you will can't be put together in a good order. It was supposed to be a two disc-set, they had to abort 5 (!) songs,
so lindsey's vision blew up. It is simply incomplete. And so, read my lips: SYW is not too long: IT IS AT LEAST 20 MINUTES TOO SHORT!!!
And that is a pity, becauseof that Tusk stays there...lonely at the top.
6B.
And I think that one may disagree, BUT NEVER mess with the vision of a genius.

I don't just love the Rock a Little album, I love the song I Can't Wait. But I hate the extended version (like on the boxed set). Also, I hate the extended version of Seven Wonders.
And Gerald, never mess with the genius of a vision.
I have no idea what this means, but I can be profound, too, see?

You CAN be in love with TWO people...I said somewhere today that I didn't believe we all have ONE person in the universe made just for us...that's absurd. You can fall in love more than ONCE and I believe that's what happened with Lindsey....he fell in love with Stevie...they couldn't work it out.....now, he's in love with Kristen. I believe him when he says "she's the love of my life." when he talks about Kristen. I ALSO believe that Stevie is his musical soulmate...and a GREAT love of his life. She is most certainly in his soul. I just don't understand the "hatred" towards Kristen, nobody here knows her personally, right?
Anyways...moving on....Red Rover, IMO IS a masterpiece. I love the guitar parts...and there are certain notes he plays that touch my soul. The lyrics are magnificent...because in *my* interp, I feel as though he's telling his mother it's okay for her to grieve for his father...and I attribute the song to the passing of my grandfather...one of the most difficult times in my life. :( We ALL are touched by different songs, and to say RR is garbage is your opinion and you are entitled to that, but to ME, it is a rare gem of a song...one that I will forever love.
One man's trash is another man's treasure...applies to music too.

Despite the fact that some may take it to an extreme, i don't think anyone hates Kristen. I think they may dislike her for being in the postion she is in while others dislike her for her general attitude towards people that are paying damn good money to see her husband perform. Five seconds of his time to his fans as he waves while he gets into his limo isn't going to hurt. IMO, most people don't find their soulmate. They settle. That's why so many marriages end in divorce. People don't like the idea of dying alone. They want companionship. I don't think Kristen is Lindsey's soulmate. I think she's his companion. I believe I quote Lindsey on his relationship with his wife when I say that he finally found someone he could "get along with."
I too love Red Rover.
I love the song Come. I hate that people can't see beyond the sexual nature of the lyrics. "Said I was gonna put God away...she's been here a while...living in the guest room..I guess she goes in style..." I mean, who writes like that?? I love those lyrics. Lindsey Buckingham---thinking man's guitarist. I suppose a lot of people don't think (like ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE).
I hate that people can't get over the whole Stevie weight issue. It's so old. She's 55. I'd like to see how ya'll look at 55!! Sheebus.

HaHAhA!!!
I meant Lindsey's vision, my dear friend. His vision on SYW was rudely disturbed by Warner Brothers. Unforgivable.
But, I'm sure, all teachers can be profound.....;)

Yeah, I realized you meant Lindsey.
And BTW, profoundness can be a teacher.

Marissa. Everything you said before that? WOOT. No need to rehash. As far as "Come" goes, I don't think the lyrics are that dirty. Okay, well they are, but come on. There are a LOT more sexual songs out there that aren't written as well. "Said I was gunna put God away but I just can't let her go...." and "One thing leads to another... but I guess you know about that" see those are like not overtly sexual but he manages to make them romantic and conspiratorial and sneaky. It's hot, IMO. This is a song that I've appreciated a lot more since I saw the live version. And I get to see it twice more next week.

Refer to my rant on the SN board about this. Age ain't nothing but a number baby ;)

* The Mirage concert rocks!!!
* Stevie looked awesome in that concert
* Oh Diane and That's alright are great songs
* I enjoyed Mick's drum solo in the SYW tour
* Running through the garden is a very catchy song
* Never say goodbye almost makes me cry!
* Concert version of Silver Springs is the best
* Who cares about Stevie's weight, she's still very pretty
* Lindsey, keep those shirts open cuz you still look great!
* Come, Red Rover are my least favorite on SYW
* I miss Christine, but at the same time I don't
* Say you will is a little too repetitive to me
* The Mirage concert better get released on DVD someday!!!!
* Don't stop is a song I skip all the time
* Mirage is a fun pop album
* Sara is a beautiful song

Warm Ways makes me feel like I'm waiting in the orthodontist's chair again. ("Could we change the station please?")
I can enjoy the mellowness of Albatross, Sara, Storms, and Brown Eyes, but this one is a yawner, IMO.

On your media player, are there little arrows at the bottom on each side? I was at Office Depot a couple of weeks ago and they were doing this with a different song. I think the salesperson doubleclicked on the arrows and it sped up the tempo of the songs. Let me know how it works.:)

eh. I read on a site that it's only the WM9 optimizied for XP, and I have ME. :distress:
but............
I went on Download.com and found a shareware program called <b>Slow Speed CD Transcriber</b> that lets you mess with the tempo without chipmunking (although you can alter pitch too!).
Thanks for your help! :]

that depends. the trial version only reads the 2nd and 3rd song from each CD, which can be worked around. But it exports in .WAV format. Can your e-mail provider handle 30-40 mb?
