I am really tired of people bashing this song... this is one of the highlights of the cd... every bit as entrancing as " mystified" was on Tango .. and " over and over" on Tusk...
I really love it....great production and so soothing to listen to..
I also love " Not make Beleive" .. especially lindsey's subtle guitar work on it... pure magic...
no matter how you slice it .. this album is a triumph ... a victory for FM as a whole..... a definite victory for stevie and lindsey's relationship..... superb musicianship... and very innovative production.....its like this is what FM would have sounded like if the whole band lived with lindsey in his basement :)
I never thought I'd ever hear Stevie's voice sound this strong and passionate again.... what a great victory for her.... to defeat the deamons of addiction and botched relationships and other pitfalls .....and still come out sounding like the beautiful angel she was when she joined FM...
I hope this isnt the last album from them... love to hear more of this saga :)

Well the band put the song on the album for a reason. I guess they liked it. :)

I enjoy the song too. It has a different sound than anything else on the record. And like you say it does have that soothing appeal to it. Actually I like to listen to it just for Stevie's vocal and the melody. There are other tracks on the cd that I listen to less, for sure. So I'm with you rhianntp.

See I don't like Mystified either. Silver Girl is the song I skip usually, I just don't like it. I guess if I didn't know what it was about Id be ok with it.

But the line " she has a million bucks and she looks like it"...just don't sit well with me.

Im not bashing it, but if I HAD to choose my least favorite song on the album, this would be it probably.

I don't think it's an awful song, but I think it stands out on the album as one of its weaker tracks. I think it could have been better, and that's what turns me off about it.

I like it and the way it's written. When I listen to it, it seems to me that Stevie was trying to paint a vivid picture of this human character. She explains how the "silver girl" is a wild one, a girl who has made good things happen for herself in such a hard world, how she is much wiser than her years let on, how she is very guarded and doesn't trust people easily, how she wishes she had been born earlier in life, and how with all the things she has (a million bucks and good looks), she still wants things from life that will make her happy; the money and how she looks are just superficial things to her.

That's what I took away from the song! :)

Now..."Not Make Believe" is just awful. How bad are the lyrics? So cliched and unimaginative and uncreative. It's just bad. "It hurts my self-esteem/It hurts my everything." Blech. It's just terrible and a shame that it was even released without being tweaked with a LOT more. I think it stands as one of the worst FM songs committed to record.

I like it, but my one criticism is the '90s production sound. I imagine the demo with just piano or guitar is simpler and better (don't hit me). I'm surprised that some posters said they think it needs a bigger production.

I like this song. Better than "Destiny Rules" and "Illume."

I honestly don't have a lot to add to the content of this thread but I know that some people don't like this song because Stevie has said that she wrote it about Sheryl Crow. I think that tidbit should be overlooked and think of Stevie and her life while listening to it. It is about her basically. I like the song a lot, I love her voice and the sound of it of the production. I like how it wasn't overdone IMO.

I really like this song. It goes with the introspective mood I am in right now. I like the production and everything.
If there was a weak Stevie track, I would have to go with 'Say You Will.' It is just not as powerful as the other songs. It's a good song, but it doesn't make me THINK like the other songs do...

This song ain't great..... I would have rather heard "The Dealer".........

It seems like SYW was willing to pull old stuff back from the graveyard......

  Sorry, but that came off to me as hilarious!!!

Silver Hurl is definitely growing on me, but I thoroughly disagree with dissention! Not Make Believe is one of my favourite FM tracks EVER. I can't find fault with it except for 'It was the best of times..' (plus I always think of Mr Burns ... "It was the best times, it was the BLURST of times?? You stupid monkey!")

But I mean, maybe NMB makes more sense to me than a song about a Stevie/Sheryl Silver Girl figure caught in a man's hi-tech world and you can see her soul is she lets you see her soul if she lets you see her soul.

Sooo.... should I keep my nickname??? I chose it before ever hearing it or knowing if I liked it of course ... just liked the sound of the title!....... I think just the over all 'rockin'ness' of the album leaves me a little 'unprepared' for the drastic slowdown, but I do like the lyrics, and agree with dissention above ^ i DO relate to it, and parts of it do remind me of 'hard times' of my own: 'papers she never signed' remind ME of my bankruptcy, house foreclosure etc., last year (:distress: depressing!)
but anyway it HAS grown on me...... and changing the sequence does make all the difference!

btw~this is not sheryl crow :p

Darlin', that song makes When I See You Again look like FMs crowning achievement. ;) LOL

It isn't just the abhorrable lyrics, it's the way that it's produced and the music and everything. It's so blah to my ears. I just can't stand it, and I LOVE Stevie to death! But, I'm glad you enjoy it! :)

I just don't like the song and it has nothing to do with my general dislike for Sheryl Crow. I read the lyrics on someones website before the album came out and I was like, "WOW THIS IS GREAT!" And then I heard it...and I was not impressed. I just feel that musically, they could have done so much more with this song. A good song would be a good song regardless of who it was written about. This, IMO, is not a good song. Lyrically, it kicks ass but other than that...

Basically, I think our problem with the song is that it's not "Fleetwood Mac"...it's "Stevie Nicks" set to some crappy melody. Had she done this on her own solo album, I probably would have liked it. But I don't like what Fleetwood Mac did to it.

"Which lever do I pull to be crushed by a safe?"~me at the concert if they play this song. I can think of MANY MORE SONGS I would rather hear than this. I hope they don't play it.

LOL No ****. This will be the "pee break song" at the concert if they do it. The lyrics are just fine.. very Stevie.. but the music.. omg. It's so.. tired. It's like it rocks back and forth, back and forth in the same directions, nothing special at all.

I love that that dude called it Silver Hurl. lol.

Pee break song?!?! This mofo drags out for lightyears...it's like the explosive diarreah break song. You could go back to that bathroom ten freakin' times and the song probably still wouldn't be over. LOL. Silver Hurl...word up to whoever said that...lol
