NEWS - Fleetwood Mac's Buckingham Prefers 'Say You Will' To 'The Dance'
04/24/2003
(4/24/03, 7 a.m. ET) -- Although the new Fleetwood Mac album Say You Will is being ballyhooed as guitarist Lindsey Buckingham's first studio outing with the band since the 1987 album Tango In The Night, he's actually been back with the band since 1997. That was the year that Fleetwood Mac regrouped for The Dance, an MTV special that turned into a live album and reunion tour.
Buckingham said he enjoyed making Say You Will, a set of all-new material, more than doing The Dance. "Really, The Dance was just a money-making venture," Buckingham said. "It was a good live album, and it maybe was the catalyst on an emotional level for all of this. But it was just the restatement of a body of work. So I was, you know, it wasn't my ideal thing."
Say You Will features four-fifths of Fleetwood Mac's most successful lineup--Buckingham, singer Stevie Nicks, drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie. Singer-keyboardist Christine McVie left the group after The Dance tour.
A studio recording of one song from The Dance, "Bleed To Love Her," is featured on Say You Will.
Fleetwood Mac kicks off a tour in support of the new album on May 7 in Columbus, Ohio.

And there you have it!!!
At the time, Lindsey and everybody else said they weren't doing it for the money.
Five years from now, Lindsey will finally admit he ditched his solo projects to rejoin Fleetwood Mac for the money!!!
Aahh.... that felt good.
Thanks, Joe68, for posting that.

I totally agree! Of course, it's for the money! :]

Well when you get right down to it, few people ever do anything for free and in fact and barring criminal acts, they mostly do it for money. So, I do not blame him one bit.
Also, I think that while they do like performing live, they are also doing that for the money. Oh the cynical world!!!! ;)

I'm disappointed in Lindsey. I think this is just him, once again, trying to "prove" he's not part of the "industry." What happened to "You can't plant no seed if there's only greed"? What happened to "The Eagles do it for money, but we're doing it for closure?"
Has LB just been feeding us a load of crap? I would like to think he's above that.

Of course they were in it for the money. Especially Stevie & Mick ~ having done away with most their $ using illicit substances (to a large degree). Funny Lindsey'd admit it though.

the main reason most people are in the music business is for the money so I don't know why anyone would be suprised like this. This IS how FM makes a living you know. It's their jobs, their business so to speak.

I'm coming out of my perpetual shadows (I'm a hell of a lurker!) and go on record as saying he HAD to be misquoted.
It sounds as if he was actually talking about the album, i.e. finished product. I have no doubt they did it, ultimately, for the enjoyment and because Mick/Lindsey both wanted to. You can't look at LB's face when Tusk is over and tell me he wasn't doing it for enjoyment/fulfillment/etc.
Sounds to me like he was talking about the album. Also it sounds like he could have been talking about it not being all-new material, so by that logic, it became a money making venture. I'm sure they all knew money was going to be made, too. It's human nature.
I just think he was misquoted, that's all.
Back to the shadows! :wavey:

Stevie with her writer's royalties has never been remotely close to broke.
Did you guys see where someone hacked their way into Madonna's web site and posted all of the tracks from her new Cd for download? I got one of the "what the f**k do you think you're doing" files on winmx and I think this is hilarious! The person who posted them said "This is what the f**k I think I'm doing." I like Madonna but talk about in it for the money! She's also spouting about how material things don't buy happiness. Well yeah, now that you've got them all...

I don't get all the bru-haha.
Rollo says he was misquoted - I'd just put it down to plain old 'out of context' editing. Pretty straight forward.
It doesn't say "Yeah I did The Dance for the money." We know Lindsey wouldnt've joined up with FM for the money. He just seems to be saying that we (ie primarily Mick) did it for the money, and for the closure for Christine, and to get Lindsey & Stevie working together again to see how it goes....
He obviously meant it as a lot of things, and the money was only one of them, and not about him in particular.
